but more than that, I think it's the Android hefting onlookers that Tim is really targeting. The potential "switchers."

Specifically, they're the ones who have been watching Apple's keynotes with growing interest, but for whatever reason haven't yet bought their first bit of Apple kit. Perhaps we could characterize them as still kind'a hovering just outside of the "Reality Distortion Field" just waiting for Apple to announce that one feature that finally convinces them to take the plunge. And they might finally get their killer feature... but if anything else in the presentation doesn't quite sound up-to-par, maybe they'll walk instead of being sucked in.

So yeah: Tim's role in those presentations is to make it all sound amazing... even when the reality is, the majority of the presentation is about small, incremental changes.

Also, as an aside: yes, you actually can paint Jobs with much the same brush. In truth, he's the one who was originally credited with an unparalleled ability to create the RDF... Tim is great at a lot of things -- but really, at this, he's only an adequate imitator following in Steve's very large footsteps. Sometime when you have a few minutes, go watch the original iPhone announcement... and maybe it's just me being nostalgic, but I would encourage you to actually watch the entire thing. There has never been a better showman than Steve when he was in his element.
This is very interesting for me, because I’m one of those Android switchers 😅 I’ve been following Apple’s stuff for a while until I finally switched this year. I currently own an iPhone 14 Pro Max and a MacBook. I’m planning to get even more Apple products in the future too as I’m really enjoying the ecosystem experience so far !

Though I do have to say, it all started with me reading about Steve Jobs out of curiosity. I even watched some of the old Apple keynotes with him, including the introduction of the first iPhone. It was amazing. There’s just something about Steve’s on-stage charisma and the way he introduces the new features/products that made his keynotes seem very interesting and fun to watch. He always seemed very excited to introduce the new products/features that he even did the live demo himself most of the time. I’d say this is what kind of got me into Apple in the first place and made me consider actually trying an Apple product.. yep, it was Steve’s keynotes !

Tim Cook is still a great CEO imo, but I feel like he kind of lacks that on-stage charismatic personality that Steve had. The current Apple keynotes seem to be taking a more professional style (pre-recorded & edited instead of live) which I honestly kind of prefer right now as it seems more brief, and all the important information are presented in a clear way which is easier to understand. But they still lack some of the humor and the fun vibes of the good old live keynotes (especially the ones with Steve Jobs). Though I guess the current style must be better for them as they don’t seem to have anyone as good as Steve Jobs on-stage anymore.

Yes, I plan to upgrade. I have had the iPhone 12 Pro for 3 years and I am ready for an upgrade to the 15 Pro.

Specifically looking forward to:
1) Better battery life
2) Better camera (3x zoom will be nice)
3) Rounded edges so more comfortable to hold (preferred the iPhone 11 Pro design to 12-14 series)
4) Dynamic island will be fun to use
5) 120Hz screen plus brighter outdoors

If I may ask, which android device did you switch from and how are you liking the switch to the iPhone?

I had the galaxy s3 in the past and then switched to the iPhone for a couple years and then back to the galaxy s8 for only 6 months until I reallllly regretted that decision and traded it in for the iPhone and have stuck with iPhone since. For me, I feel like I never utilized the android devices to their full potential. I rarely customized besides just rearranging things on my home screen. I think I've just always liked the simplicity and the look and feel of iOS. It just seemed more polished and the attention to detail was much greater in iOS than android. They are excellent devices and have some really cool and unique features, don't get me wrong, but I think they're just not for me.

I need something new as the trusty SE2020 is on it's last legs - battery health is down to 77%.

Probably go vanilla 15.

I briefly looked at Android but it's still the same fragmented mess with no platform longevity and an empty app store as it was when I was last there around iPhone 6 era.

It woudl be nice to have a 3rd option again! inb4 graphene, lineage yadda yadda - these arent real options.

I wasn’t going to upgrade as I only got my 14 Pro Max in January but the wife’s expressed an interest in getting a phone with a bigger screen. She’s having to use her 13 more for work emails etc and is struggling with the smaller screen. She’s not too fussed about the latest tech so I’m considering passing on my 14PM to her and trading her 13 in against at 15PM or whatever they call it. My 14PM is in perfect condition, 100% battery too so she’ll be getting a nice phone still.

I used lots of Samsung phones in the past, but the last one I owned before switching to iPhone was a Galaxy Note 20 (not the Ultra). It was okay for my usage but not that great as it was lacking some features. The screen refresh rate was only 60hz and the battery life wasn’t that good.
Then I got my first iPhone about 2 months which was a 14 Pro Max. I did own a MacBook already (got it earlier this year) so it wasn’t really my first experience with the Apple ecosystem and I already had an Apple ID.
There are lots of things I really liked about iOS. The quality of the apps in general is notably better than Android. Coming from 60hz to 120hz too, the software experience is notably smoother and more seamless. It feels way nicer to look at.
I don’t really care much about iMessage and FaceTime because they’re not that common in my country and no one uses them (even those who own iPhones), so those don’t really matter that much to me.
Though I do have to say the experience in general wasn’t really that different. Yes, I was confused about some stuff in the UI at first (such as the control center and the notification bar not being in the same place, unlike Android) but I got used to it pretty quickly.
The continuity features between the iPhone and the Mac are really nice too. Being able to copy & paste between devices with the same Apple ID, backup files with iCloud, AirDrop, have the same Safari tabs and bookmarks on both devices, etc. Yeah it’s all very seamless, and it feels like both devices just work together ! This is one of the things I was definitely missing with Android/Windows.

There’s not so much that I miss from Android to be honest, as I also rarely used all the customization features available there, but I do miss being able to organize my apps and put them anywhere on the screen.. yeah, I don’t really understand why you can’t do that on iOS (even though you can do it on macOS). I also really miss having a clipboard in the keyboard as I used this feature a lot. But otherwise, I don’t really miss lots of things from Android.
And yeah I do get that it’s a personal preference. Some people prefer Android and some others prefer iOS which is totally fine. I have never used iPhones or any Apple devices until this year, so this is like my first time ever. Even though it has only been a few months, I feel like I’m starting to prefer the overall look and simplicity of iOS/macOS over Android/Windows. I don’t really see myself going back to Android/Windows any sooner.

It'll be perfect. That way, both of you will get the best of both worlds!

The only difference is that you'll have a USB-C charging port with the 15 Pro Max or Ultra while your wife will still have Lightning.

I’ve 86% but is 84% so bad?
I changed my 11 Pro's battery last year in November, it was terrible. Then the new battery went bad (it expanded and pushed out the screen) so I changed it again in February.

Now it's at 96% health but I end up often under 20% charge in the evening, sometimes under 10%. When freshly replaced it was around 30-35% charge in the evening, so it feels more degraded than the health meter would suggest.

Am I unlucky or are the new batteries really bad? I see on the forum people with iPhone 14s with not so great batteries, while here I personally know people with ancient iPhones and original batteries that hold up better.

Have the 14 pro and still debating. I don’t need to, but I tend to every year.
A few months ago, I was 100% not going to upgrade, but last month I made the decision to trade my 14PM or sale it on Declutter to offset the cost some. I tried moving to a every year upgrade, but it’s hard to not upgrade yearly now.

I live in Florida and travel a great deal. Go to Disney many times a year and using an extra battery pac is a pain. Phone is 3 years old and I am not waiting for problems to occur.

Apple says my iPhone 12 Pro Max battery health is %96 sooo… are they gaslighting me to believe my battery capacity hasn’t degraded noticeably over the last 3 years?

I might upgrade to 15 Pro Max if the battery life and cameras are significantly improved.

Yes, due to my finance structure, Trading in the first month of new iphone returns enough so either I go pro Max and my payments go down or I get the 15 Pro with no payments. Tough call actually. If the Max has something over the standard Pro, I will go in that direction. But if nothing is different I might go with the standard Pro.

Yes definitely. Got a launch day gold 64Gb XS max which has lasted me a while and did a good job.

But now it has a completely smashed back, battery health only shows a - , which basically means it can’t even give me an estimate anymore. Last % I saw was at 50. It lasts me around 1-2h of full on usage. Camera is also just not good enough anymore and the 64GB (even with 2TB iCloud) just doesn’t cut it anymore.

Will go for the 15 Pro Max in Space black with 128/256GB, whatever the entry level storage is. That will be more than enough for me and the phone should then last me at least another 4-5 years.

Rather spend big once and get the best and biggest iPhone at the time so it lasts me long enough.

Once you’re in the ecosystem, it’s hard to go back to anything else. I went to a high end gaming PC for a while and doing anything that wasn’t gaming made me want to gouge out my eyes. So now I stick with everything Apple and just game on my PS5 and Switch and life is much less stressful.

Ordering a 15PM and 15P. Hoping and praying one of them works with my stupid sensitive eyes. If all new models are eSIM only in the UK then I’m oot (and will be exploring Android land). My iPhone 11 is fine but I want a flagship phone.

At iPhone 14 launch, 13 Pro Max trade-in value was $720. No one really knows though. Could be less, could be more. I think trade in values were better for the 12 series at the 13 series launch than the 13 series was at 14 series launch.

This is correct. At 13 launch, 12 PM was fetching $790

Source: https://www.itechpost.com/articles/...13-trade-deals-complete-list-prices-apple.htm

I suspect it will be between $700 and $720 for 14 Pro Max.
