I will be paying attention to the Apple event this week and of course, monitor Apple's trade-in value offered for the 14 pro max. If the 15 Pro Max REALLY impresses me or if Apple has surprise features that the rumor mill hasn't leaked yet then I MIGHT bite the bullet but that would mean no iPhone 16 or 17 for me. I know I am in the minority, but the 14 Pro Max has been great for me in the year that I have had it. I upgraded from an 11 Pro Max last year, so it was much more of an upgrade for me.

I am also opting into 15pm and skipping 16. Maybe 17.
If you are into cars, then this feels like v6 accord or highlander - i might not want the newest 4 cylinder hybrid.
This 15 sounds like going to be a great phone just like 13PM or any 13 because it is the final perfect shape of this square body. What if they come up with soapbox design next year? I love buying things last model year or 2 years before upgrade.

I’ll be moving from the 14 pro max to the 15 pro max. I am interested in the phone moving to a 3 nm chip with a bigger battery which is going to be very efficient. I want the updated Qualcomm modem to have the best And most current connectivity. Titanium rounded edges, USB-C, and periscope lens for the camera are all good updates. My 14 pro max became less efficient as time went by so I expect this year to be even better than the 13 pro max in battery.

Question about trade in, i just replaced front screen on 14 pro max, all diagnostic checked good and no water damage, but I have two nicks on the corners of the side body, does anyone have experience with how much they drop the trade in value? If its $720 would i still get a decent amount? I see the same phone with cracks on lens and back going for $600-$700 on ebay? Thank you

You and I have the same priorities in an iPhone it seems! Battery life is huge to me, I’m excited for the 3nm chip, and I value the best connectivity too. I’m nervous about the battery life as the only credible leak about battery life has come from Mark German who said there would be improvements from the 3nm chip. I don’t trust that leak about larger battery sizes because the person who leaked it said right after the leak to take it with a grain of salt. But people keep seeming to forget that the leaker said this and trust that the batteries will have larger capacity. I hope they’re right.

I’m almost positive that if it’s just some nicks, you’ll get the full price trade-in. Apple’s trade-in policy is very liberal when it comes to condition. You pretty much get full value as long as the device turns on and works properly and doesn’t have a cracked screen/camera lens.

Same here! Think we are fairly many actually, just not on MR. 😬

Glad to hear lol. It's largely been doom and gloom on MR when it comes to the 14 pro. First the people with 13 pro max were angry that the 14 wasn't a big enough upgrade for them, and now the battery health is and some are not pleased with the camera.

When it comes to hold or buy, we inevitably speculate. Every single time I see stories about 'the next one will be a real biggie'. The next one comes along, and... incremental.

Each of us makes a decision based on what we believe, our finances, and our purchase path. If you hold for the next one, I truly hope it turns out to be a 'real biggie'. I held out last year simply because my mobile plan is every two years. I'm looking forward to a new gizmo.

Another 2 cents from my side is that the 15 line might not be as fab in the end either… maybe, just maybe, time will tell that the battery issues are not fixed after all, why would they when Apple doesn’t even acknowledge there is a problem now… and to be honest it does seam to be “small” incremental improvements judging the rumours. Everything is pointing at the 16 to be a bigger leap, so personally going to probably hold out until then and skip the 15 pro/max. Probably hehe. But in any case I’m going to follow the reports on the 15 line to really see how it’s judged and performance irl. Anyway, I’m a strong believer in having a phone for at least 3-5 years in general if your needs doesn’t drastically change, and the bonus is you’ll most certainly be mostly happy with the improvements 😀

Edit: cut down the ranting a bit…

At this point, all I want is more ram on my phone. I don't care for all the rest. My 13PM is already very fast but 6GB of RAM is objectively ridiculous, especially in 2023. We should have at least 8GB or even 12. I still have many apps and safari tabs reloads and that's the #1 thing that irritate me the most about my phone and will consider an upgrade if more ram is added.

But I don't really expect much otherwise. The upgrades in phone market are very little since a good 4-5 years now. USB-C? I don't care, I always charge my phone wirelessly since 2018. I can count on my fingers how many times I needed to plug my phone on my computer/wall over the last year or two.

Yes. I’m planning to upgrade to the iPhone 15 pro. I’m currently using an iPhone 11 Pro Max since launch, and think it’s time for an upgrade. I’m also looking forward to a slightly smaller phone than what I’ve currently been using

Huh. The 15 pro models are both rumoured to be almost twenty grams lighter this year. 188g & 221g respectively.
20 grams. That’s like 4 sheets of A4 paper or an empty soda can. Just as a comparison.

Edit: just to add, according to the rumours there’s ca 55g difference between 14 pro max and 15 pro. Now that starts to be something of a downgrade plus.

I’m considering downsizing to 15pro from my 14pm…are you at all concerned abt the smaller battery?
