Are you upgrading to the 11/11Pro/Max?

Will be the first time I am staying on same Iphone for 3 years. Only incremental upgrades since X and don't want to play OLED screen lottery

I’m pretty sure I just said my criteria is the GPU. I do a lot of mobile gaming and my main suite is Adobe’s software. Android phones can’t compete with Apple there ... at least not yet anyway.

What are these improvements in the GPU that are so noticeable on a 5.5” screen?

fixed...

...buying any new Apple product is far more exhausting than it is fun, trying to make sure you get a good one.

The 2019 camera looks promising but from what I see the rest of the upgrades seem dull. New cpu is slightly faster than the XS Max. No usb-c, no 5g, battery life slight upgrade. The above is just not enough for me to consider it.

Only way I’d upgrade are the following:

Bigger battery capacity
Promotion display
Higher resolution screen
5g support in 2020 when more carrier start rolling out 5g in more places
Faster faceid, atm Face ID is okay, but it could definitely be better with a wide angle camera.

Not even the biggest die hard apple dans are all that excited about the new iPhone this year.

Only thing I’d upgrade this year would be my first gen AirPods if they release another AirPod that is better than the 1.5 AirPods.

I'm at the point where I need to see:

-Bigger battery (getting it this year)
-Faster/Better FaceID (getting it this year)
-120 Hz ProMotion display (no indication this is happening)
-Qualcomm modem (not happening, don't care about 5G but DO care about Qualcomm over Intel)
-Whitepoint slider so I can set my own damn white point (no, Color Filters is a piss-poor substitution and yes, TrueTone and Nightshift are forever off)

I don’t understand what you’re asking. The GPU has nothing to do with the screen size. Performance is important in graphical applications and games and Apple is still at the top in that regard. What’s hard to understand about this? The screen size just makes things easier to do when it’s, you know, bigger.

The intel modem in my XS Max is driving me absolutely nuts. There is no way I will buy another phone with an intel modem inside..... I have to wait for Qualcom in 2020 or for Apples own modem iteration.

I get them all so I’m not skipping, with two small children camera upgrades are certainly something I value so this one will hopefully be nice.

I fail to how the iPhone 11 will be pointless...features may not be massive but big camera improvements will be worth upgrading alone

Maybe worth $1000 for 12 months to you but everything points to 2020 iPhones being massively more interesting

Plus no crippled Intel modem

Obviously a phone will be better a year later

With annual upgrades buying each year really isn’t a big deal

If camera quality matters it’s worth it this year as well as next year

Given how much value iPhones hold upgrading every year is not as bad on the wallets. Not like it’s an android that has next to no value 12 months later

Or, like me, if you only upgrade every other year, I'll save $1000 by not upgrading this year. If next following isn't THE year for a new iPhone, I will save $2000 over those two years. So yes, even saving $1000 is a big deal, to me.

You seem to own a shocking amount of current hardware for someone who's into saving money on new phones.

I'm a former annual upgrader. Finally going to stop doing that this year. My Xs Max is an outstanding phone.

Going big again this year, tomorrow will be exciting for me if not for anyone else and I am so fine with it.

And maybe there is a reason for that. Things in the background you have no idea about. Like an Xs that isn't quite a year old and still works beautifully and takes great pics. That purchase because my son's old 5s died so he got my 7, Or a failing tcMP that was giving up the ghost and while still working  gave me a good trade in value to go along with the military discount. Not to mention the iPad Pro I gave my wife and the mini that died and needed to be replaced. Yes I have spent a lot on  product but only when warranted. A new iPhone 11 or whatever is not needed and therefore I don't have to spend the $1000 this year. $1000 saved.
I love retirement!
