My M1 2TB iPad Pro is still king. I don't expect any advancements with the M2 chip. External Monitor support most likely coming in Dec update. At this point, treat the 2022 model as an extreme minor upgrade.

The M2 Air has series heat problems [since there is no fan] With the iPad Pro also being a fanless design, would most likely have the same issues.
Granted, there is debate of IF there is a point for M1 performance in IOS, IF you do 3d Sculpting I would wager that there is a point to M2 performance. Especially since the low power cores are so much improved.

I do wish there was more PRO software for iOS. Or atleast that Apple made a serious effort to bring the Ipad OS closer to OSX in professional use AND promoted it as such. Aka properly performant/organizable filesystem and no stupid bugs in transfer speeds and weird external monitor support.

IS there a reason not to enable full OSX functionality once connected to monitor and a keyboard? Excluding their "closed garden" approach to IOS, which is supposed to be for security/stability, but feels a-lot like a locked ecosystem justification when it comes down to it.

So just have the iOS experience be what you see when you are wireless and on battery, but when you connect to a monitor and a keyboard it turns into a proper OSX machine with a drawing tablet. There is no technical reason this isn`t doable.

Processor isn’t even fully utilized for the M1 iPad Pro so most likely not. 🤪

Tasks that can take advantage of faster chipset and storage do.

Back when I had the A12X iPad Pro to compare with, I’ve noticed firmware and app updates/install all finish quicker on the M1 iPad Pro. I could start the update/install on the A12X before the M1 but the M1 would finish first and would already be in a useable state while the A12X is still stuck installing.

Games, etc. can benefit from higher settings and/or smoother frame rates.

I have absolutely no need to. My iPad Air with A14 does everything I need it to do perfectly.

First day purchase for me. Getting silver instead of space gray. Looking forward to the half-inch larger screen than my 10.5 Air 3, promotion, and 4 speaker system.

Which games are not playable and not running smoothly on the M1 right now?

None considering it’s currently top of the line.

However, I expect the 40% faster GPU on the M1 allows for higher settings/framerates on games that have already been optimized for M1 versus A12X/Z.

Mind, I’ve noticed Genshin for iPad (even M1) doesn’t look as good as Genshin for PC so I believe there’s still room for improvement (even though I have no plans of upgrading from M1 to M2).

I'm looking to go from an Air 4 to a theoretical M2 Pro for thunderbolt. I have a CalDigit dock that most devices can plug in to but doesn't support USB-C in. The larger screen size is also a plus for reading because I find the 11" to be too big in single page portrait mode but uncomfortably small in two page landscape.

My guess is they will finally move the camera to the horizontal side and introduce dynamic island. Plus MagSafe, 2000 nits, and M2.

If you have any of the iPad Pros there is absolutely no need to upgrade, they are all still to this date perfromance beasts!

Unlesss of course Apple decide to release a power hungry App (never going to happen) or an 11" iPad Pro with MiniLED

In my case, if they release an iPad pro 11" in MiniLED then take my money!

I will upgrade from M1 iPad Pro 12.9 to M2, only if my existing magic keyboard case is compatible with M2. I know that I can sell last year’s iPad Pro at a very good price. But I don‘t expect magic keyboard to retain its original price in the used market. I can only justify the M2 price if I can keep using my magic keyboard.

I already got a M2 MacBook Air. So I will be sticking with the M1 12.9 iPad Pro.

I see no reason to upgrade from my M1 12.9. I can do everything I need on it and then some. The screen is gorgeous. The only reason I would upgrade is if it breaks.

If Apple does add some major exclusive M1 or M2 iPadOS 17 features that my iPad won’t get, I will be very tempted to upgrade sooner or later. I planned on getting the M2 because Stage Manager wasn’t available on my iPad, but they gave it to older iPads so I cancelled my upgrade plans. I know external monitor support still is exclusive to M1 iPads, but I don’t have any good external monitors. If I did, I would buy a new iPad. And after testing out Stage Manager on my iPad, it’s really buggy, even though it is a good feature, and I really hope Apple irons out all the bugs soon and if they don’t, they should label it as a beta feature like they did when Universal Control initially came out

Not upgrading but waiting to get my first IPad when the new models are released! Can’t believe I haven’t got on this bandwagon already even though I’ve been a Mac user for decades.

M2...magsafe...slightly faster 5G. That's about it for upgrades, from what I've heard. And if you use the magic keyboard, it sort of already does magsafe if you plug the power adapter directly into the keyboard. Not enough to justify an upgrade IMO. For me, it would need a storage bump (4tb? - unlikely) or some other amazing new capability to consider upgrading my 2021 2TB model.

Curious to know what would you store in a 4TB iPad. I could make use of that on a Mac (I actually use 8TB on my Mac Mini with the external storage permanently attached), e.g. using it as a plex server, but I can't even make use of more than half of my 1TB iPad....

My M1 11” iPad Pro is still working great, so I can’t justify an upgrade.
I don’t see any new likely features that would make an upgrade needed for me.
Plus I just did my watch so can’t afford it anyway!😂😂

OLED in that size is crazy expensive. Especially if it’s done by Apple’s standards.
iPad displays have been questionable for the last couple of years now so wouldn't really compliment their standards, or lack thereof. OLED is not that expensive and I would argue miniLED is currently pricier. Additionally, Apple would just buy OLED panels from Samsung since their tablets already have similar sizes.

4TB is pretty easy to fill with media if you don't want to or can't rely on internet for streaming.

Last time I went on a month-long vacation/family reunion to PH, I brought a laptop+4TB portable HDD which functioned as a mobile Plex server. That only contained a subset of the content on the 20TB NAS.

I’m tempted to go from 12.9 to 11 inch. I know I would be losing mini led but I still have my mini led MacBook Pro if I need it. I think 11 inch would be a better option for portability between my mini 6 and 16 inch MacBook Pro
