I have a 2020 iPP 11” but considering to upgrade either an M1 or M2 because I'm struggling the following:

1. Slow auto-filling. Occasionally I should wait about 10 seconds after Face ID authentication.
2. Frequent reloading on Safari.

I have no idea if they're software issues or a lack of memory, but I would replace if there's a chance to fix it.

That is strange behaviour at least for point 1. Point 2 how many tabs are do you have open? My12.9 iPP from 2020 is very fast.

I always open around 20 tabs in two windows but reloading occurs when I switch to different apps, and rarely occurs using only Safari. For delaying auto-filling, someone suggests signing out from iCloud and signing in again to fix the issue. I'll try after replacing my iPP using express service.

Reloading apps/tabs in Safari is completely normal even on the latest Ipad Pros running iPadOS 15. Memory Swap will alleviate this issue.

Not unless they move the camera on the 12.9 IPP to landscape. That would make me upgrade my 2021 12.9 IPP. Stage Manager is terrible (on all of the beta’s including the current one) so I left it off.

Any thoughts on what I can expect if I upgrade from a 2018 iPad Pro (11"/64 GB) to a M2 iPad? Will it be night and day faster? Will the screen be much better? This this is long since depreciated, but still works for lighter workloads.

Also, wondering about the larger screen (12.9") model. My eyes are not getting any better as I age, and I have been wearing reading glasses for years. But I read with this in bed and I expect the 11" will hurt less when I fall asleep and it hits my face. :-o

This is the reason why along with my M1 12.9, I also have an iPad Mini. Far less painful on the face!

M1 is a marginal improvement over M2 (M2 performance is well know from Macs). I have both 2018 and M1 iPad pros and I can tell you it's far from being night and day. They are both extremely fast. It's a bit like changing the resolution on a youtube video from 1440p to 4k on a laptop screen (assuming the screen is 4k): you can see it's sharper, but it's far from night and day (night and day would be moving from 720p to 4k or from 360p to full 720p). In the 11in the screen will be the same. In the 12in it will be better but mainly in the dark, for things like browsing or reading in daylight I can barely see any difference.

The displays on current 11” M1 iPad Pros look dated as f. Especially poor contrast and black levels.

Getting both models of the iPad Pro lineup onto the same display technology would be nice, seems like some form of OLED is what will eventually happen...

Front-facing camera(s) & whatnot moved to landscape seems a no-brainer with Apple pushing the Magic Keyboard accessory; but will the competition for "real estate" between the camera array & the needs of the Apple Pencil mean the camera array goes the way of the iPhone 14, behind-the-screen with cutouts & the Dynamic Island...?

Wait, there is a camera?!!! Just kidding, but I have never used the camera on any of my iPads.
if you have faceID on your ipad then you use it the whole package every-time you unlock it, pay for something etc
Now its a part of the system, the sensor, the dot projector the infrared flood illuminator etc

Of course not, I'm an iPad Pro M1 owner. iPad is a content consuming device, so no need to be on top specs. Same for Air 4, Air 5 and iPad Pro with A12X and A12Z CPU owners.

Just got the 2021 Ipad Pro 12.9 coming in the mail tomorrow. It was 825.00 (I have a connection) I know the new ones are coming out soon but the 275 dollar savings I could not pass up. I am coming from a 2014 Ipad Air 2 so should be a nice change.

Do you think the M2 iPad 12.9 will suffer the same blooming issue? It’s pretty bad sometimes on the M1 iPad 12.9.

Depends on the price hike outside the US. Coming from an iPP 12,9" (2017), it would be time for me by now, but still...

late to the thread, to be sure but my take on it is, that an M2 based iPad offers me very little and I see no reason to change over from my M1 iPad Pro that if I was honest with myself I use very little. I also have iPad mini and whil it doesn't have an M1, I use that a lot more.

My needs are content consumption so a faster processor means very little to me.
To be fair, M1 iPad owners aren't really the target demographic for the M2 anyway, especially if it ends up being solely a spec upgrade. The improvement would barely be felt by the vast majority of users.

I'm on a 2018 model, which still performs incredibly well. These things can hold up for an insanely long time before an upgrade would really be necessary.

OLED in that size is crazy expensive. Especially if it’s done by Apple’s standards.
Yeah but seriously, how much more could it be? Just call it iPad ULTRA MAX and make it shinier. People will buy it and i will draw on it. Market dominance leads to more sluggish innovation sometimes I reckon.
