This was definitely my weirdest pre-order year. I must have mistakenly gotten Next 30 instead of 24 last year when I got the X on my line, and didn't realize that you have to pay of 80% instead of 50% on the faster plan
So, I didn't really want to spend almost $600 to pay to upgrade while my wife's line on the Next 24 plan only owed like $143 to upgrade. So my solution was to borrow another line's upgrade eligibility (my brother is still rocking a 6s Plus) and got that order in within like 5 minutes of preorders going live. But due to some travel and like half as much sleep as normal in the days proceeding pre-order, the BOGO add a line seemed like a good deal to my sleepy brain, even though I have no need for another line (already have 4 people + 2 iPads on our account) but I would have kept it anyway if you could have switched to a 256GB with that offer instead of the 64GB. Ended up cancelling that order the next day, but the replacement order still says 9/21 delivery so fingers crossed.
My wife's order on the other hand was a whole different deal. Needed to pay off the $143 to upgrade early and the saved card had the wrong zip code on it (even though I pay my wireless bill with that saved card every month and it goes through no problem). No big deal, one would think, right? WRONG! The ATT site refused to edit the card or change cards when I added a different one. And not just on one browser/device. In total, I tried three devices and 4 different browsers to try and get it to work and waited on chat support for over an hour trying to get to billing people to help. Finally gave up at 1:30AM Pacific because I desperately needed sleep. Took my wife trying one thing through the normal billing site to give me an idea thirty minutes later (and maybe a bit more awake) that maybe I just needed to edit the card through the normal bill pay portion of the site for it to work and it did. Really frustrating when their website doesn't work but so far all seems well as they should both be delivered Friday. Still not going to believe that until I have the phones in hand but...
Last but not least, anyone have any experience with activating a phone to a different line than what it was ordered on? My brother lives across the country so I would hate to get the phone, activate it and then find out I had cut out his service. I know I'll need to do a SIM card swap, but is a call to ATT before turning on phone my best bet?
