Well, I put my old sim in first and it wouldn’t activate. It basically bricked the phone. It never did activate. I had to return it and get another one. When I got that one I activated it with the sim that came in it, then called att and had my mother in law’s number put back on her old SIM card, and then I put my sim in the new phone and all was well. It was a pain... but it worked out. This year I am going to activate it on the number we upgraded on and then just drive over with the sim and put it in their phone and then put my sim in the new phone.

Is any of this making sense? I recommend getting your brothers current IMEI and SIM. It’s possible that putting your sim in the phone and then turning it on for the first time will work. I might have just had a dud. I am just not going to risk that this year.
And yeah, your post totally made sense. Thanks for the info.

Sounds like, as with all things ATT, I'm going to end up messed up either way. On the one hand, your experience with a bricked phone is pretty catastrophic. But on the other, having to talk to ATT telephone support can also be pretty catastrophic ;)
I’ll note this, the years I have had trouble the phones have been ordered from Apple. It’s possibke ordering them directly from At&t will be different. We shall see.
[doublepost=1537327151][/doublepost]So... I ordered a 44mm aluminum gold watch too... it still says in progress.

My phone says preparing to ship.

Anyone else?

Ok, so I’m not alone in that. I was worried there was something wrong with that line. I actually trust that if they say it will be here on the 21st, it probably will. Everything else I’ve ever ordered has been on time or early.

What I like a lot about the Xs Max is the fact the phone is larger but not really "wider"
Actually...don't even freak out then. AT&T and order updates are awful. Freak out Friday at 8:01pm when you don't have your phone. I know it's hard...but trust the process.

Yup. You speaketh the truth! I've had phones delivered without tracking confirmation before

Wow. We ordered within seconds apart. I ordered at 2:04:49 CT.

I believe AT&T uses fedex and a signature IS required.

I haven't had to sign for at least my last two pre orders. The 7 and X and I don't think I had to prior to those either but it's been so long I can't recall. I also can't recall if it was UPS or Fedex that delivered but it was definitely ATT that I pre ordered from.

I think this is a new feature across AT&T. Taxes are also able to to be billed to your monthly bill as well.

I know this has been mentioned but since others have had varying experiences with this; when I pre ordered I didn't even see a place to choose how to pay the taxes. In the past it's just always been auto added to my next bill.

Funny thing. With the 3G or 3Gs, the phone HAD to be activated through iTunes on a computer and there was one point activations completely failed for many people due to server issues, if I recall correctly. This was when AT&T was the exclusive carrier for iPhone.

Definitely don’t miss those days.

Would the auto tax deduction be a result of having autopay activated on your account?

Nope. the last two years I've been able to pay the tax on the following bill and ive never had autopay set up. on the order screen under payment method it let's you pick a payment option and it's listed. although the option may depend on your account and/or account history

As a FedEx delivery person I can say that ATT does not require a signature on iphones for whatever reason. Verizon does though. Verizon always slowing my day down haha.
The last time I ordered from AT&T (iPhone 7 Plus), FedEx left it at my apartment door. I had to rush home to get it before it went missing.

So, like the bulk of everyone here, I ordered just before 3 AM EST. 256 Gold Xs Max.

Fast forward to today, it's still Preparing to Ship, but I noticed some extra money in my checking account (I paid the taxes upfront) and I'm pretty sure it's the taxes. That said, I'm expecting that these phones will be shipping at any moment now as I've seen instances like this where the money will be put back into my account (with other orders I've done outside of ATT) and then finally taken out permanently once the item ships.

Mine went back to “We are working on your order”.
Yesterday it was Preparing to ship.
Sounds like the system is screwy.

I ordered at 551 the day of pre orders which I’m in central so 451 XS Max Gold 256. In Preparing to Ship. Hopefully today since it was in that stage yesterday

Well I’d assume so I just don’t recall seeing this option menu when checking out. I would be surprised if ATT’s sites are that well built but then again who knows. It’s not a worry but I find it interesting. I just recall the early days of preorders when their sites were awful. They’ve come a very long way.
