Thank you for the replies to my earlier question. I’ve spoken to a manager and chatted with a manager today about their botched preorder delivery. One of them (a manager with order fulfillment) told me that since the devices were released today, they couldn’t even be shipped until today. It seems that many of their employees don’t understand how this process is supposed to work and how it has worked in the past.

Yeah all of the employee's clearly don't know the process. The wireless companies get the phones from Apple ahead of release day. For years its been the same process, you preorder a week before the release date so that you get it delivered or can pick it up on release day without having to wait ( mail or in line at a store) That is the whole reason people preorder to begin with. LOL And as we see by others comments some got them today so they had to have been shipped before today.

OMG, talk about a scare! I was waiting today for my phone (work from home) via FedEx by 4:30pm. I Have a cameras that can see anyone walking up to the door. Nothing, all day. I remain calm. At 4:15 PM I went outside to chill after work and wait. At 4:40 PM there was still no package so I checked FedEx and to my horror it showed “delivered.” Frantic call to Fedex escalated to a supervisor who called local office who was supposed to call driver. Totally bummed out at that point. I figured this thing is gone or screwed up at another house somewhere so I made the call to AT&T. While I was on hold with AT&T Fedex showed up and the driver apologized and said he thought it was the housing development right behind mine (which of course is not the same address at all). He said he went back and got my package and handed it to me.

At this point I am just happy I have my phone. I’ll have time later to process what really went down, but it seems very strange. Roller coaster ride, this has been.

Canceled AT&T and went with T-Mobile who has 2 phones for me to be picked up tomorrow at store and is paying for me to leave one installment plan early. Service works great in my area ( I did ask a friend who had service to come by so I could be sure since that is the priority). Never been happier to get rid of AT&T. Good luck to all with your orders.

Updating my situation. I ordered 6 iPhone 12’s (all 64 GB) - 2 Red, 2 White, 1 Blue, 1 Black. The Reds and Whites arrived today. Received a shipment notification that the Blue shipped today for Saturday delivery via FedEx Express. I’m very surprised by that - impressed AT&T is paying to have phones delivered via FedEx Express on a weekend. No movement on the Black though.
I am usually the first person to criticize AT&T - I truly feel they are the worst company in the US. However this pre-order has gone very smooth for me and nothing to complain about. It sounds like we ordered phones that were less popular (64GB versions) than others that many people are having problems with - especially since I just ordered these 3 days before launch at. Just sharing our experience - sorry to everyone who is having problems and having typical AT&T experience.

I tried checking with T-Mobile. It shows none of the local stores have any.:(

Yeah same thing happened to me, I believe it’s best to just get phones directly from Apple, their customer support is much more knowledgeable on the subject (not surprising). If it’s a phone that’s already been release then AT&T should be just fine, today I ordered 11 Pro Maxes for my mom and sister (my dad is waiting for the 12 pro max) and it went very smoothly as those phones were already in stock. Funny thing happened though, tried to get a silver 11 pro max for my mom and the closest shopping date was March 21st 2021 lol

No movement on 12 pro Gold 128gb
ordered on 10/16 7:05am cst

hope the ship over the weekend

Ordered an iPhone 12 pro blue 512 at 7:53 am. Delivery nov 2-9. I assume it’ll arrive sooner. Even if it doesn’t it will still be ok.
It shipped today. Hope it doesn’t take 9-16 days to get to me. It might. Crazy world we live in.

So in some other forums... ATT phones are not recognizing the 5g - 5g auto- and LTE settings. Happened to me also so posting in here to help you guys out when you get your new phones.

Couple things. You need one of the new Unlimited plans to get 5G- Starter- Extra - Elite to be able to get 5G ...

problem people are facing is Under cell data options it still has the standard LTE or 4g options no 5G.... I had my iPhone X SIM card in the phone and was giving me the same LTE and 4G... I went back to my box and put in the white SIM card that was pre installed in my iPhone 12 pro and went on ATT.com/getstarted and I activated the new SIM card... I restarted the phone and I was able to get the 5G - 5G auto- and LTE settings. People are still saying they don't have it after activating the new SIM card so you'll have to contact ATT.

my 12pro wasn’t working with new sim. ATT website kept throwing errors. Was on hold for hours with premier. Swapped SIMS for now.

I don't think we will see any movement for days. Hell at this point I anticipate them bumping my 10/23-10/30 date out further.
Ya I feel the same. My 12 was supposed to be here yesterday and Pro says 23-30 and neither has any movement.

I got my phone at 11am yesterday. The pre-installed simcard DID NOT work. I could not activate through their stupid site neither. I the simcard swapped out from my Samsung Galaxy S8.

I thought I received a dummy or fault simcard. Turns out I didn't.

I tried again just now through:

I'm all set, finally...24 hours later.
AT&T is horrible in terms of scamming customers, fees, and flat out customer service. I stay with their network because I get the best reception from them in the NYC area.

P.S. don't chuck out the old sim card or the new one they gave out.

This may be a dumb question, but do I need to use the new sim card that came with the phone? Using my old one 5g does appear sometimes. I cannot seem to get the new one activated.

I read somewhere that you do need the new SIM card. That said you can easily tell by going to settings and checking cellular options. If you see 5G options there then you should be OK with that Sim card. Personally I didn’t even want to take the new Sim card out of my 12 and I finally got it activated through AT&T. It can be done. I wish I remembered the steps I took.

FYI: I don’t think you can blame AT&T for the Sim card issue. I see the exact same issues occurring in the Verizon order thread. Seems like it must be an Apple issue.

I ended up getting an escalation through ATT Premier after Tweeting. For some reason my activation was stuck and needed a tech to figure it out. In interim I had used swapped sim from XS Max to get service. Had to get new Sim activated as realized it was SIM I switched a few times already. Crazy.

Forgot to update. Got my 12 Pro this morning from the Apple Store along with the MagSafe charger and case. Tbh very surprised by how strong the magnets really are, some videos I saw reviewing them made them seem a bit weak but they’re pretty darn strong considering why they do. Overall, pretty happy with the phone so far, battery life is excellent compared to how my main driver was.

Can anyone help me- I cannot get my new SIM card activated. I went to the att.com/getstarted, select SIM card and follow the steps. It said I don’t have anything needs to activated. Now I have to use my old SIM card in the new phone.

could you share how did you activate the new SIM card? I went to their website, input my phone numberand zip code,it said no device needs to activate...

I get people are upset about their phones not arriving, but holy cow the amount of Karens in this thread whiny about call center or chat employees is shocking.
Guys calm down, it’s a phone. You will get it in a few days. No amount of harassing a min wage call center person will change that. You are likely buying a phone they can’t afford.

this entire thread belongs in r/entitledcustomers
