The difference here, though, is that in previous generations, the i7 had other differences aside from just an increase in clock speed. But with the 13" tMBP, literally the ONLY difference between the 2.9 i5 and 3.3 i7 is the clock speed. That's it. So even though I do suspect the i7 will get slightly worse battery life, I think the difference will be fairly negligible.

this was posted earlier in the thread..It's one theory but not fact. I believe it's either this or it's something with Sierra that needs a patch. I am on a 2.9ghz TB and I find the battery life to be reasonable. Although this SMC thing has me intrigued.
it helps for sure earlier i posted what i was originally getting at like 12:30pm which was terrible by the way and put picture of that then i did it after i was told about it by a live chat person , 6 hours and a half later still at 50% battery left i been use it the whole time lol just safari tho i work doing live chat for a company so my laptop always on
[doublepost=1479514544][/doublepost]just try it nothing to loose takes 40 seconds hope it helps.

Brief update. 1:01 used on battery and Apple telling me 8:21 remaining. Not quite as good as earlier, but still better than before the SMC reset. I'd be perfectly happy with >9 hours.

On my 15" fully loaded BTO, did the SMC reset. Prior to that, at 100% charge it was telling me about 5.5-6 hours life (depending on screen brightness).

It's now telling me 12.5 hours at full charge, with same apps running.

If you'd really like to be able to monitor this, install Coconut Battery, and configure it to show how much power in Watts is being used by the battery in the top menu bar. With the 13" TB model, you need to keep that to 5W and under if you want 10 hours of battery life. At 6W you'll get just over 8 hours, at 8W just over 6 hours, etc. This makes it really easy to correlate your usage patterns to power consumption.

trying to find instructions on how to do it now!

Figured it out but how do you know it was actually done? I don't feel like there is any indication it was reset after you shut down, hook to power, hit shift, control, option, power, let go then hit power again. Those are the instructions I used. Hope it was correct!

That is the correct procedure. If it didn't turn on the first time you hit power (at same time as other keys) it probably worked. Check your expected battery time.

Only way I figured it out was by the significant difference in battery estimate. I'm still on track for almost 10 hours if Apple's estimate is correct.

Interesting I just downloaded it. when it 1st opened it it was at 7-8 W. Just leaving it alone for a min (screen and apps still opened) lowered it to 2.3-3W. But now as I'm typing this message it went up to 5+ W I'm going to keep an eye on it. It also shows my capacity is at 102% which is strange but good I think

Yeah I am noticing a difference in that too. Right now the way this 13 TB is working I think I am ok with the battery life on it. If I get within and hour of Apples tests on a laptop with this much bling I think I can be happy. Anything less I start questioning it. I completely killed Siri and turned off the keyboard backlight too. Although I just noticed Siri is back in my TB..Now we're fighting Siri!

I tried this but it doesn't seem to have worked. Safari seems to be averaging a draw of about 11 watts or so - could this have to do with my extensions or something? I only have wipr, 1password, and a chinese-english dictionary installed, though.

dont hook it to power i skip that step because if u hook it to power it turns on the computer immediately , click on the apple on the left top then shut it down , then hold down the 3 keys i said before and the power button all 4 at the same time for 10 sec then let all of them go and then just press the power button , charge it to a 100% and then unplug it and see if the estimate is higher then what you were getting before and if u notice it decreasing in a slower speed then before which is my case and some of the others aswell

I use 1Password. I'd try turning them off one by one and see what effect that has.

I'm not trying to defend Apple here, but I've noticed that my computer is search and working toward a Time Machine backup for the last day or so. I'm guessing that is the culprit of some of my battery life issues.

I am on a 13 inch MBP TB with the 2.9ghz i5, 8gb RAM, 512SSD. I am getting 9 hours of battery consistently. I plan to return this machine as it was only to test it out while I order my custom spec that won't be here until late Dec. People need to report what their spec is when they are claiming short battery life

I also had a 15 which never got more than 7 hours, which is back with Apple now. I have this 13 pared down, no Siri, no keyboard backlight etc. I think it's a little ridiculous that Apple may have undersized or not properly configured these batteries because this is a really great machine. Yet I can't use all it's features without sacrificing too much battery. I love the laptop overall but battery life is proving to be a deal breaker for some

I have the 13" TB, 2.9/16/512. It said 8 hours at 97%, now it's 87% and says 7:45 remaining.

Overall, I can run it off and on all day without going below 50% with my usage. I just charge it at night like a phone. A lot nicer than my 2009 model it replaced, which currently gets around an hour. ;)

That sounds promising, although I'd love to see one solid credible review source taking 3 or 4 identical models of the touchbar 13", and 3 or 4 identical models of the touchbar 15", and see what their results are:
- word editing & web browsing at 60% brightness
- word editing & web browsing at 100% brightness
- watching YouTube, playing music, web browsing, and occasionally running a demanding application at 60% brightness & at 100% brightness

Anecdotal reports are all over the place :(

Thats the spec I have on order..So you're having a normal battery experience with it? I wouldn't dare order the I7 with all the controversy over the battery. I can into feeling confident in Apples history with batteries. Boy was I wrong. I really hope the battery thing is limited to a few or can be fixed for folks, because this is a great laptop.

Yeah I agree, it's a little crazy out there right now with the reports. I will add that I am doing ONLY web surfing, occasional youtube video. Nothing intense at all. I wouldn't have any confidence in this battery under some kind of load. But honestly I would be on the plug with any intensive task anyway. I just want it to last during what I do most which is surfing and other light tasks.

I just picked up a 15" MBPtb 2.9GHZ / 1TB SSD/ AMD 460 / 16gb RAM. The following is my estimated battery life on a full charge running a few applications in the background. It seems far less than the estimated 10 hours.

EDIT:
I turned down the brightness from max to about 60%, and that improved the battery life by about 2 hours.

Try SMC reset. Made a huge difference with may 2.9/2TB/460 configuration. Doubled the life.
