Just used coconut battery on my 6S and here's what it says: maximum charge 1164 mAh, design capacity 67.9% of 1715mAh, 283 load cycles

Right but it comes down to software, nothing to do with the hardware since it was fine on a previous OS... Even more so that on early betas it was great, and now it's horrible.
True. It's gotta be software related.

There's your problem right there. That's why the battery life is crap. Use it until it dies and charge it back up to 100% uninterrupted to reset the battery gauge, then check again to see if there's a difference.

I've been doing that every day over the past week, at least until the battery dies out on me which is usually after 3.5 hrs and with 25% left (the phone just completely turns off and has the little battery with charging cable icon).

So your phone turns off at 25% left? Your battery needs to be replaced. It's lost almost 35% of its capacity too. If you're still under warranty, it's free.

That's what I figure. I'm going to the genius bar this afternoon. Still under warranty until Saturday, but I'm hoping for at least a battery replacement to at least rule that out. This all started with the iOS 10 update which is strange. I had similar problems last year and they replaced the phone, just odd that it's happening again.

I had a similar problem back when I updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 7. My battery's capacity dropped to around 65% too. I think it's something the update process does. Way back, doing a clean install on my old Windows laptop (instead of using the factory restore discs) also killed its battery. So strange.

I'm trying this with my 6 Plus but Coconut Battery just keeps saying no iOS Device connected. Any ideas?
I had the same issue and it was because they had an update for iOS 10. After the app update, coconut battery recognized the iPhone.

Download Vidgets app to see if something uses CPU. Idle usage should look something like this.

Someone should take a look on this. The same device and results from iOS 9 before update, after update to iOS 10 and after downgrade (if its soft based it should increase battery capacity or decrease it after update ).
Devices affected by that are iPhone 6S and... ?

Coconut battery finally kicked in after an iTunes update and a bit of swearing. Ok a lot of swearing

Phone is 743 days old, holding 88% of design capacity after 237 cycles. Like others it's turning off anywhere between 15-20% remaining.

OH YEAH! TOTALLY. This will definitely rule out iOS 10 ruining the battery physically.

Someone updating to iOS 10, PLEASE do this and let us know the results!

My 6s has similar charge cycles, and it also holds 88%. But it does not turn off at 20%. I think your battery is bad. How's your battery life on iOS 10?

THANK YOU. I did just find it before checking back here.

My info with my iPhone 6:
470 days - age
Max Charge: 1620 (80.6%)
Design Capacity 1810 (89.5%)
Load cycles 428

not sure how that compares I see the percentage but looks like they are moving?

The percentage you see next to Max charge is the current battery level.

The percentage you see next to design capacity is your Max charge capacity from the design capacity. It's a percentage of how much mAh you've lost from the design capacity.

Your phone is doing pretty good though. Much better than mine.

I suppose there is no way to increase the mAh then other than getting a new battery. Which isn't a simple fix.

On my new 7+, noticed using system status random spikes of CPU to 50-70% and then down to 6-8%, then again brief high spikes without doing anything. Had restored from a 6s + backup. Decided it was finally time to start fresh, and so far (knock on wood), significant significant improvement.

Good to know. My 7 is mediocre at best. Here is after what I'm looking like after three days of full usage and full charges.

Just got back from the Apple Store. They replaced my 6S due to the battery being bad. It only started having horrible battery life with iOS 10, but they ran diagnostics on it and said the battery was bad and immediately swapped out the entire device. I had 4 days left on my warranty, so figured I should have them check it out, and I'm happy I did.

It used to be ok on iOS 9 but iOS 10 isn't doing it any favours. Had one occasion this week where I got 4 hours of streaming and a bit of browsing and it dropped from 100% to 15%. My 6S Plus seemed ok on 10 but I can't do side by sides cos that one is sitting here with a smashed screen.

I've just hooked up my 6S Plus into Coconut Battery and I'm shocked. Apparently it's at 85.6% of design capacity after 275 cycles (379 days old). I'm really starting to think there might be some truth (even if only a little) in the thoughts that Apple deliberately programme their batteries so that by the time a new phone comes out your current one will take such a hit on the battery life that you think "sod it, I'll get a new one". Yes I'm paranoid, but it doesn't always mean they're not out to get you :)
