News sites are finally starting to cover 'bendgate'. Apple acknowledges iPads are shipping bent and saying it's 'normal'.

Where Apple acknowledge this? Links? Quotes? Just wondering as I'm joining the slight curve, but no warp club .

I looked for back warps on the back of my iPad a week or so ago, but not until I held it up to look at the side did I see my 12.9" LTE has a slight bend.

I don't think this is "normal" for the price paid. I'll probably live with it unless it gets worse. I really do rely on the iPad day to day. I just don't want to go through exchange after exchange trying to find one that is without issue. I've owned a lot of Apple Laptops, and several iMacs. None of them had cosmetic issues out of the box.

I don't see Apple or maybe anyone else can produce an tablet this thin without a bend or warp either in production or later in use. But Apple should have known better through better inspection and closer in field testing.

Beautiful design and high tech. devices are supposed to be Apple's hallmark (justifying high prices). Instead we get an iPad that bends like a Hallmark greeting card. Clever no:confused:

I remember back in the early TabletPC days where some of the tablets (Like Samsung?) would literally come apart at the seams after a while. Funny stuff. I mean, we are talking duct tape here. No one minded really, we liked them so much.

But we weren't particular overcharged up the *** for them ;)

And this thing should replace a laptop, a device which is used everyday and everywhere

Interestingly, my 12.9" version 1 iPad is perfectly straight. Wonder if the lack of the curved sides gives the iPad 12.9" rev 3 less rigidity in the manufacturing process and in general.

Thanks for posting. I'm not inclined to pay Apple prices for defective hardware. Thinking I will be keeping my 12.9 rev 1 for a couple more years. If I want bent product I can by an Android and pay less. God knows the Apple "ecosystem" is a buggy pile horse hockey of lately.

In a phrase: Apple needs mandatory drug testing policies.

Apple is all in with iOS. Can’t have any mess ups like this. They decided to make with minimum tolerances with materials and seems to have backfired.

Thanks, but I will say again. It wasn't mistreated.

You can say it all you want, but it doesn’t make it true. The fact is that if it is bent it was mistreated. It was mistreated at the factory and you didn’t notice when you opened it (which I find hard to believe) or it was mistreated while in your possession - either by you are someone that used your iPad. There’s no way around that - it’s not going to bend on it’s own.

You can order online, have it delivered, open the box, see it is bent walk in the shop and they will refuse and say it’s cosmetic. 14 days or not, they can say it didn’t come out of the box like that. Like they did with mine.

This is simply not true. You were either outside of the 14 day window or you are simply LYING about your experience.

Man, the responses of Apple apologists is a sight to behold

I’m not an Apple apologists. I just get sick and tired of people acting like Apple shouldn’t act like a business. If you buy a shirt at the Gap, take it home, wear it a bunch, then notice it has a rip in it, and try to exchange it - they are not going to take it back. In fact, Apple and Amazon are two of the most generous companies out there when it comes to customer experience and believing their customers. If they exchanged every defective device that was damaged by the customer they’d be out of business.....again, damaged by their cutsomer.

The bottom line is, if its bent out of the box and you don’t notice it, than you’re just not paying attention. If it was straight out of the box and is now bent, it was mistreated. It’s not rocket science. Pay attention and take care of your **** - that’s all you have to do.

My second iPad Pro 12.9” 1TB with cellular arrived today and is not bent. I’m happy now. My first one arrived bent out of the box and I contacted Apple immediately and returned it. The first one had an obvious bend, the middle of the iPad was level with the camera. My new one could have a very very slight bend or I could be imagining it. In other words, I’m considering this one to be flat and I’m very happy with it.

My wife's son sat on his sofa today and his iPad was on the sofa. He accidentally bent it on the short side. Took it to Apple and he said it was comical. He pretended it was mysteriously bent and Apple acted like they had never heard of such a thing... Yet they replaced it without issue. Wow customer service right?

I guess we can all continue to play charades while nobody admits fault.

Apple should seriously stop designing with such tight tolerances without margin for errors. They're producing a global product and if they don't want a high reject rate, they should allow more manufacturing margin tolerances by either making the chassis a little thicker, using a less malleable material or adding stainless steel reinforcement plates.

I already raised eyebrows when the 12.9" has the same thickness as the 11", so guess they're issues.

Previously was their keyboard switches which get stuck with dirt that it requires them to have a protective film and now this. Something is seriously not right with the company internal structure

Its aluminium ruler, but the ipad its not flat. I know its maybe 1 in a 1000 that is bend, but..we pay alot we expect alot it should be flat out of box,if its bend its should be listed as (i) bend ipad.

I wont mind over 0.5mm but 2/3mm is to mutch. I love apple products.

This is the first Ipad/electronic device i ever returned i never haf any defect with any company. Maybe thats luck

I've said that it's a problem and Apple is wrong for calling it normal. I also think it's overblown and people need to grow up a little and realize these things happen and it's not the end of the world.

Exactly. It's quite simple. If it comes out of the box bent, then Apple's QC missed it. If it comes out of the box straight, and then it gets bent, YOU bent it.

Yes, wow customer service, indeed. How many other company's would replace a product after your wife's son damaged it? None. So, yes, wow customer service.

Again...because you're not getting it. By the time it got to you, it was either bent in the box (you didn't notice) or you bent (mistreated) it. Not sure why you have a hard time understanding simple things. End of.

I’m not sure if you have heard but yesterday Apple confirmed some iPad Pros were shipped bent but state this is normal.

I would recommend returning it if you’re within that 14 day window and making sure the next iPad is not bent.

Hello,
After 1 week of using the ipad pro 11 inch i notice it slightly bended. All corners around 3mm it also have thin hairline crack on the middel left side, around 3cm, its in a full body case. The back of the ipad have some smal bumps. 3 days ago its becomes quit hot after using a heavy app.

Any idea why it happens?
" ps i am not english i hope its readable"

Return it and get a 10.5, much cheaper and higher quality.

I've got a slight bend on the edge of my 12.9 Pro. I actually just ordered an aluminum architect's ruler.I plan to just lay the ruler agains the back and check out the side.

I plan to double check what I think I'm seeing. Maybe I'm nuts? I guess we will see. I'm not sure if I would go through the hassle of exchange for me. Everyone must decide on their own. Still not pleased with Apple if it is indeed warped/bent.

I've had several iPads over the years. I have traveled with them, put them in my luggage, backpacks, duffle bags, sat on them, dropped them, and spilled stuff on them. Never, never did one of them bend.

It's quite simple... If it bends out of the box, or bends as a result of user error, the thing is flimsy. I would not take the new iPad with me on the road. Period. I would be afraid to put it in a backpack or even a brief bag. Sort of defeats the purpose of having a portable device that you can take with you.

And then we have all these apologists and defenders telling users to get over it, it's not Apple's fault, stop whining, etc.

Seems like some people are getting upset because some users want to hold Apple accountable for a flimsy product. Especially now since according to Apple a bent iPad is now considered "normal".

Just like you said. If you have used an iPad like a normal user for years and different models then all of sudden it is deemed abuse, without warning. That is a problem. Consumers should not be ridiculed for wanting a product out of the box to be straight or it’s in best possible condition. Now Apple is seeming trying to lower consumers’ expectations or say its okay if they set the standards along with what they expect you to pay for it. If this is Apple’s new normal then maybe they should put it writing as some disclaimer as they transition their standards to lower and lower.
