This news has put me off the 2018 pro. While there will be hundreds, if not thousands of people who have straight ipads out of the box (as it should be) who knows how long this will last as clearly the lack of internal support in the casing structure and super thin metals makes this one of the weakest ipad builds to date. Who's to say that the internal heat generated from the processor and battery won't warp the casing?

It's far too expensive an item to have to worry about receiving a bent one and having to deal with returns or thinking about possible defects in the future. I pay Apples higher prices to receive the best product that's going to last.

It's a damn shame but as usual, don't buy first gen designs. Waiting for the revision.

For the out and out defenders of all things Apple, if your happy with your product then more power to you. Just understand for some spending this kind of money, we expect defect free products.
Apple is easily making my 10.5 my last iPad. I agree with you 100%.

your joking right.

how long do u think itll be before people start seeing hairline cracks or malfunctions in the screen from the shoddy build. looks like u need to go work for apple cause your clueless like the red shirts in the store.

That does in no way sound like a plan. Apple is all about user experiences and you seriously try to sell the story that somehow they thought and even planned (!) to build this device to a low standard and have people be upset a out their tablet platform?

The devices seem to have annoying cosmetic faults. To expect hairline cracks based on that and call the entire build shoddy is childish at best. But sure believe in your theory that all these devices will fall apart shorty as it never happened for any iPad before.

Next one please.

Got my replacement today - seems straight, it was just over four weeks old and the store swapped it after seeing the bend, agreeing it was perfect and well looked after other than the warp. They were aware of the bending reports online, but said they had no official word on it yet.

was it bent recently or did you just start to notice it now that articles have started coming out? I think that is what is happening... there is a slight bend that people don't notice right away and this is less of a "my iPad bent when it was on my table collecting dust."

TBH, I wouldn't even accept a replacement, unless it was a brand new, sealed, out-of-the box replacement, and not one of Apple's refurb replacements that you get when you go in for a generic iphone/ipad fault. Can't be paying near enough £1K and getting a refurb a few weeks into use.

Return it and get a 10.5, much cheaper and higher quality.

Simply not worth the money. The 11" beats the 10.5" (I've had both) in every way. Faster. Better, bigger display. Gen2 pencil. FaceID works amazingly well, even in the dark. And while we're dealing with warped 11" versions, there's a long history of display problems with the 10.5".

The funniest thing is people fishing for new iPads while returning the old ones that are bent :D Hilarious

Well since you own a new iPad and have not had any issues, I guess no one else can complain or share experiences that are different from yours. You obviously know all there is to know about Apple's research and marketing strategies to the point where you claim others have no idea what they are talking about. To accuse someone of exaggerating or lying means you were obviously there in the store when a store employee was acting animated and shocked that someone brought in a bent iPad.

Passing all this judgment and claiming no one else is using common sense all because your iPad hasn't bent. Somehow that makes you an authority. I am glad you are happy with your product, and you obviously take care of your things, but the way you are reacting to other comments and situations seems a little harsh and unreasonable.

If other people have had less fortunate outcomes or have a negative opinion of a product it in no way should take away from your satisfaction or experience with the product. Conversely, just because you are satisfied does not mean everyone else is too.

I am definitely accusing people of lying and exaggerating. Have you ever met a human before?

I am definitely passing judgement on people who somehow claim their iPad was bent out of the box and they didn't notice.

I am definitely passing judgement on people who claim their iPad was fine and somehow bent on it's own. That's actually impossible. Force must be applied to bend it. That's the only way it's going to bend. So, either it was bent out of the box and they didn't pay attention, or they applied force to it and bent it themselves.

I am definitely passing judgement on people who act like Apple owes them something because they bent their iPad. Name one other company that's going to exchange a damanged product when you return to the store with it. There are none. Stores like Apple and Best Buy are being NICE by offering a 14-day return window. They do not have to do that. In fact, Apple is often very generous when it comes to exchanging products and doing repairs for free. They replaced my iPhone 3G because of a crack on the back (after I had it for months) and replaced my MacBook screen for free, when it was out of warranty.

Sometimes, passing judgement is called for. Again - take care of your crap and stop trying to throw the blame around when you damage your product, and pay attention when unboxing any device. It's not that hard.

To those who notice it bent out of the box, of course they should have it exchanged. That's not the issue here. The issue is the over-exaggeration for this whole bending issue, lying humas, exaggeratting humans, and entitled humas.

No one is bending my ipad, not the russian dude, not the jerry rigged dude. I had a 1.5mm stainless steel plate cut along with some machined aluminum braces. looks nice and industrial, adds some weight to the ipad but I have no fear of leaving it in a backpack.

Out of interest, are new LTE iPad's now shipping without bends? I'm on my second with a bend out of the box. Apple told me to come back early January for a replacement (Christmas return window is until the ~8th Jan, IIRC).

I’ve got my 12.9” LTE on Monday and it has a slight bend on the top and bottom and slight curve along the side.

WTF are you on about? Apple has admitted that some iPads are bent. Stop inhaling the Apple fanboi-fumes and come back to earth.

Yes, they have. I am well aware of that. SOME iPads are bent. I saw the article too. The admitted that some are bent right out of the box. Did you miss that point? Right out of the box, i.e. not through normal use.

I'm talking about the people that claim to not have noticed it was bent when they got it, and those who expect Apple to replace it for free after that damaged it. What part of Apple being a business do you not understand?

If someone opens the box and discovers it's bent that's one thing. But the careless out there expecting a replacement - that's just lame.

Apple has admitted to issues on the iPad. This is the fastest I've ever seen them admit to "something" that I've seen. How they treat their customers will be the real proof to current and future buyers of their products.

Really, the only thing of any concern is the replacement policy. It needs to be open ended. You need to be able to receive a bend free iPad.

Then again, they don't have a clue if it will bend later. So confidence inspiring.

"It shouldn't get worse". "Our manufacturing is impeccable".

I would be the first to call out hysteria, OCD, or whatever, but this seems very real.

I can tell the difference easily (well not easily, but i'm usually right).

Time will tell. They will probably have a return option in place very soon. That's all it takes. Make everybody happy.

Jeesh, it's Christmas. Maybe they can blame it on Santa?

dont you get it??? its all by design.

okay here's the def. from a very popular search engine! and ill explain it.

read the last sentence.. the part where it says "non-durable materials."

planned ob·so·les·cence
/ˌpland ˌäbsəˈlesəns/
noun
  1. a policy of producing consumer goods that rapidly become obsolete and so require replacing, achieved by frequent changes in design, termination of the supply of spare parts, and the use of nondurable materials.

let's face it.. apple is robbin' people
there's a laundry list of when apple has pulled this stunt. lets not get into it. they are fleecing the masses. one hand shows you the shiny glittering device while the other hand is stealing your wallet.

Super thin device from a manufacturer known for thin products with a history of devices that can bend. Along with confirmation from manufacturer that their prior product (iPhone 6/6Plus) was known to bend.

What do we do with this information, as modern day educated consumers?

You expect these things could happen.

I own a 1st Gen iPad Pro 12.9" which has a slight bend yet continues to work.
- Am I going to flip out and go nuts over a tiny bend? No. Because I am aware that it is a thin device.
- Am I going to lambast the manufacturer for making a thin product that might bend? No. Because it's a thin product.

People are over-analyzing their products. Yes, they are expensive. Yes you expect good build quality. But just look back on the manufacturers prior products and if you still choose to purchase them then.. Deal with it.

Hopefully that tiny bend on OPs iPad doesn't cause a major problem with their inflated ego.

Hilarious really.

dont you get it??? or is your head still stuck in the sand? its all by design.

LOL. Getting my aluminium foil hat out. All by design. Yup. Totally.

There is no plan in your planned obsolescence. There is no evil master plan to make all these devices rot away quickly. Feel free to pick up another product from a different company if you feel so unhappy as clearly you are not buying anything from Apple.
