Think more than anything these reports makes us paranoid. Without threads like this I wouldn’t even be looking at it from different angles

Amazing what the mind does to you and makes you think

Yes although it’s good to confirm others are seeing these oddities and your not going mental lol

It’s like some mass hallucination haha

Zero chance I bent it.

Zero chance there’s zero chance.

Just to let you guys know - I‘m going to return (and not get a new one) my 12.9“ LTE model in January because of the bend, even if it is not that obvious. If we pay 1.000 $ /1.000 € + for a device I don’t expect but REQUIRE those devices to be of high build quality. Sorry Apple, was always siding with you. But those literally insane prices (iPad + ASK + Pencil) paired with this issue is a no-go (at least for me). One would think that they have QC and people who use prototypes in real world usage, so I‘m surprised this has not been found out and addressed earlier. We all know those high margins on apple products, so I’m confident to say that we can expect quality. TL,DR: Voting with my wallet, which others should do, too. Hope I can encourage them.

(Need to find a new laptop/tablet now )

EDIT: had a chat with apple support yesterday. I asked the support guy if an exchange with a new unit was possible - Reply: only with AppleCare+ (which I understand). Next, I asked if AppleCare would be covering a bent iPad - Reply: Nobody really knows this as of right now, but it seems that a deductible would be due to replace those iPads. That’s what ultimately got me to the decision to return and not get a new one. Definitely not going to pay for a (factory-) bent iPad on normal usage.

Soooo you want Apple to do the right thing and put out a ‘quality’ build but in the meantime you plan on using the device essentially for free for a month knowing you plan on returning it?

Putting on my conspiracy theory hat, I think Apple knew about the bending/strength issues which is why they came out with these more likely higher cost “folio” cases that are open on 3 sides and panels connect with magnets.

If bending/strength was a nonissue, Apple would likely have rolled out a Smart Case with a cutout for the pencil. Concerns over relatively more bending incidents popping the iPad in and out of a Smart Case drove them to the folio design.

I did mess around with a 12.9 and 11 at the Apple Store today, put them glass down and they were flat.

My store only has the WiFi models on display. Those might be less prone to bending.

Yep. Sold my MBP before I bought the iPad and now I have to figure out which device to get instead of the iPad because of the not-so-good build quality..

EDIT: to be clear: I did not intend to use the iPad for free. I intended to replace my MBP for it - that’s why I sold the MBP. Cannot think of another way as to keep the iPad while figuring out which device to get instead of it. Can’t stay without any sort of tablet/laptop due to University.

Same scenario with the iPhone 6. They changed the alloy for the 6s which was a much stronger metal, leading to a strong sturdy device.

Feel sorry for anyone picking up a new iPad Pro. All these issues will inevitably be resolved in the next iteration. It's just how Apple works. One day people will learn to never ever buy a first generation/first iteration of a redesigned product.

I have had an iPhone 6plus, by your estimation a terrible bendy product, since day one, actively used for 3 years, still keep it for casual use, and not one single problem. I am thrilled with my new iPad 11 and I feel sorry for anyone that does not avail themselves to the latest technology out of other people's concerns. Is my iPad 'bent' if I use a laser to measure it? don't know, don't care. It works great and thats all I care about. I do take care with my stuff.

That does not say every device out of millions coming off the assembly line is perfect. I am sure there are people that have devices that are bent past usability. I am sure some have had them bend. I just think blanket statements based on minority cases about whole generations of products are not that useful.

We all know Apple is aware of the situation, but what we don’t know is how many units are actually affected, and how many customers are actually taking notice of a very _slight_ bend in the iPad, my guess is not many notice, unless they are looking at a specific Angle or they read threads like this.

I don’t believe Apple’s quality control is ‘Bad’ per se, but I do believe they need to ensure future batches are not leaving the Factory like this, or at least make sure the situation is being investigated.

Something more relevant may have been funny. Old Jobs quotes from 2010 that have been rehashed over and over, not so much. You might as well say how safari isn't as snappy due to bending.
Well generally when something stupid is said, it gets repeated over and over. And you saying I might as well say safari isn’t as snappy due to the bending...makes no sense whatsoever.

Don't talk for everybody please. I'd gladly trade some of that obsession with thinness in exchange of decent batttery life

Even if you got chunkier laptops, you're not going to get larger batteries. That's because you're not allowed to take a laptop on a flight if the battery in the laptop exceeds a certain power level. This never gets brought up.

The limit is 100WHr. The 2015 MBP had a 99.5WHr battery for this reason.

While not everyone would continue to use the device knowing they will return it this is perfectly ok with Apple and is one of the reasons customers get an extended return period over the Christmas time.

Apple encourages customers to buy and try in their stores as well. I guess that strategy has worked out so far.
