I also made the mistake of pre-ordering from Best Buy this year. My order still says "Get it by Fri, September 21" but after chatting/talking to customer service, I am not hopeful I'll be getting it on time...I buy a bunch of stuff from Best Buy each year, but I won't be buying anything else (if I can help it) if they don't come through.

Just opened a CHAT with BestBuy via their website. Gave my info stating my order status says "will ship by Sept 21st". I asked if I would receive the product by Sept 21st. She assured me that I would in fact receive the watch on Sept 21st. If it shows up, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I tried the chat and it was just as useful as calling the 800 number has been. Basically they said once it's released by the manufacturer they'll be able to pack it up and ship it. I informed them that I was well aware of how pre-orders work and that I was just looking for a general idea of when I could expect it. She said I can be sure I'll have it within a week of release, which is far better than the 10/5 - 10/12 window I received from Apple.

The question now is can I trust her?

I honestly don't think they know what they're talking about. I (obviously) hope their right and we'll get it as promised...but I expect from now on, my pre-orders will be from Apple.

I've been told the same thing. I don't feel reassured. I think BB is telling me what they think I want to hear.

I got the same impression BB doesn't know how this process works. Their customer service reps seems to be nice but don't have a clue. The reps are just reading from a script.

I ordered on the 14th at about 0815 and mine says "Status: Pre-Ordered" and below that "We'll let you know when it ships.".

Yes, mine changed to: "Pre-ordered, will ship when we d@mn well please and we won't give you any info in the mean time".

Haha, that's how it feels anyway. We may get it Friday, or some time in November...

I ordered from BB last Friday morning. Space Gray aluminum with the black sports loop. It said delivers/ships by 9/21. Now it says ships by 9/21. I chatted with BB and they said it looks like it should be delivered to me on the 21st. As I was typing this I got an email from UPS with a tracking number, but it's for something else. Got my hopes up.
 
Mine is showing that it will arrive on Friday, but no movement at all yet, so I'll be pleasantly surprised if it does indeed show up.

The customer support people don't know more than what you can see on your order. Their purpose is to get you off the phone and to do so that hopefully you feel satisfied. I wouldn't bother calling unless I wanted to cancel and couldn't do it online.

I'm seeing the same status on my end. I just cancelled my order. I don't want to reward BB for this much hassle and lack of customer service.

I am on the verge of canceling my order as well. My status is "We will let you know when it ships". They aren't even telling us S4 SS purchasers when we can expect delivery. Friday?, Next Month?, December?

Apple and BB are making it way too hard to get an SS model. I was online right when the both sites opened and no joy. I may go with an Aluminum, or I may just bail on the Apple Watch altogether. Apple seems to have put out a ridiculous few SS watches out for opening week. They were sold out in 2 minutes. Very Poor...

Like many, I ordered the 44mm space grey aluminum AT&T cellular with the black sport loop. I logged in last Friday at 3 AM EST and at first the item wouldn't come up. It took a few minutes, but I finally got the item to have the 'Pre-Order' button to work and I completed the form. It listed on the page at the time of the order that availability was 9/21. The confirmation e-mail came in at 3:29 AM EST and stated 'Will ship when available'.

My current order status has not changed since the order. It states 'In progress' as status with another message that states 'Will ship when available'. I called support for an update and received no information. I asked them why other stores are able to provide at least a date range and Best Buy doesn't. She had no response.

I feel like I place my order early. I'm curious why some see dates and some don't. I'm also curious if this is related to the order date/time and/or if it's related to the Elite status. In other words, is Best Buy fulfilling Elite Plus first? I am currently Best Buy Elite status.

As frustrating as the whole thing is, I don't feel it's worth it to cancel my order out of frustration. I would likely end up with a watch at the end of October. However, I am curious to confirm whether Best Buy is fulfilling orders in the order received or based on some other criteria. It won't help me with this order, but would impact my future orders.

Thanks for your concerns! :) I did cancel out of principle because if that's the best BB can do; I don't want to support them. BB wouldn't set expectations about the delivery time estimates even when I pinned them on the subject. One BB Rep stated they don't know how the preorder status works for Apple.

I just placed an order with Apple. Apple has always provided excellent customer service. The same can't be said for BB.

My guy said the order would update on 9/21 and I should see my SS within 10 days if not sooner.

Mine is a “we’ll notify you when it ships type”

He said the Best Buy was securing additional inventory from Apple.

Sounded legit... I even asked if he was guessing or could confirm... said confirm

I would think some would ship today unless they are using next day shipment.
 
They use next day for preorders. Sometimes 2 day, but overnight is possible in this case.
My friend spoke with Best Buy and they told him they would add tracking on the day of launch, even if your item is set to be delivered that day. Not sure if that's a Best Buy policy, or if Apple has some weird agreement with third-party sellers where they can't release shipping info ahead of time. Wouldn't put it past them to make Apple look like a better option for future orders.

BB told me the same thing about the tracking number being added on the day of the launch. This scenario makes it hard for the customer to plan his/her day to wait for a shipment. I rather deal with Apple directly than deal with a middle man - BB - and being caught in the middle.

This does fit in line with people seeing their shipment hit on My Choice, but not showing on Best Buy.

I agree that working with Apple is much easier. Even though they do the same thing with tracking (My phone has had a live tracking number since yesterday, but Apple still hasn't updated my order), it's a lot easier to track by reference number so you feel more in-control. If Best Buy, or any other retailer used their order numbers for tracking references, I would be more inclined to use them in the future. I think this will be my last time doing an Apple pre-order through them.
