Apple Cases

Do you know of a case with a higher front lip?
There are many, many cases with a higher front lip. I would say most TPU or any durability focused case has bigger front lip, as well as bigger all around. A few that come too mind are the Speck cases, Nomad etc.

The question is the lip to overall thickness ratio. Apple case does it best IMO, but the Caudabe is a good second, thinner all around by like 10%. Basically thin cases, but with decent front lips.

Ok I’ll have to look into it. The speck presidio looks to have a nice high lip. I wish diztronic still made their voyeur cases. Loved that case.

The main big issue I have is finding a case and screen protector combo that work. I’ve bought cases before and had them lift the edge of a screen protector which is annoying

Here are some belated pics:

The pitaka case is carbon, so it’s super rigid and strong. It’s probably going to protect the back of the phone better in the case of high force or torque, than the caudabe sheath. However it will also transmit more shock to the phone becasue its so rigid, which may be bad for internals. The Sheath is a TPU material, so much more shock resistant.

However, one key and fatal drawback of Pitaka is that there is NO lip for screen protection on the case, which is a total deal breaker for me, as I don’t use a screen protector.

The caudabe has the lip, so it’s safe face down on most surfaces and in pocket (with screen side OUT) prevents micro scratches and hazing of the oleophobic coating. Its not as deep of a lip as the apple silicone case, but thats the story with this case, which is about 10-15% thinner in every dimension from the apple silicone case. Except for the bottom of course, which has full coverage.

Hi, actually PITAKA has 2 versions of the case for you to choose: the most slimmest MagCase that is made from Aramid Fiber (Kevlar), and a more protective version MagCase Pro that is made from Kevlar and TPU, with higher lip and more shock-proof. Kindly check the link https://www.ipitaka.com/collections/magcase-for-iphone-xs-compare

Usually, the MagCase provides basic protection and it's quite aesthetic-pleasing, while the MagCase Pro offers solid protection, kindly check the drop test we made, whilst still lightweight.

You can choose the most suitable one accordingly, check them up if you want ;)

Kind regards
Sarah

Thanks for the update, I'm interested in the magcase pro for the Xs Max if it's available. You said it has a higher front lip for protection. I've read reviews stating a possible drawback is the sides aren't as tight around the phone which may be an issue when dealing with drops. Any idea if this is true, and if so has it been addressed with the new versions for the new iphones?

Hi! it's available for pre-ordering and will start to ship Sep. 24th. Now you can order it with a 10% discount till Sep. 24th, check it up as below.

Regarding the "sides aren't as tight around the phone"it really depends on the person who uses it, some people don't take it as a problem. But if you really care about this, please be assured that the new versions for the new iPhones come with tighter sides whilst being lighter in weight.

Any other questions, just let me know :)

Thanks for the response. This case does have a nice front lip? Even with a tempered glass screen protector? Any idea how high?

Yes, it does have a nice front lip! also, it has the edge-to-screen design in the bottom and side parts to enable a smoother swipe while you using your phone, though the corners are still higher.

The lip is 1.6mm higher than the screen. obviously, it will be still higher even with a tempered screen protector. for example, if you apply a 2.5D (a 2.5D screen protector is about 0.33mm) screen protector, it will still be 1.27mm higher than the screen.

Let me know if you want more detailed information about the case ;)

Would it support a 3d glass screen protector? Like one that encapsulates the entire screen?

As you know, a 3D glass screen protector usually covers all your phone screen, that's to say, any 3D glass screen protector is not suggested to be used with protective phone cases since the 4 corners of your phone are wrapped tightly.

So we'd not suggest you do so, neither MagCase Pro nor any other protective cases.

Sarah, what is the recommended screen protector to go with the mag case pro (XS Max).

I also have an additional unrelated question. Would you Magmount Qi be compatible with this base. I see that the ball joints appear to be about the same size

I know this is an apple forum, but having recently switched to the note9, is there any thought in making a note9 case?

Hi, we have customized tempered glass screen protector for the MagCase Pro Xs Max on our own site. check it here: https://www.ipitaka.com/products/ac...17962054&utm_source=Macrumors&utm_medium=taka It should be the best for the case.

Just checked the base you mentioned, it should be compatible with MagMount Qi (the ball joints are both around 17mm)

Let me know if you have any other questions ;)

Hi, it's fine to ask us questions anywhere anytime :)

Regarding the Note9 MagCase, it really depends on the market demands, it appears that most of the customers need Samsung S series more so we had to temporarily suspend the mass production of Note 9. we'll probably consider making more in next Spring.

Thanks for your question anyways.

Sarah,

Thank you very much for your quick feedback. I have decided on the Magcase pro.

I actually just noticed you guys have made some improvements over the one for the X like the flush sides for easier swiping and redesigned side grips, looks good.

Are the bottom speaker cutouts correct for how the new iPhone XS speakers are not symmetrical?

That’s my biggest worry with the Apple cases. I really like them otherwise.
I've had a Folio Apple leather on my iPhone X phone since I got it in Nov. My unfortunate drops tend to be getting into or out of car - no matter how I try not too - so 3-4 feet. The leather case is a little scuffed but not ugly- there's no frame coming thru like other leather cases. I don't see scratches on the space grey bottom. I have a Belkin glass screen protector with no dings or scratches (probably thanks to the folio).

I'm doing the Gold Xs Max this time - I hope I don't find it too big.
I'll do the leather case with a SFBags slip case to keep the screen protected in my bag. I did order a UAG Pylo which comes tomorrow and Element Rally - I'll try these to see if I like a clear case - but I want some protection which is why that vs. Caudible.

Yes, we added the function for phone lanyard usage except for the "flush sides for easier swiping and redesigned side grips".

Yes the bottom speaker cutouts are correct (like new iPhone XS speakers, they are not symmetrical)

You are most welcome to ask more question ;)

Blue horizon Apple silicone iPhone X/XS is beautiful #drooling

Are they Grippy? I'm looking for a smooth type of case that won 't slip out of my hands.

I have a Speck Grip but is kinda bulky and gets a little hard to get out of my pockets because of the raised edges.

1st, I don't know what TPU is...I'm after a smooth type case that is very grippy in the hand. Would the TPU material be more or less Grippy than an Apple Silicone Material?

Does lip size matter?

In looking to update my case inventory for my iPhone X, I only just noticed my former favourite thin case maker Shumuri went out of business sometime in 2017!
