Are you experiencing throttling after updating to iOS 14.5.1?

  • Yes, I am!

  • Nope, performance is the same.

No problem with the latest OS. On Geekbench 4 it is even faster than the average.

Apologies if this has been mentioned previously, but I don't have time to read through all the previous posts. I was seeing the poor GeekBench scores consistently on 14.5.1. I tried rebooting through the Settings menu has others have suggested, but that didn't work. However, I decided to try a hard restart last night and ever since then my performance has been great with consistently normal GeekBench scores. For those unfamiliar - on an iPhone without a home button, a hard restart can be performed by pressing volume up, then volume down, then holding in the power button until the phone reboots.

Same worked for me, have had consistent scores with geekbench 5 since last week. All at or above the average listed for the iPhone 12. iOS 14.5.1

I have tried the hard reset trick numerous times. The geekbench scores return to normal after a reboot, but if I test again a few hours later they are back down.

For those of you seeing consistent good scores, can you try doing three tests in a row, back to back, and post your results? Especially if your phone has been on for a few hours.

I've been rather unimpressed by the performance of my 12 Pro since I got it in December, to the point where I've been questioning if something is wrong with it, and if some of you are never getting low scores, I'm tempted to ask for a replacement device since I do have AppleCare+.

Of course it is. But the workloads of Geekbench 4 still are meaningful too. If there is throttling of any kind, it would impact GB 4 as well, right?
Yes, that is correct. It would impact both Geekbench 4/5 scores.

I have an 11 Pro Max 512GB and was amazed at how slow and glitchy it became after the update.
I finally did a fresh install which seems to have fixed the problem. I don't think it's any kind of throttling just a bad update. See my before and after Geekbench results below.

Doing a clean install fixed the throttling for me for a few days. Sadly the throttling has returned, and I have not restarted my phone since I did the clean install, so I have no idea why it is throttling again. :(

As you can see, for a few days, my scores were average. However, now they are low again but not as bad as the first time. I tried to do a hard reset to no avail; I am still having reduced performance.

Does your battery show peak performance under settings ?

Agreed yes.
But most people in this thread will be using GB5.
Initially I looked at your attachments and thought what the.....😧, then saw it was GB4.
So very confusing for people.

That's what this thread is about.....?
Personally it's not an issue for me, my iPad/iPhone are running normally, the problems seem to be with newer models.
If a benchmark tool is available, people will use it, and Geekbench is a tried and trusted app.

You know what. That's because of people like you, all versions of ios and become stupid and laggy. If you have no problems on the tablet, this does not mean that there are no more problems on other devices. We have already confirmed all the problems on both old and new iphone. Personally, I have a critical problem too

It seems I fixed my 12 Pro Max.
Try this: turn off the phone, leave it for a minute, plug in the charger, let it start normally
