we can now tell which tab is in focus in safari (something that was impossible yesterday). progress!

EDIT: it seems to be that safari looks better all around, and it's definitely opening pages faster (am assuming this is all beta related). also, a pages document just opened faster than it ever has before... related? anyway, good stuff...

I didn't even notice the tabs being the exact same color until I read your post about an hour ago hah. Just let the new beta download and update while I was outside doing some work, came back in and logged in, Safari so far is definitely moving nice and fast, and my tabs are different shades now! Some forums I regularly frequent (including this one) are loading pages almost instantly. Now my gigabit internet feels like gigabit almost.

Bummer my D16 plugins, and Exponential Excalibur and R4 still dont show up in Logic Pro (I just bought R4 and havent even gotten to use it yet!!). Hopefully those guys update their plugins eventually.

i had to revert to catalina on my logic X mac; a good number of plugins will need some work done by the developers to run in big sur (confirmed, for example by u-he; i use both zebra2 and hive). ugh, but... so it goes.

Still no rounded corners. I'm triggered.

Beta 8 has still the same SMB issues like in previous betas. I cannot transfer music files from my NAS using the music app. It lasts for ours. If I switch to AFP everything runs fine and fast.

less than 10s for a 1.5GB file here. are you sure your NAS does not enforce encryption?

smbutil statshares -a

  • SMB_VERSION - which SMB protocol version is active.
  • SIGNING_SUPPORTED - this means the server side supports signing, it does NOT mean signing is on.
  • SIGNING_ON - if “true” then signing is actually on for this connection

There was never a problem until BigSur. If I copy files from my Mac or the other way round it is very fast. Only if I want to transfer music files to my iPhone it does not work. With AFP no issues at all.

Bummer. Updated my 2015 iMac to the Public Beta 8 (from previous Public Beta) and now I get a Kernel Panic when trying to reboot. I am able to boot into Safe Mode, but that is obviously not a good solution. Tried searching for similar problems and fixes, but did not find any. Also, when downloading the first time, it failed when processing the update. The first download was about 3.6 GB. On the second attempt, it downloaded an 11.1 GB update, then installed up to the Kernel Panic. Just an FYI for others about the problems with Beta software. Yes, I know that is a possibility and was willing to take the chance. My next step is to reinstall Catalina from a backup.

Update: I downloaded the PB install on my MacBook, then created a bootable USB and used that to reinstall Big Sur. It installed version 20A5364e, which was the last stable version before Beta 8. Think I'll wait until Beta 9 to try again.

Does iPhone hotspot work for anyone on this newest PB? I can't seem to find my phone hotspot, even when I manually turn on personal hotspot from the phone.

I have the same issue. I don't see the hotspot like in Catalina. However, if I activate the hotspot on my iPhone, I'm able to connect to it from Big Sur.

Thanks! I guess I’ll have to try again and see if it works.

I might be too now. Just got a new rack last weekend and just finished putting everything together tonight and had to test it. Looks like the latest beta broke MOTU's driver, either that or my 828X just flat out died. The 828 is working fine as a standalone and still clocking the other two boxes connected so Im going with Apple on this one..

I do know that the following is a minor issue/feature suggestion; but it would be nice to have. In the Favorites Bar, why do I have to left-click in order to drop-down (view) websites within a Favorites folder? The drop-down list of websites should be automatically dropped-down (shown) by just hovering over a Favorites folder...

Supposedly beta 9 is now available: that probably means in 2 or 3 days here in the "arsehole" of Europe: Bulgaria.
I really should write a suitably offensive letter to Cook about discrimination.

Can't be that far. I assume they're going to release with the new phones and silicon Macs, I would assume GM after the event.

upcoming iPhone event? or the rumoured November apple silicone Mac event? 😊👀💻

No supposedly about it. It’s out.

I thought the rumours were that the silicon macs were coming at the iPhone event.

Doesn’t look like it, most of the top leakers are saying November, a few of them also said they’ll be having a another event in November for the silicone macs.
