Hey Guys, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop 2018 are working on Big Sur? These apps are 64bit and apparently works on Catalina. Does anyone confirm if it will work? Thanks!

For me, does not work Zoom app. The application does not request access to the camera and microphone. Dev beta 5. Although the Skype app has gained full access to both the camera and the microphone.

Solved. The problem of access is solved by enabling the SIP.

Further to the SMB kerfluffle...

I was reading on another site about this, and the comment was made that why should Apple support a Microsoft file sharing protocol. I didn't wholly agree, because both of the devices that I am trying to connect two are running Linux -- a WD My Cloud drive and a Raspberry Pi and SMB has been adopted generally as the default file sharing protocol.

However, the WD My Cloud already runs AFP, and I was able to install netatalk 3 on the RPi using the command
Code:
 sudo apt install netatalk

This is my version of the netatalk configuration file /etc/netatalk/afp.conf

Code:
; Netatalk 3.x configuration file
;

[Global]
; Global server settings

[Homes]
; basedir regex = /xxxx

; [My AFP Volume]
; path = /path/to/volume
[WDFiles]
path = /mnt/WDFiles
[Writings]
path = /mnt/Writings

valid users = pi

; [My Time Machine Volume]
; path = /path/to/backup
; time machine = yes

All I have done is to define the two shared volumes and the valid user.
I can now connect to my two file servers and automount the volumes at startup (hint - make aliases of the mounted volumes and then copy them into your Login items in Users and Groups)

I hope this might help others.

Had to tell Bitdefender to not protect my Time Machine backups. It wasn't able to do any backup until I turned that off.

Not working:

self created or downloaded .MP4 files will no longer auto launch in QuickTime yet instead AppleTV app defaults to opening and fails with an error.

sorry already formatted my MBP and restoring from Time Machine.

Also TimeMachine will not backup to previous HDD that was used for backups in Catalina.

That has not been true for me. Time Machine does backup to previous HDD.

My test Big Sur is alternately doing TM backups to two partitions on an external HDD. One partition is newly formatted APFS, the other is a previously existing HFS+ partition which has both old Catalina backups and new Big Sur backups.

No issues so far and the old backups continue to be visible in Finder and (since beta 6) in the fancy TM restore. The main oddity is that the old read-only system partition (which is not backed up with BS) continues to be visible to Finder in the folders containing BS backups.

Blackmagic Design Desktop Video Setup 11.6 does not seem to be working with Public Beta 5 or 6. Confirmed by others on Blackmagic's forum. This means no hardware will (currently) work. Example the UltraStudio Recorder series for SDI/HDMI input to Thunderbolt 2/3. The software sees the camera but crashes: Zoom, ECAMM Live, Microsoft Teams, QuickTime Player, Black Magic's own video capture software Media Express.

From Blackmagic:

As for this issue, your Mac has Big Sur OS, and the Desktop Video 11.6 version that you are using it is tested for macOS 10.14 Mojave, 10.15 Catalina systems,
possible that due to incompatibility with the OS of the system, this error is showing

Has anybody else had problems with opening .iso disk image files on BS ß6?
Some I can open, but others I can't. I get the message 'No mountable file systems'.

Even disk image files that I have created myself on a mac, I can't open.
I have verified that I can open those files under Catalina, so the files are good. It's just a problem with Big Sur. A good example is Win10_2004_EnglishInternational_x64.iso downloaded from the Microsoft web page. No problems opening on Catalina, but can't on Big Sur. (Like the initial Apple announcement, I keep on typing Bug Sur. I'm thinking it's more appropriate than I expected...)

Anybody have any ideas?

I have the same issue with Beta 6. It worked fine with Beta 5. I opened a ticket with Apple but haven't heard anything back. I hope they fix it before they release Big Sur!

oH! Strange cause big sur beta 3 recognized the time machine hdd backup yet would not initiate. Probably a minor bug.

Holden master released today so should be ready. I’ll not update thought right away. Learned with Catalina’s gripes from others even though not affecting me.

Big Sur 6 - balenaEtcher 1.5.108 no longer works. Can't write to a 64 GiB sdcard or flash drive. It tells me that my target drive is my source drive. Switched back to Catalina and it worked perfectly.

NFS mounting is so flaky it can't be used. I can mount an NFS share for a minute or so, then it disappears. But then, admittedly it was flaky under Catalina, so perhaps that isn't a new thing.

It appears that BS6 has borked a number of drive-related processes --
  1. balenaEtcher
  2. NFS
  3. Mounting ISO images
  4. Mounting SAMBA shares (we know the fix, but I simply added netatalk to my RPi and mount using AFP...)
I also find that I have to wait a minute or so after booting up to let BS6 settle down (reported to Apple via Feedback Assistant). If I do something complicated before that then multiple processes all run at about 30% of the CPU, making it impossible to so anything. Shades of Windows 10!!!

Also, it is Papua New Guinea's Independence Day today (September 16). PNG is 45 years old.
papua-new-guinea-flag-xs.png

My first introduction to the Macintosh world was then somebody in Port Moresby tried to sell me a Mac Lisa for $10,000, just after the Mac Plus had been announced. I declined.

PS, the yellow bird is a bird of Paradise, (Paradisaea raggiana) commonly known as a Kumul.
They are very closely related to the crow family, and very smart. As are parrots. I worked at a wildlife lab outside of Port Moresby. We had a Bird of Paradise in a large aviary next to a couple of Rainbow parrots. They were bored, so the B of P taught the parrots to display and the parrots taught the B of P to talk. Visitors were confused when the B of P said "Hello Cocky" and the parrots were doing a display...

I am still having issues with Google Drive File Stream. The problem is that the "allow" dialog in Preferences > Security > General never shows up. I am having the same problem with every Parallels update on Catalina and previous releases.

Same. I've tried soooo many things to get it to show up and nothing helps. I'm baffled, especially where there seem to be so many people it IS working for.

I think it's not related to Google Drive FS, but rather to macOS itself. I've had this issue with the "allow" dialog not showing up in security preferences with Cataline and even before. Not sure what's going on there. Very frustrating.

May have been reported here already, and I have done so via Feedback Assistant, as well.

On trying to join a Zoom meeting via the Zoom app, or using Chrome or Safari, I get the following crash report.

Process: caphost [16965]
Path: /Applications/zoom.us.app/Contents/Frameworks/caphost.app/Contents/MacOS/caphost
Identifier: caphost
Version: 5.0.26223.0603 (5.0.26223.0603)
Code Type: X86-64 (Native)
Parent Process: zoom.us [16958]
Responsible: zoom.us [16958]

Is Cisco AnyConnect for the Mac working? I hear mixed things. If it is working, what version of AnyConnect for the Mac, are you finding works?

Ahhh... finally. This beta feels less buggy than the rest have been. Everything that I've had that's been crashing seems to be pretty solid right now. Google Drive File Stream is finally working for real. Adobe Acrobat is working. Everything seems smooth. Been a rougher beta for a lot of the software I use than normal, so glad everything seems to be smoother on this one. #beta7forthewin

Big Sur 7 Notes
This is a relatively small update (only 3.7 GiB, not a full installer file), and took about an hour to download, prepare and update on my SSD drive. So start it going and go read a good book ( I can recommend Humble Pi by Matt Parker) while you are waiting.

Still borked --
  1. balenaEtcher
  2. NFS
  3. Mounting ISO images
Mounting SAMBA shares now works without the magic incantation.
