Had to change to Intego.
Viruscan Works but cannot enable it to work all the time.
The firewall works fine
Hey man, Thanks. I'll look at Intego. I'm suppose to automagically resubscribe to BitDefender all the stuff package in a few weeks but I haven't loaded it on the latest beta yet. KInd of scared it'll bork my smooth running system. No guys, I don't wanna restore. LOL. Anyho... thanks!

You've got Transmission as working.. It works, no crashes or anything, but it doesn't connect to anything or function for its intended purpose. Is there some kind of setting changes needed? (v 3.0)

AdGuard isn't working for me at all, browser extensions or otherwise. It's just not blocking anything.
Are you on nightly? It was working on and off for me. But had to disable it as it disabled DNS lookups intermittently.

Tried re-enabling the latest nightly, but it breaks YouTube so back off it goes.

I use macOS native VPN (System prefs > network...) to make a Cisco IPSec VPN connection. This is stable on Catalina. On Big Sur it's hit or miss (with DNS). This is what I observe:
  • I'm consistently able to get Connected
  • Resolving named addresses is the part that seems to be hit or miss. When I connect to VPN but then cannot reach URLs, I tested that I am able to ping internet IPs, just not named servers. I cannot find any pattern when it works or when it does not, it's just by trying several times to reconnect until it works
  • nothing is logged to /var/log/ppp.log nor I can find any related logs
  • output of 'scutil --dns' looks ok and is same when working vs. not working
Meanwhile, I have another L2TP VPN configuration that remains stable on Big Sur and it does log to /var/log/ppp.log

I'd appreciate any pointers, so far I have not found a solution nor a workaround other than reconnecting until it works.
About my post above, I found a temporary workaround when connected to VPN but DNS is not working:
  1. go to the VPN config
  2. go to "Advanced..."
  3. in "DNS Servers", add a nameserver from scutil --dns then "Apply"
Note: this is really a temporary workaround, it does not even workaround the issue persistently, it just beats alternative workarounds like rebooting or continually reconnecting to VPN until it works. After step #3 helps get connected, it's also possible to reverse out that step and stay connected. Regardless, the problem will come back and you'll have to make another change to get it working again. I sure hope Apple fixes this! I'm not confident though, they have already let other things about their built in VPN languish across releases.

Private Internet Access 2.4 app: split tunnel/port forwarding broken on Big Sur PB due to a depreciated "London Trust" kernel extension that it attempts to install when enabling port forwarding. If either option is enabled it leaks your IP. App functions properly when split tunnel/port forwarding turned off.

I'm running PIA v2.4 and split tunnel working fine. I don't use or even know how to use port forwarding so I don't have it checked.

This was broken since PB1 & still is in PB2, but only after clicking the box to request port forwarding. Since you don't know how to use it, you have likely never checked the box, which results in the kernel extension taking a dump and breaking functionality. If you've got it working... don't click it. 🤣

I don't know if anybody else has noticed, but Big Sur Beta 8 (20A5374i) is now out.
It downloaded in the background while I wasn't looking (probably faffing about on this forum...) and then prompted me to reboot and install. It didn't take too long to install, maybe about 15 mins, with a couple of reboots along the way.
I don't know at this stage what has been fixed.

...

Ok, it seems that more .iso images can now open under BSß 8.
balenaEtcher still doesn't work.
NFS is still a basket case.

Malwarebytes and Dropbox have betas that finally work with Big Sur. Those were my remaining two incompatible programs.

That sucks. I just found out about this last night running an IP. Glad I found it out fairly early.
Do you know it’s something fixable? I’m reading online that Apple has moved away from kernel extensions which might mean the functionality needed to do split tunnelling might not be possible (given what I assume is some pretty low level access to enable it).

It's the "London Trust" extension they use. When you enable those two options in PIA under Catalina, you don't even realize that the PIA app is installing anything. It's not something Gatekeeper catches, except in Big Sur. Kinda sneaky. However, Big Sur does allow some newer type extensions. They are not totally verboten. Like the Intel Power Gadget for system monitors. It loads with the "open Security & Privacy pane" Gatekeeper warnings to authorize them just like in Catalina. PIA's is clearly one of the old legacy type extensions that Big Sur is not going to allow. As for a fix, nope, gotta wait until PIA updates this one I think.

About AnyConnect, is this a VPN client one can choose instead of the built-in solution?:
Network > VPN > Cisco IPSec

Above a few posts ago I mentioned how Network > VPN > Cisco IPSec was not working perfectly (DNS issue), this however was based upon my pre-PB8 experiences...

Since updating to PB8 today, Network > VPN > Cisco IPSec works great!! Now I'm ready to update my work Mac to Big Sur as soon as the GM drops 👍

On a side note: I prefer Cisco IPSec (or other OS supported protocols) to have independence from installing a separate VPN client.

  • GPG keychain (GPG Tools / Suite) not working. Hangs when attempting to open app. **EDIT - Totally borked GPG suite install, attempting to load the preference pane GPG item, hangs. PB8
  • Native Access (Native instruments updater tool) not working. Tried to update, failed. Now unable to start at all *EDIT - Re-downloaded from NI website worked. Self updating appears to be broken, though.
  • NordLocker doesn't work, unsupported OS message on latest version. Also unable to quit app, needed to use Activity Monitor to force quit after update.
  • Snap Camera broken. Hangs on startup.
  • Unison 2.2 working (surprisingly!) For those of you who still use newsgroups 😁

A few anomalies experienced whilst checking apps....such as, opening an app and another totally unrelated app also opening.

Have a ton of audio related apps and plug-ins to check through, but will leave that for another day.

Any IntelliJ / PyCharm users? If I go to Add Confirguration... > Templates > Python & add a Script path in either IntelliJ or PyCharm on Big Sur PB8, the app crashes.
