Was anyone able to upgrade to the full version with Big Sur RC2?
I was able to do an upgrade from 11.0.1-20B55022a to RC2-11.0.1-20B28 with no problems. It took about 25 minutes on an SSD.
However, it didn't seem to be as stable as I wanted. Just niggly little things that sometimes happen when you do an substantial update on top of another update.
So, I downloaded the full installer and, as I mentioned above, did a full install on an external Fusion drive. This is been incredibly stable, allowing me to do multiple things at once without them tripping over each other, like download files, updating other files, running Virtual Machines (Parallels), copying to and from my local server all simultaneously. No, it wasn't super fast, but my iMac is getting on a bit, like it's owner, and we are both a bit creaky, but still functional.
I will be running this version for a few weeks, and then might make the full transfer from Catalina to Big Sur. I have never been particularly happy with Catalina. It reminded me a bit of Vista, which was a trial run for Win 7. It seems Catalina was Apple's Vista, with a lot of good ideas, but which weren't implemented properly. Big Sur seems to have got them right.
Anyway, if you can, I would recommend a clean install from the full 11.0.1-20B28 installer, rather than incremental updates. It just seemed to work better for me.
BTW, I just noticed that there is a new version of Big Sur up, build 20B29 as well as 20B28. Does anybody know what the difference is?
