Hi, I did a quick search here but wanted to make a comment about VMWare Fusion.

VMWare moved to V12 so that it did not use Kernal Extensions and used Apple APIs in Big Sur only. For Catalina it continues to use Kernal Extensios.

I have/had Big Sur installed on 3 machines (2020 MBA, 2020 13" MBPro, 2019 16" MBPro) and 4 VMs which worked fine on VMWare 11 on Catalina. These VMs are various level of W 10 Pro (1809, 1903 and 2004) and all have network issues. One of the VMs would not connect to the network adaptor (Ethernet) and the standard terminal command fix (from the VMWare blog/forum comments) does not work to fix it. The others are more nuanced. They connect to the network (usually via a bridged connection) but MS Windows update cannot find the update server, my browser (Edge, Chrome or Firefox) cannot reach my email server but I can get to Verge, MacRumors etc. VPN connections do not work. It looks as if the NAT is not working, but I cannot verify this.

Bottom line is I have moved my 16" MBro back to Catalina (via Time Machine) and am back to using Catalina with V11 VMware and all VMs work. At this point I have to mark VMWare Fusion 12 as a non working solution for Big Sur. I also tried Parallels 16.0.1 and it has the same problems which leads me to think that Big Sur is the problem. If people have other observations or I have missed an obvious fix, happy to be corrected.

Fusion works fine for me on my Mac Pro: windows update has just installed some updates and I haven’t had an issue connecting to any site

1. Tor Browser works, at least version 10.0.4

2. Amazon Music App for Mac crashes my iMac 2019 every single time.
Funny enough, the Amazon Music app did run, directly after upgrading to Big Sur. But since then, I can't even get it to open.

I HATE this OS. First, you can't clear the history in Safari. Worst of all it is making the fans run on my MacBookPro. I will use FireFox until Apple straightens this mess out. Also what is with taking the battery percentage and moving it into System Preferences? They should have left that alone! Now I have to go into System Preferences to check the Battery? A pain in the a * *. Because of the pandemic hold times are awful and I can't make a Genius appointment. I am so sorry I installed this OS. It is horrible!!

Interesting. After upgrading to Big Sur, the fans on my iMac certainly ramp up more frequently than under Catalina. I rarely noticed the fan noise before, but now it is very noticeable.

Odd. I have VeraCrypt running with FUSE v3.11.2

EDIT: Thank you. I must have had something borked originally and then I probably misunderstood the release notes for FUSE and thought only 4.x worked with Big Sur. I nuked it, installed 3.11.2 and all is well.

You didn't have to do anything? I started a thread at the veracrypt forum. It doesn't seem to get a lot of traffic, but 3 others have replied having the same problem. But, I think they all tried the 4.x series. Mine threw errors which is why I even tried 4.x.

I still have a Catalina system that works, so if I really get in a bind, I can temporarily create Apple encrypted disk images. I like veracrypt because I can switch between Mac OS and MS Windows.

Wish I could say the same. Here is what I found:

1. Big Sur, VMWare 12: One VM could not connect to the ethernet networking adapter. Turn it on and it was removed on starting up the VM. No network connection, otherwise VM ran as expected. 3 VMs ran and appeared to connect to the internet and network, but I could not run my VPN (Barracuda), could not connect to the MS update server, could not open my email client in Chrome/Firefox/Edge. A command line fix on the VMware Fusion blogs did nothing to fix it.
2. Catalina, VMWare 12: Nothing but broken pipe messages and no VMs upgraded to VMWare 12 would run. I ensured I had the security option open under System Preferences since I have found that sometimes an extension cannot be installed and you get no warning or Allow prompt in the security settings (OWC Softraid was like this).
3. Catalina, VMWare 11: Original VMs before upgrading to VMWare 12, all ran without problems and as expected. VPN connected, update server working etc.
4. Big Sur, Parallels 16.1.0: VMs exhibited exactly the same problem as under VMWare 12.

All running on the same network in bridge mode using a 2029 16" MBPro. Catalina 10.15.7 or Big Sur 11.0.1.

So I removed Big Sur and have taken it out of production and all my work and production machines are on Catalina, until I can determine whether Big Sur needs a fix or VMWare/Parallels need a fix. Big Sur has, so far, wasted 2 days of my time and I do not intend to spend any more time trying to debug what is obviously a problem over which I have no control.

LittleSnitch 5.0.2 - States it works with Big Sur but I can't open the app (rules/preferences). The window closes immediately but it is running on the menu bar and I do get notifications from being in Alert mode. Anyone experience the same behavior?

Unfortunately, it's typically the case that with the first few versions of a new Mac OS, it has numerous bugs that take some time to resolve. Myself, I typically do not move (via a clean installation) to the new Mac OS until the .2 or .3 version arrives. By that time, most of the issues are resolved, and just as critical, all my third party applications are compatible by that time.

That really makes me question the credibility of that site. Parallels version 16.1 is compatible in official statements by Parallels, any prior releases are not. They have a detailed log of issues they started during the Big Sur beta, and only a couple things are outstanding, which includes issues reported here. Parallels 14 is over 2 years old, that's very questionable that it would work for any but the lightest use cases - version 14 came out before Mojave!

That really makes me question the credibility of that site. Parallels version 16.1 is compatible in official statements by Parallels, any prior releases are not. They have a detailed log of issues they started during the Big Sur beta, and only a couple things are outstanding, which includes issues reported here. Parallels 14 is over 2 years old, that's very questionable that it would work for any but the lightest use cases - version 14 came out before Mojave!

Firefox tabs now crash regularly on beta 4. Not always, but often enough to be quite annoying. Using Firefox 80 (dev channel).

I'm on the offiicial new release and am getting a crash every few hours. Might be having too many tabs open... Anybody else getting crashes with Firefox and Big Sur?

Please note that 7.0.0.3 is the latest version while version 6 is the latest stable version. So LibreOffice will consider you up to date if you have the latest version of 6.x

Has anyone else uploaded HDR video they recorded on their iPhone 12 to Youtube and noticed that Chrome does not display it right? It's too bright, all blown out (so probably not showing SDR). But viewing the same video with Safari works great. Also viewing the video on an HDR capable TV works as expected (actually it looks really amazing). The Chrome issue is only happening on my Big Sur machine. I have others running Catalina that work fine.

Please note that 7.0.0.3 is the latest version while version 6 is the latest stable version. So LibreOffice will consider you up to date if you have the latest version of 6.x

I've been using V7.0.3 since it was released on both of my Macs running the latest version of Catalina, OS 10.16.7, and it runs flawlessly. If Big Sur was more stable, and a couple of other of my critical apps were compatible, I would use V7.0.3 without hesitation.
