Similar problem on 13 inch ver, twice display replacement. It seems similar things will happen again on the third screen in the same region. Oh by the way I always use it to do heavy works, including numerical calculation (usually it takes hours to diagonalize a lot of big matrices) and sometimes gaming. But i don’t believe this is the reason, because what I did is pretty common for a pro laptop. I had 4 iPhones including iPhone X, 3 iPads including the new iPad pro and 2 MacBook Pros since 2012. Except for this new MacBook Pro, no issues happened to any other devices. I don’t know why the new MacBooks has such worse display quality.

Any chance he would be willing to post it here?

Sorry, but I don't think he would like to post it here. However yesterday, he started to notice a similar issue on that replaced screen. The problem is that the laptop is out of warranty now, so they are asking $900 for a replacement (no Apple retail stores in my country, just some APRs and those are very non-friendly).

My gosh, it's a nightmare. He was one of the most passionate Apple fans I know and now he started to looking for a Windows laptop. $3500 dollar computer that you can't use even 2 years without any issues.

My Macbook Pro 2018 also suffered from Bluish Spot Problem.
Macbook Pro 2018 i9 -
Purchased on Aug-2018
3 months later - Nov 2018 - Bluish Spot Left bottom, Display was replaced.
4 months later - Mar 2019 - Bluish Spot Left bottom spreads to the top and to middle. Display was replaced.
2 months later - May 2019 - Bluish spot Left Bottom. Display going to be replaced.
Never had problems with keyboard with my macbook 2018.
I also own Macbook Pro 2016 and experienced keyboard failure twice.

I suspected the Bluish Spot happened because of the heat, as I often use my macbook Pro with external display in a "Close-Clamshell Mode".

It seems that original location of Bluish Spot has always been at the hottest location where location of CPU and GPU.

Update: After living with the blue stains for 6 months now, I have encountered something even worse. There was a similar forum to this one but the stains on OP's s mac were orange. Now, the blue stains on my mac are still there but orange liquid behind the screen seems to move depending on which position the laptop is left. they are not always present but appear often. gotta love apple.

I haven't had the blue spots on mine, but have had green spots appear on the screen when areas are black/black-ish. Usually noticeable when I'm watching a video. It happens across various apps, and affects videos and images. Screenshots too.
The technician I've been speaking with said it's a software issue, but it's happened again on a brand new installation of macOS on a new volume...
So not sure

A friend of mine had this issue on his 2016. This MacBook Pro had already had the display assembly replaced for keyboard marks (as well as some marks that he caused...but the genius was nice and just mentioned the keyboard marks and covered it under AppleCare) and the replacement started developing these. He said they happened when it got hot. They replaced the display assembly again, (as well as the logic board and IO boards due to ports that were malfunctioning) and so far, so good. Seems like heat might be what causes it. If you have this model, maybe don't run it in clamshell mode...

I know that's not a fix for what is faulty design, but it may help you avoid a costly repair or, even if it's covered under AppleCare, a repair that could take a few days to a couple of weeks...

My MBP 13 (2018 model) now also has these blue spots and they get worse over time.

It seems that the blue spots are caused by heat? I rarely used my MBP in clamshell mode. When I am travelling I protect the screen with a microfiber cloth (called iSaver in case you are interested) which should also prevent too much residual heat diffusing to the display while the MBP is sleeping. So I wonder whether maybe pressure would also cause these blue spots? I first noticed the spots after I took my MBP on a short flight.

Any news or comments would be welcomed as my MBP will run out of warranty in about two weeks. I will certainly get the current display replaced but what when the spots develop again in 10 months with the replacement?

My MacBook Pro 2016 never had problem with display but replaced keyboard 3 times.
My MacBook Pro 2018 never experienced keyboard problem but replaced the display because of blue spots problem 3 times.

I just received my MacBook Pro 2019 for 2 months. Dunno what kind of problem it would have.

Has the blue spots problem occurred in the 2019 model as well, or does it seem to be fixed now?

I would be interested whether the blue spots are mainly caused by heat or by pressure? The Apple Service person said it is mainly caused by pressure and microfiber cloth would only make the issue worse... Not sure if I should believe him... My spots are mainly in the area around the arrow keys and the trackpad. The area is spreading now to the more left side and getting worse. Display will likely be replaced sometime in August....

took my 2018 for service again at the weekend on the last day of its warranty coverage. I have had a blue spot start right in the centre of the screen 4 times now. Stored in the same bag with the same peripherals as my 2016 (which never suffered the display problem in 2 years). When its returned it will be going on eBay. I bought a 2019 as a last throw of the dice to see if it is free of both keyboard and display defects, if it isn't, I suppose that is then a foray into windows land, which hopefully I can avoid!!!

I'll be sure to post here if my 2019 develops this problem... I'm half expecting it to, I haven't read anywhere that the display is any different, but equally my 2016 never suffered with this.

I have the same problem, MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018), though the blue spot is very faint. Will observe and watch this thread... :)

As someone who now has this issue for the second time, I honestly doubt it's caused by heat because it would be in the entirely wrong spots, as far as I can tell. At least, I can't imagine that heat is the main cause here, maybe it's a contributing factor.

The problem I see with heat as a cause is that the area of the top case that always gets the hottest for me (by far!) is the metal above the Touch Bar, right below the hinge. If you look at some screenshots of the internals, that's also where a lot of heat seems to be dissipated due to the cooling system. But the spots appeared for me right in the middle of the display, about where the space bar meets the trackpad if you close the lid. This seems to be the affected area for many other people aswell, judging by this thread.

This area is always comfortably cool when working on my MBP, even during more performance-intensive tasks. Unsurprisingly so, since the area below it seems to be mostly occupied by batteries, not by energy-intensive chips or heat pipes. Now this area might get slightly hotter when the lid is closed, but I can't imagine that heat affects this particular area of the display so much when the areas of the display that frequently get significantly hotter (namely, the ones that touch the above-Touch Bar area) remain completely unaffected. Which makes heat a very unlikely cause.

I can't make any good educated guesses on what is the root of the problem – pressure would sound plausible to me, as you'd expect the pressure on the display to be the highest right in its' middle (where the spots are for me), but it could just aswell be something else completely. Either way, I'm starting to be glad that I purchased AppleCare with my machine, as my normal warranty would run out sometime soon. I'm afraid I have no choice but to bring it in a second time and hope for a swift replacement. I'm a little worried that the issue might appear again after that – or that it may reappear when my 3 years of AC-warranty are over.

Not something I expected when I bought this machine – if anything, I expected to run into keyboard issues due to all the reports about it, but the keyboard has been working flawlessly for me and I've actually come to like typing on it. This issue on the other hand seems to get very little coverage in comparison (which probably means that not many people are affected by it), which makes me all the more surprised and concerned that it happened to me twice now.

Usually it started as faint and then spread to other places.

My Macbook Pro 2018 has always started blue spot at the left bottom of the screen and then spread to the top.
Now is the 2nd month of owning my new Macbook Pro 2019, will see if such problem would appear. My Macbook Pro 2016 has never had this problem only 2018.
If in the next few months my 2019 doesn't have blue spots problem then, this would be very strange.

Thank you for your evaluation of the problem. The spots on my display also started right in the middle in the area around the arrow keys and trackpad.

Maybe a microfiber cloth between the display and the body of the MBP also increases the overall pressure? I always thought that it would be a good idea as pressure is likely being distributed across the display and not focused at particular spots....

Mine always started right in front of where the apple badge is on the back of the laptop, like a horizontal oval blob to begin with, that gets darker and wider over time. it spends its time in a foam padded sleeve in my bag in transit, no pressure on it. Used Monday to Thursday as a laptop, open screen on a desk, Fridays clamshell mode on my desk at home. I can't think of a situation aside from poor construction that leads to this occurring.

Hey signed up here to show you that I've the same problem with my MBPro 15 2018. But today there is also a red yellow spot. I go tomorrow to the Genius Bar in Hamburg. 14 days warranty left. I think I need the protection plan..

Good thing it happened now and not shortly after the warranty ran out.

You can't buy Apple Care now, but I think the warranty will be extended by 90 days or so due to the repair. I could be off a bit though so ask Apple when you're there.

In Germany its possbile to buy the Apple Care Protection Plan in the first year. So it's not the same like Apple Care+. The normal warranty is one year, with the protection plan 3 years.

Apple Care+ is only available in the first 60 or 90 days. IDK exactly. I'm verry happy to know that I'm not alone with this problem. BTW my couson told me five minutes ago he had the same problem but it disappears after one hour. Normally they should offer one year warranty for a new display, but only for the display.

Nice. Yeah I would consider adding it in that case.

I don't think they warranty the a warranty repair the same as if you paid out of pocket for the repair length wise.

The annoying thing is it costs 349€ with tax. But a new display 600€ - 700€ . So it's an easy decision
