I agree... I think it's clearly happening with enough 10.5's to warrant attention from Apple. But we simply don't have enough information to say whether this issue literally exists with ALL units, or even a majority.

I get the thinking that because it happens in the same spot, that all 10.5s must be affected, but it could just be that the design makes this issue PRONE to occurring, with manufacturing variations or individual usage patterns determining whether or not the spot appears on a particular unit.
I mean I have until January to decide if I want to return the one I got in favor of a 2018 but those seem to have their own issues with bending and touch sensitivity, so it’s like pick your poison! Plus I really don’t want to have to buy all new accessories for a more expensive iPad. Plus this iPad looked great right out of the box. Doesn’t seem worth it to return an otherwise great tablet.

hadn’t noticed until reading this thread just now but yes there is a bright spot at the exact same spot as you guys, iPad bought late 2017. Sigh. Right now it’s not worth the hassle but if it gets brighter I’ll get it replaced under EU 2 year warranty.

Now as you know that the spot is there, you will see it always. Believe me :)

FYI guys - the “trade in” folks like gazelle are well aware of this issue and in my experience will not continuance a reasonable cash offer for an IPad with this problem.

I sent mine (256GB LTE 10.5) off for an agreed price of £350 (£899 new!). When they received the iPad they sent some photos of the bright spot and said it was a very, very commom problem. They knocked the price down to £200. I ended up having to pay for the postage back.

Wow. Sorry to hear that, but what more proof do people need that is is a serious and wide spread issue.

For those with lots of warranty coverage left, I would just keep it. The 2018 Pros are not really enough of an improvement and who knows what issues they will develop beyond the bending. I’m going to be sending the 11pro back soon enough and keep my 10.5 and try to get it repaired through Discover. Not looking forward to that.

Wow…
Just recognized this morning, that I have a small area on my screen which is much brighter than the rest.
At first I thought it is caused by some dirt on the display, but cleaning didn’t help.
So, I searched for „white spot iPad Pro“, which brought me here…
Never thought that it is such a severe and common issue :(

Unfortunately, I’m out of warranty since 4 months :(
This sucks!

It’s probably gonna take another massive lawsuit for Tim the beancounter to do anything about this

Yeah but this is going to prevent my enjoyment of the thing always looking for this issue now, makes me wonder if I should’ve gotten a used 9.7 Pro instead.

EDIT - On the other hand, I’ve been checking out Swappa listings for the 10.5, and I don’t see any with this spot on them so far. Granted some could be warranty replacements and that fact isn’t disclosed in the listing, but that aside I don’t see any with spots. I’m going to be bringing in my Air 2 to Apple for an out of warranty replacement soon (because I love the Air 2 AND the leather Smart Cover so much and it doesn’t fit on an iPad 6), while I’m there I’ll ask if they’ve seen this 10.5 issue. I got it at Best Buy so I’ll slip in that I’m thinking about returning it there to buy a 2018 Pro (I’m not, I’d rather wait on a second gen iteration of the new designs) so I don’t get a cookie-cutter answer to the effect of don’t worry about it etc. etc.

EDIT 2 - So I just finished going through all the current Swappa listings, WiFi and cellular, and while a few had their displays off or on the home screen so it was hard to tell, the majority had a shot of the settings screen or the welcome screen, and of those I saw a grand total of one with the spot. So that’s a good sign?

I noticed the same thing in my iPad Pro 10.5 a month or so ago as well. I attributed it to carrying it to and from work in my laptop bag but now that I'm seeing so many others chiming in, I'm not so sure. For reference it is the wifi 256 GB model.

I emailed MacRumors tips with some evidence found around the forums here, and they were awesome enough to immediately put up a story on this! https://www.macrumors.com/2018/12/19/ipad-pro-2017-home-button-bright-spot/

I also submitted feedback to Apple linking that story and some threads around the web. I hope something can come of all this. I’ve decided to keep mine because I just love the form factor, and apparently there’s nowhere to really go - the 2017 12.9 gets it, the 2016 9.7 apparently can get it, and there’s no telling yet if the 2018s get it but with their flimsy construction it seems likely.

Wow good job! It’s not front page, but a good start to get the word out.

The funny part of the story is that one of Macrumors 10.5 Pro is shown in the photograph wth the issue LOL.

I think you are pretty safe being that you have plenty of warranty left, and Apple has at the very least been helping in-warranty customers (as outlined in the blog article).

Another real plus is that the 10.5 has 4 gigs of ram. It actually has more usable RAM than the 11Pro! 3.91GB vs 3.68GB.

That’s the thing, for me the 10.5 is like the perfect iPad, but this display stuff constantly looms over it.

I have the 10.5 since launch, use it everyday, specially for drawing. Luckly I don’t have any bright spot.

Sorry guys this is where I get off. The brand new 10.5 Pro that I got apparently came with 96% battery capacity out of the box and it was draining abnormally fast. Rather than exchange for another one to worry about I decided to jump ship and grab the 2018 11”. Amazing device!

Seemingly, have this problem for months, After reading the 17 pages, I made a apt with Apple support tonight.
Yesterday evening talked to the Apple support guy. Explained the problems to him. Initially he wanted to charge me S$68 service charge, but after much negotiations and consultations with his supervisor, I will have a replacement at no charge. BTW my ipad is still under the AppleCare+ warrranty.

I have an approx 1in spot on my iPad Pro screen which is brighter than the rest of the screen - it's unevenly lit. The spot is about 2in above the home button, and although it has soft edges, I'm anal about my gadgets, and the difference in brightness could be described as 'minor', it's clearly there. It looks a bit like a pressure spot or similar. I always keep it in a case with a screen protector and the Smart Keyboard, so it's well looked-after.

I can't find much about similar issues online - anyone heard anything similar? I have a Genius Bar appointment later in the week to see what Apple think (spending £800 on an iPad means I pretty much expect it to still be perfect within the warranty period).
[doublepost=1545481960][/doublepost]Hi,

i have the same problem, l purchased my IPad Pro 10.5 through a Telstra plan, I returned my iPad through Telstra and after them sending the IPad to an Apple agent they replaced it with a new one, the consumer laws here in Australia gives us further protection than Apples warranty.

But guess what after six months my replacement iPad Pro now has the same issue, a small white Spot about an inch out from the home button, our laws here also states that after receiving the replacement iPad you are also entitled to a further 12 months warranty, so I’m going through the same process again, I believe it is a design problem also I found by pressing on the home button edge side only, close to the edge I get a white pressure spot that disappears after you take your finger off, tested the other three edges of the screen and no problem, it appears there it a fault in design on that side of the screen, I do agree Apple are getting a bad name especially when they don’t act ethically on genuine hardware issues, given Apple reputation from the past especially when the original founder was alive, he had a strict religious reputation of giving nothing but the best, this is being destroyed now by Apples representatives response to genuine issues that they need to step up to the plate and do the right thing , it’s a pity as the competition has gained ground in their technology and are equal if not more advanced with quality and reliability of their products, so if Apple doesn’t do the right thing by it loyal supporters it might find them leaving in droves to it’s competition.

That’s interesting. Generally shows up on the belly button area in portrait , above home button like 6” or whatever

Just to inform others and follow this thread.
I had it twice now, iPad Pro 10.5 same spot as everyone above the home button.
First time they gave me a new iPad. Yesterday I got my second one back repaired.
It is still under warranty but I hope it doesn't happen a third time.

My 10.5” has developed a bright spot 2” above the home button. This is a replacement iPad, manufactured in July 2018, for a launch day iPad with a faulty battery. I’ll demand a replacement with my AppleCare+ as soon as my schedule allows it. Damn you, Apple.

Wow. Apple's QC is ridiculous these days. BOTH their new sized Pro models have issues. White spots and bending.
