The design of the board is different, if there is a white spot, it is in another place. Hopefully not.

The 10.5” tear down is interesting - I was expecting to see the A10X directly under this bright spot people are reporting, or perhaps part of the battery that’s swelling, but it’s neither - if it’s any particular component it appears to be the NAND flash memory.

I wonder if there is any correlation between those having/not having this issue and the amount of memory they have?

I think I read somewhere in another forum that the white spot somehow shows whenever he pushes the home button. Though I can't confirm this since my iPad is currently being held at the service center for repairs for this same reason.

Let's see if it affects the new IPP, I hope not and I think it's the Wi-Fi chip that makes the problem, I suspect heat as the cause of the problem.

Warranty ended 2 months ago and the white spot just appeared for me. Took it into the Genius Bar and I was told I have to pay $579 to get it fixed (replaced).

I told them that I shouldn't have to pay because it's a known issue (I showed this thread) I shouldn't have to pay for a defect that's arisen in so many similar iPad Pro 10.5s. Genius wasn't having it and said my warranty expired so I either have to pay or I'm SOL.

What a joke Apple support has become.

It’s cut and dry, either you have warranty to cover it, or you don’t and have to pay repair fees. Maybe try a different store? They probably put notes on your account though

I experienced the same as yours. Apple QC is going ridiculous right now....

Did you put this ipad on a CC? Some CC offer 2nd year warranty. If you did check with your CC

I just took my 10.5 into Apple with the bright spot issue, thankfully device still has warranty till February.

Showed them it, Genius got manager, manager replaced on the spot. They claimed it wasn't a known issue however I'm skeptical as I didn't have to do any pleading with them (Wasn't expecting a replacement, would've been happy with a fix). Hoping they do a repair programme for it as there's way too many people with the exact same issue for it to be anything but a defect in the devices.

What would the repair be? Seems to be like all they are doing is swapping them out for a different (new or refurbished) 10.5" device.

I have a suspicion that it is a known unknown problem. When I took my out-of-warranty device in, the Genius immediately knew that it would need to be replaced when he saw the white spot.

I have the same problem too. I thought at first was a pressure point but some of the pictures floating around it is in the exact same spot as everybody else’s. Super annoyed! Clearly a design flaw. Should have gotten the extended warranty.

I am hesitant to upgrade to the 11 given the “subtle deviations” but I don’t know how much longer can stare at the pressure spot. Distracting.

After a year today I was reading a book and noticed a small brighter dot at the bottom left corner (while on portrait mode), which led me here.
I realise that this is in a different location than where most of you reported to have spotted it. Mine does not have one there.

I am a perfectionist when it comes to electronic products so most imperfections bother me. That is why I got Apple Care. This is indeed a lot smaller than what I saw from pictures posted by others. I am sure most people would not even notice it. It’s generally not noticeable, unless it’s a white/beige background with full light on. It’s a couple of millimetres wide.
You can see it here: https://ibb.co/f4xzWHC (I also attached the picture on this post).
- edit - I have just looked at the picture again, and in real life is much more noticeable than shown by the picture.

That said, now that I know it’s there, I do notice it.
Given the bright spot above the home button (much larger than mine) seems to be affecting many, I was thinking I’d just keep this and reassess at a later stage (I have 12 more months of Apple Care).
Any suggestions are welcome.

Is this something that comes up when apple support run a diagnostic test online (not at the apple store)?

Writing to remember everyone to post your experiences on http://apple.com/feedback/ so they'll see we're legion (^^)

Also, I've just submitted the documents starting the extended warranty process for my iPad Pro. The credit card and insurance companies will review them and, hopefully, I'll get the money to replace it.

Fingers crossed.

Anyone in NL in Amsterdam tried to get their iPad replaced within the 2 years warranty? What was the result of meeting the Apple Genius?

I got mine replaced out of warranty. Mine was bought in the U.S so it had only 1 year. I called Apple support and documented the issue a week before the warranty expired. I live in a country without physical Apple Stores. Since I was visiting Europe I went to the store in Amsterdam. They checked the issue and read Apple’s support notes and replaced my iPad without any questions. The problem started with the replacements, I went through 3 replacements due to dead pixels or dust under the screen. Replacements are refurbished units, the last one was perfect and I kept it. It was made on December of 2018. Hopefully, the bright dot won’t show up anymore.

Hello everyone!

I am one of the hundred(s) iPadPro10.5 owners with the same problem. I am on my 3rd(!) replacement device (2nd year covered by European Consumer Law) and I am trying to solve the problem once and for all...which means I am going to claim for a refund. Because the white spots are not a cosmetic issue only, they are affecting the touch responsiveness also (at some point).

Since it is an obvious production flaw, I don't want to lose any more valuable time dealing with Apple Support...Service departments...emails (back and forth)...factory ressetings...app/files re-installing and replacing devices untill warranty and consumer laws won't cover me anymore.

I am professional musician and this is not an acceptable procedure for an expensive and "high end" device like this (marked as "Pro"). So I believe a class action against Apple is the only solution.

Anyone interested?

So what really causes it? I had a impact mark on my previous iPhone which was caused by blunt force trauma (stabbing a key on the screen really hard) and the bright spot only showed up on dark or black backgrounds/video. This one seems different as it shows up on white or lighter backgrounds.

Last question -_-;

--how does the spot look under a black background? Is it invisible?

The issue is (most likely) caused by:
1) the glue that holds the screen of the iPad gets loose and white spots/light bleeding starts to appear and get worse + touch responsiveness gets deteriorated over time.
2) the usage of led instead of oled panels.

The bright spots are not caused by user misshandling of the device. It's a hardware/production flaw and they are visible ONLY on white backgrounds.

Just discovered this thread as my iPad Prop 10.5" seems to be slowly developing the issue...

I think Apple will eventually fix it for us for free, but later. Essentially each issue with a product seems to be met with an initial denial phase, and after some time (and ever growing threads like this one) someone higher up in Cupertino figures they cannot keep saying everything is fine. See laptop keyboard issues for instance. Or several instances of graphics card issues.
What is frustrating is the amount of time and energy it takes to get issues acknowledged and addressed. And also that, if you buy an iPad Pro and expect to use it for four years, but have to wait one year or two in the middle for some issues to be acknowledged and fixed, it effectively reduces quite a bit the usefulness of the product in the first place...
