People who are out of warranty need to stop paying Apple to repair this design flaw. Speak to a manager, make a stink out of it at the store, call senior advisors, escalate to customer relations. We all know that Tim Cook won’t do crap until a class action lawsuit hits him
Thats what I want. Really. But we can't create a lawsuit unless many IPP 10.5 users reporting their screen spot issue worldwide. Another problem is this issue usually acknowledged by the user after 1 year out of their warranty. Also Apple releases their new IPP 11 and 12.9 gen, which lower the sales of the 10.5 more. Seems difficult for us to sue Apple for this. I hope there is a miracle for this screen design issue.

Btw, I just came to the Genius Bar and the guy who talked with me is kind of funny but spoke the reality about this problem. It seems he acknowledges this issue but he can't do anything about it. He said to me, "If you want to replace your iPad with lower cost, you can use your iPad and drain its battery until its broke, then you pay the battery replacement program which is much cheaper than replacing the screen itself. You know? We can't tear down the iPad display, so you will be given a new (refurbished) iPad as you change your iPad battery. No need to pay right now. Just use your iPad more until the battery is bad, then replace it, so you can be happy. While so, you can check for screen replacements program from Apple, see if you are lucky to have it one day"

Funny, but yeah its the most realistic way to overcome my disappointment right now. I am relieved to hear that suggestion from him, even though I can't replace my iPad now :D

Wonderful, this issue now seems to have an (unofficial) fix. :D:apple:

Apple did similar for me yesterday with my son’s iPhone SE. brought it in for a battery replacement because of an unexpected shutdown. Planned to pay $50 for a new battery but the tech said he believed the battery had swollen so they replaced the whole phone for the same $50 fee.

That's a start. An even more effective action would be to stop buying Apple products until Apple proactively stands behind their products at an appropriate level respective to the prices they charge. And Apple fans stop jumping to Apple's defense when these things happen. Has there ever been an issue that was widely reported that turned out to be fake? If not, then a logical response to issues like this is to support fellow customers.

Got my 4th replacement iPad Pro today and checked it was made in 2019,3rd week which is 20 days old.I hope this lasts longer:)

I also had this issue for a year. A couple of days ago, I gave mine to the technical service to get a brand-new replacement. I am hoping to see an iPad Pro 10.5 with that white spot problem fixed. As soon as I get the replacement iPad, I will try to test it (charge for a day, playing cpu-consuming games, leaving screen on for a day etc.) to see whether I will have the white spot again or not.
Mine was produced in early-2018.

Same story here, IPP 10.5 purchased June 2017. Genius tells me I'd have to pay ~$500 to repair/replace it since it's out of warranty.

Guys, I have purchased iPad Pro 10.5 and after that I saw this thread. Now, I am really worried that should I use it or sell it.
I really like this 10.5 for the money spent. My device is October 2018 manufactured.
I bought it in India and here they don't have the return policy.
what you guys suggest?

Bright spot or not, iPads still can be used with the dot.
That's true, but what I am confused with is should I take a risk of using it and hope tp get away with the "white spot" also cover my risk by taking extra year warranty.

Or should completely skip this device, and stick with my iPad Air 1st gen.

I can't see any other option, since 9.7 inch design is too old and does not have amazing display of iPad Pro, and iPad Pro 11inch is too expensive also "bendgate" is worse than having a white spot.

That's the reason I bought iPad Pro 10.5, it has everything I was looking for but now this thread has put me in a no man's land.

How will you tell within a day whether you'll have the white spot when it seems to be taking months or longer? I've had mine for 3 months and there is no signs of a white spot.

Mine is an April model I bought used in September and it doesn’t show the white spot yet. Most posts in here mention the spot showing up after 12 months of use.

I had my iPad Pro 10.5 (7-2017) replaced last Sept die to the white spot which cost me $459. The replacement model manufactured 6-2018 also developed the white spot after four months. The Apple Store replaced that one earlier this week with a replacement. I have sold this iPad to a colleague and plan to get the iPad Pro 11 in the future.

Mine was manufactured 10-9-2017 so we shall see. It'll be a year since I got it April, 9 2019.

Hi guys, this is Alan reporting the same issue from Singapore. Just came back (from GB@Singapore Orchard Rd) dissapointed. My iPad Pro 10.5 just passed the 1 year warranty and got this thumbsize bright patch near the center of the screen. Apple refused to get it repaired or replaced saying it is out of warranty. And here’s my feedback to their online survey:
“For the fact that my device warranty lapsed for approximately 2 months Apple rejects the idea to get it repaired. My argument is the “thumb sized” bright patch near the centre of the screen is a result of a component quality issue. I’m not expecting a Pro level device to exhibit this type of issues within a reasonable usage lifespan. In that manner Apple should have recognise this as a quality issue regardless of whether the device is still under warranty. Btw, a simple Google search reveals this to be a common issue among certain models. I’m definitely not happy this time round at least with the overall value the product delivers. ”
Having owned various Apple products, it has been almost a yearly ritual to invest in Apple products but today’s experience definitely will change that. I’m not expecting the Pro level product to last a lifetime, but the component has to be reliable within a certain level of reasonableness. And that is the Pro quality we all are paying for. /Sigh/

Update:
My legal action against Apple paid off.
I just got a confirmation from Apple Europe (executive relations department) that every replacement device should carry/restart the 2 year guarantee.
So I am gonna pick my 2nd replacement iPadPro 10.5 with a 2 year guarantee (which was denied by the local Apple support/service the first time I visited them).

I won’t buy any iPad Pro products anymore. Pro is just for pricier iPad. Thanks for the bright spot gate, bent gate, and many gate more coming in the future. I just stick with my current IPP 10.5” until it dead and just buy a regular non pro iPad. I think its more durable and versatile than the current pro line ups. I also went to local Apple Store in Taipei, and got the same result as yours. So disappointing, but yeah what can we do?

EU consumers are in rejoice, while the others (except for buying Apple Care) are not. Here in East Asia or South East Aaia we don’t get the same treatment and policy as yours. Be grateful while it lasts dude :)

How big of an issue is this actually?
I just sold my iPad Air 2 and was looking into getting one of these.
But one year warranty is just too little with the possibility of this issue.
I want to keep the iPad longer, but I don’t want to risk this issue out of warranty.
So if I get this iPad I am forced to upgrade in a year before warranty expires or be forced to live with a time bomb on my hands?

Hard to say based on forum postings. I've had mine for 15 months without this cropping up.

Don’t you feel like you have a time bomb on your hands now that it is 15 Months and as such, it is out of warranty?

Not really, I don't worry about it. I'll keep an eye on it, though. Look at the all the posts on bent 11's and 12.9's with unresponsive screens - all of the issues you see on forums about lots of different electronic devices can scare you off of buying anything.

We had one replaced that had it, took about 2 weeks as was held up so they gave me a free pencil.
