Update 2 (final):

As my 2nd replacement device also had a hardware issue (with the speakers this time) I contacted the same department (Apple Executive Relations EMEIA, Ireland) and told them that 3 infected devices in less than 2 years is too much. So they agreed to full refund me the price of the original invoice.

That puts an end to my horrible experience with the iPad Pro 10.5.

Just wanted to give a heads up to the European owners (of problematic iPads) that feel desperate.

Cheers

Update:
My legal action against Apple paid off.
I just got a confirmation from Apple Europe (executive relations department) that every replacement device should carry/restart the 2 year guarantee.
So I am gonna pick my 2nd replacement iPadPro 10.5 with a 2 year guarantee (which was denied by the local Apple support/service the first time I visited them).

I have a 10.5" and it looks ok, from what I see, today but my AppleCare+ runs out in Sep. Is there anything I can test/check to see if has issues? I bet it comes in Nov and then I'm out of warranty.

Is there a tool to test, is it just luck, or as some say, everyone will get it in time?

Is it because some have brightness set higher or use more? Be nice to "force" any issues I can before my 2 years is up.

Happy with it in general, I'd keep it for a while longer as happy with it and does for what I want, as is 256Gb so good for all my photos. I'd get the Air 3 so then could.keepy ASK and smart cover as well. Or should I sell around July with some warranty left?

Thanks

There is no test. It's difficult to tell prevalence based on posts in user forums like this. I've had mine for 17 months, use it a lot and almost always at full brightness but I don't have the issue on my 10.5. Others have clearly had different experiences. It's a crap-shoot.

the only test is to use your ipad in a light background. so what I mean is, go to a webpage that is white. or just a blank white page. that's probably the best. a white blank page, and if there's a bright spot about one inch above the ipad, that's the issue. if not, don't worry!

if you don't have it, you don't have it. don't worry about a problem which doesn't exist. I had it, and it was annoying because I knew it was there, but my usage meant I didn't see it. it doesn't show in videos or anything, just lighter backgrounds.

Apple, luckily, gave me a replacement.

Don't get the new Air if you have the pro. you won't see any difference, and in fact would notice a few features missing. you have a better machine with no problems.

not EVERYONE has this. just enjoy your ipad I think.

Yea bought from Apple, so let's hope the genius won't have an issue with it, if they try getting me to pay the £416 out of warranty, I'm just better off paying £449 for a refurbished iPad Pro or the Air with my edu discount . Its crazy how everyone at Apple is saying this is the first time they've seen it when there's clearly an epidemic of these, oh well. Anywho, will drop in w/ an update on Tuesday.

Just got back from the Apple Store, and *drum roll* they replaced it with what looked to me like a brand new Pro, anyways, the genius looked at it and verified the issue. He said that I'm out of warranty but because I bought it from Apple directly they'll process it as a consumer law claim! Didn't even have to mention anything about it so that's great.
They even fixed the annoying trackpad issue I had with my Mid-2015 MacBook under consumer law. The only thing they didn't acknowledge despite having photos of it is the extremely uneven backlight on my replacement X.. oh well, can't win em' all.

Side-note: The genius said that new iPad is now covered under the standard 90 day warranty & 2 year consumer law restarts like someone here mentioned earlier. So if any of EU (pun intended) folks have the issue its covered under consumer law 100% :D

I'm not worrying as such, what I am is that my cover is running out, it'll be 2 years old and looking about it seems all get it eventually that's all.

I have seen one that did have it the flesh email and it was bad. Numerous spots all over.

Regarding the test I thought someone maybe had made a webpage or something to sort of text that way.

Thanks

To look for it with just a white page, just open a new note with no text in it - you don't need a web page.

I just bought an Apple refurb 10.5” Pro last week. Manufacture date 2018-7-30.

Wish me luck!

Is there a manufacturing date range that is the most problematic? Sorry, I have not read the entire thread.

Incidentally, aside from getting the Pro replaced today I also picked up a refurbished one as a present for my mum, and that one has a manufacture date of March 2019, I'm now fully convinced this is a new device.

Also gl with your Pro! Did you get AC+ with it?

So I was looking into getting a 10.5 inch Pro now that its been discontinued and cheaper to buy (I've also had great luck with buying refurbished items before) but now with this bright spot issue, it has given me great pause. I wanted to add that my daughter and I were in Best Buy today looking at the iPad display models and sure enough, the 10.5 Pro had the white spot. Clear as day. Of course you have to have a white background to see it but I was looking through the pre-loaded iMessages and you just can't miss it. I'm sure the display model has been up there for quite some time, nevertheless, it really sucks that this issue could still be prevalent even with the newest batches. It might come down to the Air or the 11 inch Pro for me.

Not that that should depress you in any way. :(

The thing with getting the Air vs. the refurbished Pro is that you could get the white spot on the Pro or potentially some other issue with the Air, it's all a guessing game at this point to be honest. Whatever you go with if you're outside the EU, you could buy with a credit card that does extended warranty or get AC+ with it, just to have some peace of mind.

Hi. I just noticed that I have the exact same thing on my iPad Pro 10.5. However, the warranty expired. How much would it cost to replace it at Apple Store in Canada? If it’s too expensive, i might just keep it and hopes the spot won’t get bigger with time. Would be nice if Apple acknowledges the issue and replace the screens at minimal cost like they did with the iPhone batteries. Now I’m so frustrated that I didn’t sell it 2 months ago to get the new IPP before this issue occurred. ‍♂️

Is this something that is noticeable right out of the box or does this develop over time? I'm about to pull the trigger on a new 10.5 IPP:(:oops:o_O

I believe it happens over time. Depending on your means I would get the iPad Pro 11 inch model and add AppleCare too.

As a matter of interest, did you notice this as a result of what you may have read about the problem or did that have no part to play?

Thanks to all of you on this forum, as soon as I noticed a bright spot on my 10.5 iPad Pro this past Wednesday, I searched this forum for solutions. I chatted with Apple Thursday morning, went into the Glendale Galleria Apple store in the afternoon and walked out with a new 10.5” Pro. I was there maybe 8 minutes.

Under warranty? Or out of warranty?
