Mine has got 2 spots and out of warranty at this moment. I dont think will dare to go for Apple products again. I have been along with Apple since the iP4s and many of their products and all of them has one or two hardware issues. But until this 10.5 that is too much for me. Im out.

I'm due to pick up a refurb 10.5" iPad Pro (2017) from Apple tomorrow ;)

I chose this over the iPad Air (2019) for the extra RAM and the better speakers. It will have a full 12 month warranty, with new case and new battery, but not necessarily a new screen.

Should this white spot develop over the next 12 months, what do you think Apple would offer as a replacement should they have run out of that model?

(I've not made the move to USB-C yet, my MBP is the 2015 model, so I'd be thinking twice about a replacement with that - altho' I 'spose I will have to make the move sometime.)

That’s why am going next well the advisor said if they didn’t have them they would upgrade me to an 11, but that did not happen.

By advisor, you probably mean a lowly Apple employee. They can say a lot of things, but it all comes down to a 5% chance of getting an upgrade to a device and only if Apple parts supplies are constrained.

Your choice, but if I were to do this again, I wouldn't touch this product with a 10 ft pole. Why spend hundreds of dollars on an item that will inevitably have bright spots and go through the replacement process, or have that risk in the first place? All for better speakers and an extram RAM or two?

Didn’t they fix this problem for the Air 3? I would’ve gone for that for that reason alone, or hell just get the 11” Pro. I wouldn’t touch the 10.5” Pro at all now for this reason alone, which unfortunately crippled an otherwise great device.

Coconut Battery reports that manufacture date is 27 May 2019 - so very recent!

[ I first took the serial number from the box and checked that with chipmunk - see below/attached - it stated June 2019 as the production date!! ]

I had already downloaded Coconut Battery onto my MacBook Pro - it has to run in MacO/S - as I had been using it to text the battery level in my iPhone. This also reports other information about the iPhone, and about the iPad, such as date of manufacture.

At first I had trouble getting Coconut Battery to recognise that I had connected the new iPad to my MBP by USB cable, but then I read that you have to open iTunes on the MBP and that forces the question about 'trust' on the iPad. After that it was just a matter of clicking onto ios in Coconut Battery and bingo.

I've attached the reading from Coconut Battery

I just got mine replaced free today at the Genius Bar. This was actually a replacement to my original that developed the white spot as well. This replacement was almost a year old. Initially he wanted to charge $449 for a replacement. Then I proceeded to ask him as to what the possible causes for this are as this was my second unit experiencing the same issue. He said battery swelling could be a cause and he was nice enough to chalk it up as that and gave a me a free replacement. So the motto of the story is, if you can get the genius bar tech to acknowledge the cause of the white spot is due to battery swelling, you will likely get a free replacement.

Is there any reason to believe that an iPad Pro 10.5 (2017 model) manufactured in May 2019 is any less likely to suffer this fate?

Just asking ;)

Also, as I bought it with Amex Platinum (UK), do I glean that means that there is extra cover in case it does? I'm about to go investigate.

Clock now ticking ... I have 13 days to take it back for a refund and 59 days to splash out on AppleCare+.

As an aside: I also bought the 1st gen Pencil (at a discount on the Apple refurb page) but have not yet bought a keyboard/cover. Having bought only the 64GB version I also have bought the SanDisk lightning/USB 128GB memory stick but that is also usable for the iPhone 7. Confession: also ordered that PaperLike iPad Screen Protector as I want to try to like the Pencil.

No and for anyone who thinks that a recently manufactured 10.5" iPad Pro is somehow immune to the bright spot defect is just fooling themselves.

All you're doing is delaying the inevitable.

Unless Apple has fixed this and added it, no one really knows in later models. Has Air 3 definitely got a fix for this? Who knows, if they have then maybe Apple added this fix into 10.5 pro if easy to add.

Hard to tell. I've had my 10.5 for 20+ months now and haven't gotten any bright spots but others certainly have. I use it a lot, almost always at 100% brightness. Seems to be a crap shoot.

Something weird happened to my replacement unit. After having restored my backup it turns out that, after 10 minutes idle , it restarted on its own. This would not have been a problem if it had not happened again and again and again. I decided to check the analysis records and it turns out that among the logs appeared a "Panic-full" event (Which I found, was related to hardware failures) I immediately contacted Apple explaining the situation and they gladly told me they would ask another replacement for me (My AppleCare + expires in a month) Hopefully I will not have any more problems. As a curious fact: This faulty iPad Pro was manufactured in October 2018, which I found strange given that there are several of you who have received devices manufactured 2 months ago at the most.

You and me share the exact same experience and sentiment.

Have had every Ipad since my first Apple purchase, the Ipad 4. That thing was awesome. Fantastic build quality. Loved iOS6 so much. Then subsequently bought and owned IPad Air (dad still using it until today), Air 2, Mini 4 (wife still using it, flawless), Pro 9.7, and then this one, the 10.5 Pro since July ‘17.

Recently took it in (last month) to Apple Store, genius quoted me $599 CAD. Also noted that there was not a single scratch, or nick anywhere, immaculate. Noticed the issue right away, and mentioned he’s seen other 10.5s with the same.

Actually had a buyer lined up for my 10.5 when the 11”Pro launched. Discovered the flaw around the same time. Was so ticked that I returned the 11” even though it was a beauty. Couldn’t in good conscience sell this to anyone. Decided to vote with my wallet, and will not give Apple my money again for a hardware flaw that they refuse to accept responsibility for. Not until or if they make this right.

Hi there. I have the same issue. Unfortunately the product is out of warranty. I contacted apple and they say to go to a repair service (we don’t have an apple store in Greece) and see what they they can offer me. I am not accepting any paying option as its a hardware problem who comes out with the time.
It’s a pity spending so much money for a hi quality product that lasts so little.
This is my 3rd replaced device first had charging problems 2nd had audio balance problems and this one have screen problems.
I will wait and hope that they will recognize this as a hardware issue in they future. If they do....
Iam really sorry for this.

Hi all--so proud to share: my "bright spot" came in this week on my iPad Pro purchased in March 2019 (read with sarcasm, please). Manufacture date August 2018 (confirmed by this sweet little link: www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html thanks to the user who posted this above)

What is the latest news on replacement Pros having the same problem? I'm taking mine in tomorrow and hear hope rustling in the idea that some people are getting iPad Pro 10.5's manufactured 2019 as replacements, but if there's actually been no fix--what's the realistic hope they won't have the same problem?

Do the iPad Air 3s have the same problem?

Any class action suit action going on here? This is some B.S. multiplied by every dollar and feeling of joy and hope that now feels wasted on this iPad. :(

Come on, Apple! Own up, you made a problem--can you fix it?

P.S. Posted similar comment on Apple Support forums and it was deleted; message from Apple: "We removed your post iPad Pro 10.5, manufactured August 2018 has bright spot because it contained rants or complaints that weren’t constructive. We understand wanting to share experiences, but these forums are meant for technical questions that can be answered by the community."

I’m guessing they would not have replaced the Pro 10.5 model with the Air if the issues had been fixed.

My 2nd replacement I had was manufactured March 2019 .
1 week left on Apple care so only a 90 day warranty . Sold it and bought an 11 inch .A bit excessive but I would always be looking for a bright spot !

So now as the two of you above report, we are being bullied off of the Apple Support forums for raising an issue that Apple is responsible for because of their faulty hardware. Wow!

To think I was a Apple fan at one time and thought they were always on our side :(

So I called Apple again and ask them if they could express deliver a new iPad they told me that is not an option, I have to drive again an hour and a half each way to go pick up an iPad which seems ridiculous.
