Bahaha, glad I stuck with my $299 Pro 10.5 over a more expensive Air 3 then. I almost swapped for an Air 3 due to this issue, even though it was more expensive and missing a few of the features from the Pro. Maybe since that’s a more mainstream device, there will be more cases, and it will cause Apple to finally acknowledge the issue for both models.

My Ipad Pro 10.5 (purchased Sept 2017) developed a white spot 4months ago. Took it back to the Apple store and they honoured the warranty and gave me a replacement model. The defected iPad was a MPHG2X/A, it was relaced with a NPHG2B/A

What's manufacturer date of both? What is relevance of the different model numbers? Different country? Or is it because it's a newer version release maybe? as in some fixes, newer parts etc?

Original device manufactured 25/07/2017, replacement device manufactured 16/07/2019. Couldn’t find any info on the newer model.

I spotted the white spot above the homeboy button long time ago. And I always thought there was Sth wrong with my own eyes and ignored the problem. However, today I was reading a book, and I could no longer unseen the white spot. It is out of warranty. I will go to apple store on Thursday. They better not charge me for fixing or exchanging.

I had my original 10.5” IPP replaced last year due to the bright spot (I believe it was out of warranty at this point, but I could be wrong), but they replaced it no questions asked and the replacement one has been great so far -knock on wood-

Does your Model Number start with a “N”?

Bought mine early 2018. White spot developed a week or so ago. Same location, just above home button. Very unhappy about this. iPad 4 I had prior to this lasted many years without issue. Now, I feel this screen problem is very likely battery related and is only going to grow worse as the battery is probably expanding. Uncool.

I finally found the time to call Apple and send my bright spot iPad in for repair. This happened under the 2 year EU warranty and was no problem at all. Handed it to UPS yesterday and replacement is already on its way, got to admit that this process is really fast.

Will report back here when I get the replacement next week.

Did you note your iPad serial etc for manufacturing date and then compare to new for ref.

Or what?

I've had a 10.5 pro for 10 months. No sign of a white spot yet. I hope I don't get one but I also don't see it as a huge problem.

Is this thing noticeable on a non-white screen? Like when watching movies?

My Pro coming up to the end of its AC+ and so far ok, but worried as know what will happen, AC+ finishes and get it....

No it's not. But this is a Pro device, so I personally don't watch movies, but I do my research on it. And PDFs and websites have white backgrounds most of the times, so this is an issue.

I surely can report it here, but at this point I'm fairly certain that the manufacturing date does not make a difference. Every iPad Pro 10.5 (and the new iPad Air) has the same design fault that causes this.

Original iPad was manufactured week 35 of 2017 (September).
Replacement iPad is from 25 Feb 2019.

So much newer that's good and hopefully a fix. Wonder if the Air 3 is fixed, maybe too early to say.

With my early 2017 10.5" Pro AC+ running out, I'm wondering wether to use an "incident" to get a replacement in the hope it'll be a newer one and fixed? and the bonus of a new battery.... although it seems ok at the moment.

If your's does not have a bright spot, I would definitely not force a replacement. Like I already said, from all we know the problem was not fixed, because even the Air 3 has it.

It's a balance as apparently they all do eventually though. I'm just thinking knowing my luck it will straight out of AC+.... Other hand maybe never...

True we're not 100% sure if Air 3 or newer 10.5 Pro are fixed. But just because Apple hasn't acknowledged publicly, surely they have internally and addressed this? If so then I'm thinking Air 3 and newer 10.5 Pro would have the fix?

Mine is week 8 2019 (18-24 Feb). Received this about 2 months ago as my AC+ was running out and I could see the spot developing on it. So this is my 3rd replacement since I purchased on launch.

I'll keep replacing under EU law, if it happens again, and if we're in the EU still.

How bad were your developing? Noticeable easy enough? What date were your others? Only noticeable on white screen, like white web pages and notes app?

Did you phone or goto store for replacements? Did you mention the screen prob as the issue?

Was it free under AC+? Or did you have to pay the standard fee for repair?

Really unsure what to do....

Initial iPad was launch date. First replacement was on 31/07/2018 (noticed the spot a couple of months before) and I think had a date of a few months earlier. That replacement device had bad shadowing in the corners so got it replaced v quickly, and the replacement replacement had a date of about may 2017.

That one started to develop a faint spot around feb this year and as my AC+ was coming to an end I got another replacement. This current one is Week 8 2019 with no sign of the spot.

I did all the replacement via chat and specifically asked for AC+ express replacements. I was polite but I was insistent I wanted an AC+ Express Replacement and not to go through any hoops with stores etc (didn't want a replacement to be based on a Genius's opinion if you see what I mean)

All free replacements, each time I described it as a bright spot on the screen.
