I just got a replacement of my 12.9 a couple days ago for this reason.

As did I on my 12.9 for the exact same reason. I was actually surprised they did not just replace the display and gave me a total replacement device. The tech said they actually have a warranty replacement category of ‘light leakage’ for this reason.

They are surely aware. I’ve no doubt. We shouldn’t expect admissions of manufacturer defect for all devices but there really is no other explanation for this bright spot phenomena. For apple to completely shirk responsibility has completely altered my opinion on them.

To hear people being refused repair/replacement on such a blatant defect is poor practice. I never thought of apple as ducking & diving to deny responsibility. I thought them bigger than that. This one is kinda inexcusable imo. Even for the good of the company, Apple should be quietly replacing all affected units and removing the offending displays from the wild and saving face.

Out of warranty?

I noticed it on mine and am trying to kill the battery health so I can get the $99 replacement (over 2 years old, out of warranty).

I know some people have been denied battery replacements due to the white spot, but I wonder if we were to get a battery replacement, thus a screen replacement, at the very first sign of the white spot, when it’s still very hard to notice, if that could be a cheap way to get the screen replaced. I know that will be my first move if it happens to me out of warranty. Just don’t procrastinate and let it get really noticeable or they will deny you.
Upgrade to iPadOS and turn on dark mode...then go see Apple.

I owned my first iPad Pro 10.5 (Space Gray) since release during the summer of 17' and i noticed the white spot develop this year around July when I sold it. It wasn't that bad and I might not have noticed it if it wasn't pointed out, but when I was selling the device and took pictures of it i finally saw it on the setup screen. Fast forward a few months i missed the iPad so i decided to rebuy it in a different color this ones gold. I knew coming in that it also had a bright spot, and I'm willing to live with it. My only fear is that it will get worse over time or spread... So im documenting its current condition. The display was also replaced by the seller on this gold one so its completely fresh - it looks like the display connectors definitely have to be causing some pressure against the display that causes the spot.

I made a post about white spots appearing on my iPad Pro way back in Dec (post #419) and now look how it has evolved over the nine months.

Seeing that just made my anxiety of picking this thing up every day even worse... Apple needs a PR ********* about this otherwise they won't do a single thing... At least offer replacements and clear inventory.

I took my iPad into a London Apple store today hoping to get my device exchanged however as I bought the device from O2 they will not exchange it. I’ve tried the O2 route already but it gets complicated because the iPad I currently have is a replacement that Apple provided under warranty, not the one O2 provided.

O2’s stance is “it isn’t the device we gave you that has developed this fault, and we don’t sell them anymore anyway so we can’t replace it”.

Some people on here mentioned they had been told by Apple geniuses that it is a battery issue, so I tried that tact with the London store as I would be happy to pay £99 for a replacement....but they weren’t haven’t any of it (but also couldn’t tell me what causes the issue....) £449 is too much

Apple won't do anything because they know that outside of a small community of affected users and "Apple enthusiasts" (I don't mean that in a negative way) who follow forums and related news sites, this issue is unknown. I'm a retired engineer and know a lot of techies and Apple device owners and I can't think of a single one who has any real awareness of this. As a result, Apple can let this blow itself out over time and continue to sell a lot of products to a very large consumer populace totally unaware of these kinds of problems. I doubt that this particular issue has had anything other than the very tiniest impact on their sales.

It's a big enough "thing" that Best Buy is aware of it and it is one of the things they look for when someone trades an iPad Pro in. It won't be a "thing" of epic proportions unless one of the popular tech blogs or YouTubers covers it. 😄

Until that happens, people need to make decisions based on what is best for them in the moment... not wait hoping that something else will bring pressure to bear on Apple to do something.

Epic proportions? I think it will take one exploding while filming a popular YouTube cat.

Is a new iPad Pro expected next month? Unfortunately I am unable to use my iPad as it’s an eyesore and I refuse to shell out $600 for a replacement. My only option is to trade this in once a new one comes out. Used to be I would buy an iPad without Apple Care as it stays at home and I never needed the warranty on my Air 2 or Air. Things have changed. Now I have to buy Apple Care for iPad too.

I’m wondering the same thing. I tried the iPad 11” but it creaked when I slid my finger over the display. Also if you applied the slightest bit of pressure it caused screen issues. The 10.5 didn’t have those issues but it has the bright spot. Sigh.

ipads already have large batteries, but if Apple follows the new iPhone trend and just makes the new ipad Pro thicker that would be a Win-Win.

Wtf I just noticed this issue on my iPad Pro 10.5! It’s only really noticeable on white pages for me but it’s quite annoying!
