Just buy Apple Care along with the tablet. Only way forward for new iPads.
Again they are probably made very similar but the issue should again arise as the air 3 ages over time for most people... but maybe this time an actual notable youtuber will cover it otherwise air 3 owners will be screwed and apple will not acknowledge it.

Here(-ish)
Apple never made a case with a back on it. Many assumed it was because of heat dissipation issues.

To everyone having these issues, were you using your iPads with cases that had back protection (not only a screen cover)?

Mine was naked from day one and it did not come with the spot the spot started after about three months and actually grew bigger at one time the little spot my battery area on the iPad would hide it LOL when I grew about a half inch

Well picked up another Air 3 and it has similar issues to the first one on the home button side of the screen. Shadowy and brighter areas extending about 1/4 out from the side of the screen. Guess I'll give up. :)

I bought my iPad Pro 10.5 shorty after the 11 was released last year. Basically wanted the best DAC Apple has produced so far in an iOS device. The DAC does not disappoint, I'd say it's on par with $3000 dedicated DACs like Chord Hugo 2 in terms of sound quality.

However a bright spot has appeared after a couple of months about 2" from the home button. I got the iPad replaced in Apple store no problem. The new iPad 10.5 is manufactured in May 2019 and its display is almost perfect. Definitely more uniform than my old iPad. No signs of the bright spot at its usual location whatsoever.

I still have a year and a few months of AppleCare left. Not sure whether this new iPad will develop a bright stop also, but if it does, I am replacing again.
Is your iPad still fine? Or any spot has appeared?

I did try to take my Pro 10.5 back to the Apple store today to argue the case. They could see the white spot but claimed they had never seen it before and someone must have pressed on it! I can live with it now in dark mode, but its annoying!

I hate when they pull this faux surprise. I swear some apple store reps are trained to simulate ignorance of common issues. I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority are from drama school backgrounds, given how convincing they are when glossing over blatant defects.

My next visit to apple store will see me go in fully loaded with pages of google search results of the issue at hand. They have a habit of making you feel your issue is unique and ‘new to them’ it gets exhausting trying to convince them otherwise. A few pages of search results at the ready may not get you a replacement device, but it may have them think twice before accusing and/or making you feel responsible for known issues.

You should throw it back in their face and say since your issue is unique that it must be a manufacturing defect and apple should take care of you. I get your frustration and I too hate when they act like they've never heard of common issues.

yea, u should bring some evidence and put it on their face
i believe that apple is really ignoring this issue(and many more), as i mention before, even a replacement is not a solution, we'll still gonna get this issue on the other day, because they didnt even try to solve this bright spot, they still producing the same product with the same blue print over and over again
It would be good if they start to listen to their customer and not arguing them, start to figure out what is wrong with this bright spot, what caused it, and start to solve it. Thats it.
but we're facing against the fact that they just dont care. They probabbly think that this is not a big deal, not a big issue for them, that are going to ruin their product, but... it is a big dang problem for us

dang, sorry for my bad english, i just try to tell what's in my mind

This issue happened to us twice on our 10.5... the last time one week after AppleCare ended...they wanted to charge $450 to replace but did give us another saying any more times will be $450. Have had case on this since day 1 and Smart Keyboard...but the first replacement the tech said it was due to battery swelling... not sure but don't think it's due to the keyboard. Relative of ours had the same issue, replaced while under AppleCare. This is an issue, ours was so bad it was a 2" spot above the home button visible always except when black screen was there...

This is clearly an issue and very very disappointing how apple is handling. We are huge apple fans and treat our machines with great care...but defects are getting to be more prevalent unfortunately ... and historically apple stores have been supportive but seems like messaging is to say "this is the first we have seen of this" and dismiss... sigh.

ADDED: In case it matters, we had had a very thin clear plastic back on the iPad 10.5 since purchase and the apple Smart Keyboard cover... never been "naked" or dropped... yet saw this issue happen 2 times in 2 years of ownership. Will say they did eventually make good on the second replacement (literally a week after AppleCare ended) but having to fight for what is clearly a defect is troubling. Am very worried my current one will have the same issue... good luck to all who are arguing this now... should be an official repair program from apple!

Please bring them the evidence and let us know how it goes. This is unacceptable to pretend that WE’RE the ones who caused this issue. Should ask to talk to a manager and tell them to document the issue to the higher ups at the very least, if not a device replacement.

They just don't give a ****. My $300 Nexus 7 from 2013 has a more tolerable display than my $1000 iPad. Horrible customer service I never expected from Apple.

I feel your pain guys. In the last 2 weeks I’ve bought 2 iPad Air 3s and one iPad Pro. All 3 had noticeable screen brightness uniformity issues. 2 dark corners on my latest purchase (pro)

As far as the apple store employees go, what do you really expect them to say? “Oh yeah we see these problems all the time”. ??

They would be fired the next day.

Can you afford the legal bills? 🙂

The bottom line is nothing comes close to the iPad so we’re going to have to make the best of it
