The spot is inevitable. I just went to a store to purchase the 2018 iPad and the 10.5 in the store itself had a big white spot. Buy AC.

A 10.5 Air 3 had the bright spot in the store? What store still has the 10.5 pro on display?

Every 10.5 Pro I’ve ever seen in any store has had the white spot too. Most people are probably not observant enough to care.

For what it is worth, I took it to the genius bar the other day, they inspected it, marked the bad areas with a diagnostic app, and replaced the iPad for no charge. (I was covered under Applecare+.) The genius called it a light leak, said it usually happens on the side of the screen, but every once in a while in the middle like my iPad.

I didn't argue about what they are calling the issue (pressure point vs light leak.) I guess it is a good thing that apple is gathering information on exactly where the screen defects are occurring help engineer future iPad models (or support a recall if needed of affected models.

10.5 pro bought in June 2017, use it daily for several hours - and I noticed 2 small bright spots just now, I could swear they weren‘t there yesterday... They are in the bottom right corner, where the right shift key of the keyboard sits, so not too bothering but still annoying... :-(

IPad Pro 10.5” owner here. Purchased sept 2017 and had white spot issue like everyone else.

luckily the place I bought from gave me 4 year warranty. Ive just submitted a claim.

shame as I wanted to get a used 2nd gen iPad Pro 12.9 but not going to as seen a few on eBay with the same issue.

maybe too early but I assume the 3rd gen iPads don’t suffer with this?

guess best practice here is to buy brand new and with longest warranty I can find

Rock/hardplace.

Where can you get a four year warranty?
Submitted an extended warranty claim to American Express on this. I will let people know how it goes.

I think some places in UK offer longer warranties. John Lewis (I think) offer a 4 year repairs warranty.

AC+ now is endless. Doesn’t end at 2 years if you renew.

And to elaborate,

You have to pay monthly after the initial two years, if you paid for two years outright. They alert you 60 days before the two years are up. However, Apple will only allow two fixes.

I bought another Air 3 and if this happens, I’ll deal with it. I notice some heat about the lower half of the Air, but I now stop using it when it gets warm or hot. Once it cools down, I’ll start using it again.

Bummer this is still happening, and on 12.9” models too.

Warranty is infinite.
You get 2 incidents of accidental damage every 24 months. For legit reasons you get infinite warranty.

I buy the initial warranty for two years, it can become infinite IF you choose that 60 days before the two years ends.

If you want to pay monthly, then it is infinite.

You got it wrong.

You have up to 60 days after the expiry of your 2 years to renew it. While it’s under 2 years, you can’t renew it.

Well, I’ll go with what an Apple store manager told me instead. Thanks very much.

lol. IME the only people who have no clue about Apple policies are Apple employees.
You won’t be able to renew it while the subscription is alive. Feel free to try though.

49 pages of white spots... anyone have a good summary for me as a new owner of 2 used iPad Pro 10.5 devices?

One arrived practically new with no sign of spots. Whew! And the AppleCare warranty is still effective to 2020. (Score!) I’m not remotely worried about this iPad.

The other iPad is in great cosmetic shape, but the first thing I noticed is the clear white spot about 2 inches up from the home button. 😟Warranty is expired. Battery cycles at 400+.
So I got a good deal on it, I just need to decide if this white spot is going to give me trouble. Would Apple replace or repair this as a manufacturing defect? Will the white spot grow worse or cause other issues down the road?

Usually doesn’t get worse. And doesn’t really affect the experience provided by the device. Apple won’t fix this for you. But there’s nothing much to fix anyway. The chance of getting a white spot is very high even with a brand new 10.5 or maybe even Air 10.5.

Hi everyone... I own a iPad Pro 10.5", bought in December 2017, and a few weeks ago I start noticing something on the screen, especially while showing white background. Reading this thread I'm quite sure I am affected by the infamous "bright spot". TBH I have no complains in daily use, but I paid quite a lot of money for the device , and since the warranty is going to expire in one month , I'm thinking about a claim.
Is Apple going to accept it easily ? I don't want to fight a battle over a somewhat minor issue.
