I believe it is stuck on the proverbial "Someone ought to ...". The usual Internet outrage leading to no actual activity.
Exactly. Everyone complains, but when given the opportunity for action, they want someone else to start. Ya'll a bunch of sheep!

Why don't you do it?
I'm not experiencing the bright spot issue, thus far, on my 2017 10.5 Pro yet. Since getting the Mini 5, I haven't used it much, but I am using it more to see if it appears before my warranty expires in April 2020.

Yeah, 2+ years on and I don't see it on mine, either.

Morning everyone, greetings from Germany.
I am a content 9,7" Pro user, but due to bigger screen, more RAM, 120Hz and better CPU/GPU I want to go for the Pro 10,5". I have the chance to pick a new (sealed) one for 450€ (=$) next Saturday. It even seems to be covered by 2 years of service warranty.

Now, the spot itself isn't such a big issue for me, considering it is only noticeable on bright backgrounds (while more and more apps support the dark mode). However, what I am interested in:

All of you who have to live with said issue, has the white spot been growing further or more intense in the meantime? Or does it stay on the same "semi-annoying" level for all eternity, without worsening further? Maybe some of you can give us an update :)

If second is the case, then I am willing to take the moderate risk. The newer or bigger iPad Pros are no alternative for me (too big, thin, sharp-edged and expensive, no OIS and headphone) and the 10,5" seems to be the best compromise for my needs (Procreate with Pencil, media, web, gaming). Thank you!

I’m on my 4th 10.5 pro and finally have one without issue. I found that the white spot actually grew over time. The second one I had took around 12 months to get to be around thumbprint size (which was annoying). The most recent had a spot in exactly the same place but I didn’t give it time to grow before swapping out.

Number 4 is perfect (so far) and I’m glad I stuck with this model. I had considered changing to the new Air. The four speakers are brilliant and pro-motion is noticeably better.

My 2nd Gen iPad Pro 12.9 is starting to have light bleed at the bottom of the tablet (not near the home button.) It started at about 20 months of ownership. Tried to photograph it, but found it hard to capture the image. It's more noticeable in person.

Don’t chance it. I had the issue. I would stay away from the 10.5 and the Air3.

I have no serious alternative. I need a 10"-11" laminated screen, 4GB of RAM, Quad Speakers, and as I work with Procreate I already have a Pencil 1 Gen. My current 9,7" has limited RAM, a smaller screen and rather thick bezels. A more or less noticeable bright spot (only on white backgrounds), should it really occur, is acceptable for me. Still better than the bending, overpriced (+ new pencil to buy!) newer models which also lack TouchID, OIS and Headphone.

As long said white spot is not growing further and further, I could live with that, that's why I have asked.

I would recommend Apple Care for this one - it will save you some grief in the future.

My ipad pro 12.9 2nd gen also having the same bleeding light spot, but located at bottom left along the edge. What can we do about it? Sigh.. Paid premium price, but getting such quality.. Very disappointed in apple product!!

Given what we see are you going to buy a new iPad this year? Is this their way of making us buy Apple Care to handle this kind of defect?

I doubt it’s intentional to make us buy AppleCare, but yes, due to the expense of repair and issues like this it pushes me to buy AppleCare for all my Apple products.

I also intend to continue paying past the traditional two year mark due to issues like these, and the fact that I intend to keep my Apple devices longer than two years. With the new AppleCare monthly plans that is an option now (at least on the US.). Hopefully I will be able to extend it, when I purchased my plan they only had the 2 year option.

My ipad was replaced a few months ago under AppleCare for this whitespot issue, I also damaged my first iPad (due to my own negligence, I dropped it an cracked the screen.) At least this issue did not use my remaining replacement allotment (they allow two damage replacements for the 24 month plan.)

I would love this white spot issue to be covered for everyone under a recall/extended warranty plan (similar to the MacBook keyboards) but I can’t count on that occurring, so AppleCare is the best option for me (at this time.)

My old 2008 aluminum MacBook has a couple of white spots, so it's not even restricted to iPads. However, I'm not complaining, because I bought it used a few years back for CAD$180 (US$138 at the current exchange rate).

BTW, it works pretty well after I upgraded it with 8 GB RAM and SSD, adjusted the trackpad screw, and updated it to High Sierra.

As for my 10.5" iPad Pro refurb, it's still fine after 11 months.
