Mine has developed this problem - I think my punishment for having defended the iPad Pro 10.5 elsewhere on this forum. Still a great iPad, just now rather less great.

I’m torn between the iPad Mini 5 (256gb New) or the iPad Pro 10.5 (256gb Refurbished) as they’re the same price.

How serious/bad is this issue? Should I have an issue with a refurbished version?

And can I buy AppleCare one a refurbished product? Wondering how much it costs for this model.

They are 2 different beasts in my opinion so depends what you want from it.

Yes you can buy AppleCare+ for refurbished iPads. It’s £129 for Pro

The issue is quite serious and with refurbished you can face a touchscreen failure (look up "unresponsive iPad screen" on the Internet). If you get a refurbished do a thorough hardware test.

I purchased a refurbished 10.5 Pro last night after watching all the review and comparison videos on YouTube. So much glowing praise.... Then afterward I saw all the posts about the white spot issue, and suddenly regretted my purchase. I'm sending mine back the second I receive it. It's not worth stressing over an expensive product. Even if there's the standard 1-year warranty, the same problem may appear on the replacement(s).

Got mine today and it’s perfect. Purchased AC+ for peace of mind.
 
Learn to live with it. This issue is not considered a defect by Apple. That's it.
 
Who's going to initiate it? A suit keeps coming up but everybody expects somebody else to initiate it and carry it forward. So it's not going to happen.

Usually it's a journalist who faces the problem (like it happened to MacBook infamous Butterfly keyboard). Or a lawyer (I think that what happened to iPhone throttling but I'm not sure). Seems we need one of those guys to finally make Apple to anything. Until then they will keep selling faulty products.

54 pages worth of discussion on the issue on macrumors alone isnt enough for u?

Except that these 54 pages represent a tiny fraction of 1% of 10.5 pro owners and in no way proves that this is a widespread issue. No, it isn’t enough for Apple to even blink. I don’t doubt that many people get a white spot, but you’d have to come up with many thousands of examples before you can even say 1% have the problem. A few dozen complaints in a thread doesn’t cut it. You’ll find just as many stating they have had no issues.

It doesn't disprove it ether unfortunately. The issue seems pretty consistent, both in location and time before it starts to manifest. People that don't report it on a forum may not have noticed it, may not think it a big issue, may already have had it swapped out or simply sold it on and upgraded.
What is clear is this is not an isolated issue affecting only a handful of people.

I can't recall a time when an issue as widely reported on MR as this has been was shown to be "no big deal".

The reason why Apple hasn't done anything about it is because there haven't been any serious threats of a class-action lawsuit.

But who's going to initiate the class action suit? Questions about one keep popping up here but someone who cares enough has to initiate it and nobody has been willing to do it.
