Adding to this thread--I have replaced my MacBook with a Lenovo Legion.

but I just wanted my computer to be customizable, upgradable, and compatible with more programs.
Tell us, how do you customise and upgrade the Lenovo Legion.

Long, long time ago I've realized I can get any job done in any OS as long as firepower and a tool for the job is there. I've worked on Windows, Mac, different Linux distributions and they are all the same when it comes to get the job done. Again, if you have enough of power and your tools at your disposal.

Currently we run Windows/Linux(Flame, Nuke, Fusion, farm rendering) machines solely because of Nvidia GPUs. We don't prioritize workstation CPUs anymore despite more accurate rendering calculations compared to GPU. We got rid of our workstation CPU+Mobo+Cooling combos and got ourselves gaming CPUs instead. True, we took a hit on RAM (192GB) compared to 256GB we usually got on Xeons and Threadrippers. There was only one machine that had 512GB of RAM which was basically a test bed for future purchases, now that one is used for DAWs and insane mastering VST chains.

I got a notification that this thread had activity again, so I’m gonna share my current thoughts.

While more competition is needed, and I think Intel (with its lunar lake) and Qualcomm are on track to beat Apple Silicon, I feel like the integrated experience I get from iOS + iPadOS + macOS is unrivaled. And man, I really love iOS and macOS. And Hackintosh will soon be dead so… yeah, I’m stuck in the ecosystem.

Things I don’t like that could have made me think jumping from Apple’s ship?

- OLED screens on Apple devices bother my eyes, and I’m afraid that includes the great M4 iPad Pro. And the future for Apple devices is OLED (I absolutely LOVE my SE3 but it will receive support until iOS 20 or 21).

- Immature software that takes many months to be polished, having to wait almost a year from the announcement to install the major updates with as few bugs as possible.

- The iPadOS big question. While I’m quite happy with how it currently is (it does the job I need to be done), it has so much potential that hurts to see how limited it is, regarding apps that could be installed (like on the Mac), or the operating system itself.

- macOS could have longer support, especially when it becomes Apple Silicon only: I don’t see the M1 SoC not being powerful enough to run macOS in 5 years. However, Apple will probably drop support without technical reasons.

All that said, I’m typing this from my iPhone SE3, and along my M2 iPad Pro and my old Mac mini, I really enjoy the experience and I don’t think I’d be happier with a huge Android smartphone (phablet?) or an Android tablet. A Windows 11 PC however… sounds tempting, specially if we think about the gaming possibilities, but I’ve always preferred to play in a console. And upcoming Apple Silicon chips have great gaming potential at a smaller form factor.

So, all in all, I’m staying in the walled garden for a few more years.

I am not the OP, but the case of the Legion can be opened and the RAM and SSD can be easily customized/upgraded.
Actually, I know you can replace the RAM and SSD, if that is the customisation. You can do that with some "Windows" laptops. The Legion is a dedicated gaming laptop, while Apple doesn't make such, so cannot be compared.

Your original question was: "Tell us, how do you customise and upgrade the Lenovo Legion.". That is exactly what I answered. Your question should have been "How can Apple be compared to a dedicated gaming laptop?"

For the entire month of July my goal is to use only 2012 and later  devices i own such as a macbook and new/referb. mini except for the iPad gen 10 due to my profession since i draw on that now, sadly. That also included packing the 3 homepod minis and finding a new email.

perhaps i wont have a bad taste with the  eco system and shed a positive light on those lovely people and devlopers in Cuppertino, and here for a while.

 is okay just underachieving lately.

Are you also getting that additional dot (.) when hitting the space key?

Just what I said, you have to live in China to get that done, with that kind of equipment...and abilities.
? You are not making a lot of sense:
So you can upgrade your Apple device yourself in China if Chinese? But not somewhere else?
Or you think that it is difficult to upgrade a laptop yourself? Which I assure, it really is not (if it is meant to be upgraded). A Philips driver is usually enough. An average item from ikea is probably harder to do.
As said, I have done it on 3 old mbp in the past (ssd and ram).

Sure, the old MacBooks, but try to do that with newer Silicon ones, and even the Intel ones from last 10 years. That Chinese guy would do that quite easily, with the equipment he has, and the knowledge. After all, Apple makes their devices in China, but not in the US, or in the West. And, that's not about cheap labour.

Whether we like or dislike 's latest A1 and cloud suffocation and un-expandable tech,
the main aspect of anything is simply trust.

personally I lost all trust with  this year and hopefully wont purchase anything through them again.

So….do you have trust in Microsoft then?
