Gotta be in it to win it
My reference to greed at Apple was an experience with Apple Care. The rep made no attempt to gather any info on device, customer. He just start blowing about damage. That's stupid. He lost a sale at the beginning. I do not reward rudeness or stupidity with dollars.

I read post on this site all the time about devices damaged by liquids, impact. Is Apple not capable of repairing a device that is damaged?

The Mac needed an I/O board. I don't know why the USB port no longer accepted a cable. I didn't care. I just wanted it fixed. I expect to pay for service.

MicroCenter was professional and earned the business.

The dummy at AC could have ascertained that the Mac was out of warranty. The Mac has a serial number the last time I checked. He chose not to do so. Rudeness does not generate sales.

I wasn't there and don't know what went on. It's a fact that no company can satisfy it's customers 100% of the time. From what I've seen first hand and read here; apple is one of the companies that attempt to go the extra mile. Sometimes they don't make it and it's common with all companies.

Sometimes consumers get the service they should get and sometimes they don't (and that is for both positive and negative). If you weren't satisfied you should have escalated it.

Can Apple close the gap to the S6's hardware?

Human beings can be rude. We come in all shapes and sizes with varying personalities so it could be that you had dealings with a person who didn't follow company protocol. It could be that Apple instructs its staff to be inconsistent i.e helpful to some and not so helpful to others lol. My wife had an iPhone 4 swapped 3 months out of warranty so in her case they exceeded expectations. I think with everything it's the manner in which you approach an issue that is instrumental with the outcome. On the whole Apple are known for having good service even if on some occasions it's not delivered correctly. Until it's fully automated we will have to deal with real people. ;)

My approach was very simple. I phoned the local Apple store for general information. I needed an I/O board. My question was if this is the necessary repair can it be done t the store or is it send out. I also asked for a ballpark quote.

The staffer at the store transferred the call to AC. The rest you already know.

I wanted a customer pay repair on an Mac. I called Apple. AC rep was rude. I called MicroCenter. MicroCenter was helpful. I had the work done at MicroCenter.

I'm glad you got good service in the end. :)

Hi, I didn't see a Genius. The contact was on the phone. I didn't get the AC reps name.

Thanks

Then you should likely have gotten their name and ruined their record. Nobody should ever allow bad service to happen. Then you should have gone to McroCenter anyway... >_>

Iv had gs3,gs4,gs5 ,droid x2,htc one and a few nexus devices and not once had any of them failed or needed warranty work done.

At the pace I see ios users about always being able to go to an apple store to fix there devices questions the quality of apple devices to me.

Carry on!

That's one way to look at it. I just wanted the work done. It never crossed my mind to move forward on the AC rep issue. My contact with AC has been very limited. I have not found AC helpful.

This contact was the only one that was with a discourteous AC rep. The others were courteous.

Oh, I perfectly understand the reasoning.

And I wouldn't complain if lexus gave me an is-f for the price of a Camry.

Obviously them making a faster phone at the same price is more possible than what you're saying.

Im not Apple al I can do is try to understand their decisions. The best place to let them know how you feel is the good ol' feedback button. Frankly their phones don't need to be faster; more battery life yes.

Yeah, their phones are fast enough TO ME. They do need more RAM, though. >_> Also, yeah, everyone give feedback that it needs a second gig of RAM.

In that case let's be honest; all the upgrades from the S6 fit into the same category.

You missed the point. Most people didn't upgrade to the iphone 6 because the email system was updated to handle any attachment, any time.

Most people wanted a new device with updated hardware and possibly the updated functionality of IOS 8.

Samsung supposedly sold a bunch of S6 phones on launch, why do you think that happened? Is it possibly the same rational as you are proposing as to why the iphone 6 launch was so popular?

You did get one thing totally incorrect: "They are good at advertising the simple things and make it come across as a major evolution." Touch ID anyone? Best integrated finger print scanner to date. Ipod? Put apple on the map and no they didn't invent the MP3 player. What apple is good at is innovating. They don't slam in hardware for bragging rights, which is why IMO their phones are a joy to use. (Not to mention the after sale support)

What Apple is good at is copying. These arent their ideas. They arent the first to use icons on a phone and arent the first to make MP3 players....as you said. Yes Samsung copies as well and im not pro Samsung. I buy what i like and havent exclusively used Samsungs phones but Apple has copied for years and you are calling it innovation.

Actually, it is all 40 million iPhone 6 users. Everyone upgraded from a previous iPhone or another brand phone to the iPhone 6 or 6+. Reason being is Apple is a master at promoting incremental upgrades like it's a whole other device or OS. They are good at advertising the simple things and make it come across as a major evolution.

Apple makes the average user feel like they have a phone that's top of the tech chain, when most of us tech heads know that's not true. If most of the average consumers knew that, and had true knowledge about competitors, iPhone sales would probably be at least 30% less than what it is today.

Yes, the average iPhone user probably just calls, texts, email, and listen to music the majority of the time. And that's pretty much how Apple wants the majority of it's consumers habits to stay. Cause once the majority of consumers demand the openness that Android has, Apple will be in trouble.

I'm not bashing the iPhone, it's a damn good smartphone. I'm just calling it like I see it. The average consumer can't demand what they are clueless about. But how long will that last?

Perfectly stated. Thank you.

Innovation is not just coming up with unique ideas or inventions though that nobody else has thought of. Innovation comes in many forms. It can also be classed as taking an idea and applying it in a new way, like taking a technology an using it in a system or industry that has never used it before. Apple innovated when they applied a reliable fingerprint reader on the iPhone 5S. Samsung innovated when they introduced an edge to the screen of their device. Just two examples.

Apple and Samsung are good innovators and this is clear from the present product ranges of both company's. Whether this fits in with what certain consumers define as innovation is another matter altogether.

Actually no. The S6 is a drastic upgrade in design and software.

No need for the "rolls eyes". This is not a pissing contest.

You missed the point. Most people didn't upgrade to the iphone 6 because the email system was updated to handle any attachment, any time.

Most people wanted a new device with updated hardware and possibly the updated functionality of IOS 8.

Then why is iPhone the top seller when other phones upgrades offer a bigger contrast of upgrade? It's cause of Apple's brand and marketing, and the fact that the average consumer is clueless about what the competition truly offers. But that's changing at whatever pace.

Samsung supposedly sold a bunch of S6 phones on launch, why do you think that happened? Is it possibly the same rational as you are proposing as to why the iphone 6 launch was so popular?

Samsung listened to it's consumers and critics. Let's not act like the whole "plastic vs premium feeling metal" wasn't the biggest topic when discussing Galaxy phones.

You did get one thing totally incorrect: "They are good at advertising the simple things and make it come across as a major evolution." Touch ID anyone? Best integrated finger print scanner to date. Yes, every 2 cycles or so Apple throws out an awesome feature while basically keeping everything else the same. I never said Apple was incompetent of advancing the iPhone/iOS. They are just too slow for my taste compared to the competition.
