After much deliberation I've decided on the Xs Max in gold 64GB w/AC+. it comes in at $1,997.84, just shy of 2K.
The extra storage was a luxury anyways if i was going to get it, i certainly don't need it. I'll transfer any excess to my computer and external hard drive when need be.

One thing that is for sure, I'm definitely not upgrading next year no matter what. 2020 for me.

Good for you! I’m getting the XS Max in Space Gray 256GB and it just comes shy of $2K for me too.

I won’t be upgrading for a while lol

Xs Max 64GB Silver probably for me. Was debating 256GB as well, but not getting that at this price.

Also not getting AppleCare since I get a second year of warranty with my CC and will use a case.

I am also getting the same model/colour/storage, I also deliberated between 256gb and 64gb.

I'll be able to live with 64gb if I use optimized storage for my photos.

I haven't justified the price at all and never will. I know I'm buying a luxury item that is not worth the price. I could get something similar for a much lower cost, however it
is something I want and will buy it anyways just because i want it.

Also i think the number of people who buy even at these prices will be huge. With the iUP program, carrier subsidies, and the fact that a lot of people need a new device, they will sell a crap load of them.

Fair enough, I said the same last year about the iPhone X haha so I won't argue.. but...

[doublepost=1536798961][/doublepost]For the iPhone XR on contract, I am guessing it will be similar to what the iPhone 8 Plus was last year at launch on contract...$359 for the 64GB, $559 for the 256GB version...presumably about $459 for the 128GB version.

The iPhone 8 here was $229 at launch for the 64GB version, but the 8 was cheaper at launch by 100$ than what the XR will be launching at.

299$ on contract would be possible, since the XR is 50$ US cheaper than the 8 Plus

Anything less will be a surprise. If it surprises and comes in at 249$ at launch, I will use some loyalty credits to get one for my mother as her contract will be up for renewal soon...she could use the larger display I think

As an aside, has anyone seen some specs on the XR? It looks to have the best battery life out of any iPhone, but it also looks to be quite heavy at 194g (about 20g more than the X, which many people felt was pretty heavy)

Does anyone know if I can use my Canadian credit card and buy an iPhone from Apple.com and have it shipped to a US address?

Gotta have billing address right otherwise it might get blocked by your credit card company. But I had that issue when I used my US dollar credit card. Just had to call apple to solve the issue.

I already have the right billing and credit card on my Apple account. When I logged into Apple.com website it just asked me for a shipping address and to confirm the billing address.

So assuming everything is correct, there should be no problem with having Canadian billing and a US shipping address?

I confirm 100% that you can buy on the American Store with a Canadian CC and even put the Canadian chilling address. I order only to do an in-store pickup often in Buffalo. You can try ahead of Friday by simulating a purchase.

Check your math folks. NY has sales tax. Even if you're planning to smuggle it across the border (which is a terrible idea), it's not going to save you much. Only way to do this and save money is to spend > 48 hours to get the $800 HST exemption AND buy it in a sales-tax free state.

If you factor in NY sales tax, gas, HST at the border, and USD fees on your credit card, there's a good chance it'll cost more than buying it in Canada.

NYC sales tax is 7.5%
Ontario is 13%

iPhone Xs 256.com - 1,149 USD
iPhone Xs 256.ca - 1,589 CAD

I don't remember Tangerine ever charging me any fees for buying products in USD.

Thus, I will wait one week and have a friend who is coming to Canada bring the iPhone.

Is your friend planning to stuff it up his ass on the way into Canada? If he doesn't declare it (pay HST) at the border, it's five years of guaranteed secondary searches + a fine (usually 30-40%) + possibly even seizing the device if the border officer is in a bad mood. Smuggling things through the border is a dumb idea.

1149 * 1.075 * exchange rate = $1605 CAD. If your friend pays HST, it cost you $16 more. If your friend doesn't pay HST, you save $190 at best or end up with no iPhone at worst.

We're not all in for the savings. The reason why I buy it from the US is to get the Verizon version and also the Qualcomm version.

All 2018 iPhones use Intel basebands and the XS and XS Max have only two models - China and non-China. No more verizon/at&t, etc. It's unclear why there are two models listed for NA (A1920 and A1921) when both of them support the exact same bands including CDMA and GSM.

EDIT: A1920 = XS, A1921 = XS Max. There is only 1 version in North America.

Yes but like the iPhone 5s, CDMA will be disabled in Canada. Unless you got it from the US, you won't be able to pop in a Verizon SIM in the US. It even shows it on the page
  • Model A1920 (GSM)
  • Model A1920 (CDMA)
I go often and Verizon is the only carrier with decent LTE coverage and speed.
Also we are not actually 100% sure yet that it's an Intel radio

I am hoping to catch a instore pick up on launch day for the 512g gold max. If not then delivery to home on launch day.

So what’s the going strategy for preordering for the earliest date? Put everything in the cart ahead of time and click checkout as soon as it goes live?

I changed my mind after sleeping on it. 256GB lol. I'm keeping the phone for 2 years, in 2 years 64GB storage will feel like 16GB does now.

Already have my funds loaded on a gift card and am ready to go

I'm still debating on taking the plunge on a 256gb XS Max or sticking with my 7plus for another year. I held out last year as I wanted the x in the bigger form factor but these prices are crazy. The 7plus is still an amazing phone so there's no urgent need to upgrade but the new screens ive been lusting after.
