Can't get on EDGE network! ("Could not activate EDGE")

Down still in Pasadena, CA

since about 9:30ish am this morning... blue E, but no data. wifi works great.. iphone works great.. AT&T SUCKAGE...

power cycle...of iPhone, does not help me. 2 others in office with same issue.. no EDGE data at all.

EDGE is back as of 15:35 here in Pasadena, CA... 6 hours of downtime...x-fingers it stays up.

Heh, it's 4:05pm Central, and my phone thinks it's 3:37pm...

I'm gonna try a power cycle, see if that does anything...

Yep, works fine now!

Give that a try everybody, let us know if it works.

(Reminder - hold the sleep/wake button for a few seconds until the power off confirmation slider appears.)

Not for me, wish it was that easy. I've reset the SIM card (per AT&T's request), soft reboot, hard reset, tuned Wi-Fi on and on, airplane mode off and on... No such luck

I have a buddy who is in the same building as me and his iPhone works fine! :confused:

However, unlike most people who have had this issue, my EDGE hasn't been working since late Saturday night.

Oh well, bragging at work today just wasn't the same... :)

I am in Michigan getting the E signifying I am on the Edge network but I can't get email, use safari or any if the widgets.

On hold with at&t now, will report back after they figure something out or brush me off.

North of Seattle (mill creek) here - edge down down down.

This sucks - and I've been an AT&T customer for over a decade - somebody made a major mistake...

EDGE was working this morning in Sacramento...

but it's down now (2:45pm PST)

EDIT:

Just rebooted the device... EDGE came up immediatly.

I'm in Anaheim, CA. I've had full bars and 'E' all day but not internet since around 10am. I called AT&T and the girl asks me if I've REMOVED THE BATTERY TO RESET IT!!!!! I informed the person at the ATT iPhone Support that the iPhone DOESN'T HAVE A REMOVEABLE BATTTERY!!! She then transferred me to Apple. Apple informed me of the ATT outage.

I hope they get this fixed up quickly.

Down here in Boston, MA, as well...worked occasionally throughout the day, but mainly down. Has been working on the weekend though.

Just called AT&T to complain/check in, and they know it's down, there's a whole bunch of places down (she wouldn't tell me where, or how many, other than 'Lots - lots and lots of outages'), but she did say that her system showed expected remaining downtime of 147 minutes... taking us to ~5:30pst.

Given that today is 'show-off' day for the iPhone, where early adopters show prospective buyers how cool and amazing their phone is, having the network crash for the entire day is incredibly humiliating and costly for AT&T and Apple... and this from the POV of an existing Cingular customer who has been pretty happy with them.

I can't imagine how someone new to the network who moved for the iPhone and was already a little wary must be feeling.

I'm in Seattle, and have been trying to use EDGE most of the day - with it working none of the time.

It looks like it's connected, but whenever I try to get email, or surf and address, it gives me an error saying the host can't be found...

Here's to those EDGE upgrades we've been hearing about. Why did AT&T overpromise? "We've increased our capacity on our EDGE network..." Blah Blah Blah...

I've go your EDGE network, right here...:)

So now we have two people confirming that a power-cycle fixed their EDGE issue. It could be that it has been restored in some areas, and a power-cycle is needed.

Please, for those of you posting with issues - can you confirm in your posting whether you've power-cycled the device?

Exactly the same here in Oregon. My last update was about 10:00am. Same with two other people's iPhones in the office.

After sitting on hold for a long time, at&t finally said they had a network issue with NO ETA.

She hoped it would be fixed within 24 hrs.

Burbank Edge is out too. TG for WIFI!

We are not getting Edge in Burbank.. all the studios are down..

You'd think that ATT being as big as they are, and relying on the iPhone to turn their image around, would've planned and tested for this (and activation) months before the 29th.

Sheesh.

A buddy in the know at at&t says that a major datacenter in Texas went down today after a bridge was overloaded. It's quite a priority, so they're working on it dilligently.
