Will this game run smoothly on my MACbook Pro?

I meet the minimum requirements;however, I'm still leery that the game will become choppy as the map opens up...I'm not great with Mac hardware so I'd appreciate any feedback! Thank you!

2.66 Ghz intel core duo processor
4GB 1066 MHZ DDR3 SDRAM
15.4 inch/1440 X 900
NVIDIA GEFORCE 9400M and NVIDIA Geforce 9600M GT with 256MB of GDDR3 Memory
I'll have to upgrade to snow leopard to make it so.....

Thanks!

Civ V is $39.99 for PC on amazon.com. Once you buy it, you can download the Mac version free through SteamPlay.

Hey,
Since the only way to play online is through friends invite on Steam, with people also playing the Mac version, I made this group:
Civilization 5 Mac Players

Join up and we'll be able to organize some online games through the Steam Lobby.

You should be fine, the 9600 is decent.

There's no link to the group, BTW.

I have to say, I'm very reluctant to play multi and possibly ruin the game for everybody involved. (I'm pretty awful, and simultaneous turns sounds pretty crazy.)

Had my first total freeze when meeting Siam for the first time in a game - thankfully, Command-Option-Esc worked and so did a previous save.

Will Civ V work on a Late 2009 Macbook White Unibody with Nvidia 9400m? I have upgraded the ram to 4gig.

Has anybody tried it out on these settings

I'm just under on the processor speed but everything else meets minimum.

Enclosure Precision aluminum unibody
Processor 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
L2 Cache 3MB shared
System bus 1066MHz
Memory 2GB (two 1GB SO-DIMMs) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM; supports up to 8GB
Hard drive1 160GB Serial ATA; 5400 rpm
Slot-loading optical drive 8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory2

Ok,
I played online yesterday with someone else and we had no problems besides the official bugs (city offering to attack even if it already did is the most notable one).

But then I have a brand new iMac so you would expect a stable experience.

The game has supposedly a memory issue that can lead up to 6 gigs of ram used.

I'm playing on a macbook pro 2.4ghz 4mg ram 256mg graphics. pc version plays really nicely thru bootcamp with all settings on Medium, but is a real dog with the mac version, VERY slow. The open cut-scene blacks out halfway down the screen :-( and the ingame graphics don't look as smooth on the same settings. Any ideas?

AAaaaaaarrrrrgghgh....

We regret to inform you that the following items have been delayed as we are still awaiting stock from our suppliers :

"Sid Meier's Civilization V (Mac)"
Estimated arrival date: December 17 2010

God damnit, amazon.co.uk!!

Cancel it and buy it from steam. You'll be playing it within 2 hours.

I can buy throwaway stuff like music or casual games through digital delivery, no problem.

But a game I potentially want to revisit in 10 years (I still have 20 year old games in my collection), sorry, I want a physical product that won't go *poof* all of a sudden for whatever reason.

If you're that worried about it, you shouldn't buy the game at all. The game is tied to steam, there is no difference between downloading it from there, or getting a boxed version. Steam has a backup option, if you really want to make a hard copy of it.

Valve has said if Steam goes belly-up, they will remove the DRM. And if they don't, there are ways...

Is that the 8600M GT? I'm definitely gonna pick this game up when there is a god sale, especially with SteamPlay, but preferably I'd run it in OSX.

Some info about the Multiplayer:

* The Mac/PC version are not the same atm, therefore incompatible. I did receive an Email from Aspyr saying it will be fixed eventually, some other people said they received news that it will be fixed soon.

* The in-game lobby for Multiplayer is limited to the selected download-region in Steam's preferences, which means you can only see games that are hosted in your town (and btw not those in progress). The same problem exist for PC.

*** There is a workaround however: for international gaming you must join a host from the Steam Friends list, or preferably from a Group chat room. This work flawlessly if connecting to another Mac and it is damn addictive with the simultaneous turns (like Civ4, a few bugs but a better battle system and overall balance - works well with 2-4 players).

I also found the friendliest group of dedicated online players: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/civplayers

They are very Mac friendly and all the best games seems to be there. We tried with me to get some Mac/PC game going but it will not work until the Mac version is updated.

A few more Mac players there and we could have some games rolling! So please join!

@Yanr. I'm playing on a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256mg. I also noticed last night that the leader cutscences start out alright but then get very very laggy

What about my iMac as per the signature below? Does it run OK? The GPU is a famed 8800GS 512Mb...I don't really if it's not in native 1920x1200, as long as image quality is high.

It should run on low-medium settings (played with someone with a 2007 iMac and he said he was running on low settings). The settings are quite customizable.

civ5 works better on smaller games through (6-8 players-small maps).

Fails to launch on Mid 2010 MBP

Civ V launched from Steam creates a black screen for a few seconds, the sound starts, then a low-res flicker, and back to the steam screen. Won't launch at all. Mid 2010 MBP 15" 2.66 330M 8GB 10.6.5.

Many other reports floating around - avoid this turkey.

Windows saves on Mac?

Anyone know if it's possible to play a game saved using the Windows version of Civ 5 with the OSX version?

I have a pretty good single player game going under the Windows version and I'd love to finish it without switching to bootcamp. Thanks!
