I hate true tone. Looks like someone came all over the screen. I turned that off real quick! Now it's prefect.

They really should have it off in default settings and inverse, hold that button to show what it looks like on not off from on until you get to home screen and into settings

I was stuck on a concerning looking screen for 2h waiting for activation but I figured that wasn’t it until I turned TT off

Still... the suspense !

This thread is getting me closer and closer to opening up a ticket with Apple Support. But what do you guys think, is the best option returning it completely and just ordering another one and waiting forever? Or should I have them send me one by mail (white box)?

I am a photographer and have been waiting patiently to upgrade to the iPhone X since my last phone has been the 6 (not even the S). And I was like most of you here disappointed by the screen color tone and something about it didn’t feel as nice and solid compared to the LCD of my previous iPhone and iPads.

Having said that. I think there are two issues. 1. The overall yellow tint. 2. The off angle viewing color shift.

What I have found is mainly a solution to the first problem. And it kind of takes care of the second problem a bit on its way.

What you should try doing is going to Settings - General - Accessibility - Display Accomodations - Color Filters

Once in there, turn it on. And select “Color Tint” from the options.

Keep the “intensity” at the lowest possible setting.

And move the “hue” to about 2/3 of the way. Then once generally there. Slightly fine tune it by moving it left and right. To the left you’ll get a more green tint. To the right you’ll get a more red tint. In the middle you’ll have a perfect blue tint to counteract the yellowness of the display and give you something as close to neutral white as possible.

To check your results scroll back up and toggle the “Color Filters” on and off to see the difference.

I attached a screenshot of the setting.

Hope this helps.

Nick
What is your reduce White point set at if any?

It’s a lose lose situation. True Tone looks like cepiatone and with it turned off it looks like you are in a smurf movie or something. This screen blows.

As a photographer, I appreciate your post, nice little setting I didn't know about. Unfortunately, regardless of settings, once my phone gets at an angle, it straight up turns color. No settings can fix that unfortunately. The screen dead on is gorgeous though. Sad.
Yes I may give it a few days to try and get used to it, if not I can exchange it for a plus. Other than that I love the phone.

So that’s the answer? The screen is bad and people just say o that’s OLED. My wife’s 7s looks considerably nicer next to this thing.

Yeah I mean I would
Try another cus mine looks night and day better than my excellent 7p

Hey Randy, White Point Reduction is off and True Tone is off. But I am seeing in those forums and as I think some of us are learning about the randomness of OLED, so I think experimenting with true tone on can help balance things out. I think White Point Reduction is just to reduce the intensity of the highlights which gives the illusion of the color tint disappearing, because the white isn't as bright, so I would recommend keeping that off if it's just to adjust the tint or color of the display.

Turning off true tone AND White balance really helped and added “pop” to the screen. Thanks nicolaselhani!!! Your display accommodations are on, color tint on, intensity lowest setti

My X when I got it last night, had a VERY yellow tint to it, so I turned off TrueTone, that seemed to fix it to make scree whiter/brighter, any big downside to leaving it off?

No that’s it’s normal function.

True Tone is an added feature

Just keep auto brightness on in accessibility. Leaving it off forever could make the OLED degrade.

I’m glad I could help man. Hopefully we can all get used to the screen soon.

Got a replacement iPhone X. It’s no better. Bear in mind I’m not expecting perfection. I just don’t want the screen turning green in multiple places when staring at the phone head on!

It’s all the more frustrating when my wife’s iPhone X is as close to perfect as you could imagine. No color shift head on at all. It’s maddening.

Didn’t even bother activating it. Back to Apple it goes.

I’m sorry to hear about the issues you’re having finding an acceptable screen. I keep going back and forth from “I’m just being OCD, it’s perfectly fine and the replacement will be worse” to “I can’t unsee this and I shouldn’t settle”. Mind if I ask if you are getting replacements sent to you in the mail via AppleCare or is it in store? And have they questioned it at all?

How did you get your replacement? New Apple online retail swap or support request swap? How long did it take?
[doublepost=1509864848][/doublepost]Sorry guys - also if you bought from Apple store online what’s the best and quickest way to get a retail replacement, not a white box Apple support one? Also what’s the lead time for these as online availability is still showing as 4 weeks delivery. Thanks
