How did you get your replacement? New Apple online retail swap or support request swap? How long did it take?
[doublepost=1509864848][/doublepost]Sorry guys - also if you bought from Apple store online what’s the best and quickest way to get a retail replacement, not a white box Apple support one? Also what’s the lead time for these as online availability is still showing as 4 weeks delivery. Thanks

Same questions here as I may be needing to do a return. It sucks to think to get a retail unit you would have to return this one and be without an X for 4 weeks and hope it’s not worse than your original. First world problems but annoying nonetheless. I verified with Apple support that if you do an AppleCare swap, you will no longer be able to return the device within your 14 day window. :/

I just bought another for in-store pickup. I still have my original. I will be returning both for sure.

Where did you get yours from? Did you try to pursue an online retail swap based on the faulty screen?

In the past when I had issues with my 5S (launch day) Apple let me keep the current defective version until the new retail one arrived which was within the 14 day period. Not sure if they still do that, especially with the X avaliability.

Cheers thanks - lucky to get in store avaliabilty, everything is sold out in London and surrounding areas
Why do you care whether it’s white box or retail? At this point any replacement will be factory fresh, there hasn’t been time to refurb any yet.

80% of people complaining here about MAJOR blue shift (let's admit there are people who have minor blue shift) seem to have a serial starting with G6...

Again, it would be worth collecting this info ( for either exchange or possible class action )

In my country, we have 14 days (so until the 17th) to send the device back (no question asked) and it's important to do so as with apple's "emergency pr stunt" to say that crappy display are normal, they basically prevent you to send them back after that. So be quick, if your local laws protect you that is.

If you get a white box there is no way you can return, it will have to be swapped out via the support route. With a retail replacement the 14 days will restart so if you continue to encounter issues you can still resort to a refund.

Also with a white box the serial numbers will be different to your box so not good for future resale.

That's not necessarily true. They may refurb failed units off the production lines, or have B-grade products come off the line the pass most tests, but aren't that A-level quality required for the final boxed product.

Apples official position on color shifting etc...

“If you look at an OLED display off-angle, you might notice slight shifts in color and hue. This is a characteristic of OLED and is normal behavior. With extended long-term use, OLED displays can also show slight visual changes. This is also expected behavior and can include ‘image persistence’ or ‘burn-in,’ where the display shows a faint remnant of an image even after a new image appears on the screen. This can occur in more extreme cases such as when the same high contrast image is continuously displayed for prolonged periods of time. We’ve engineered the Super Retina display to be the best in the industry in reducing the effects of OLED ‘burn-in.'”

Yes; and believe me I wouldn't be complaining about "slight shifts".

I'm complaining about shifts so large than even looking straight down at your phone, the top of the screen has a different color than the bottom

The phone turns out blue (not bluehish or "a shift") at large angle (see my avatar)

Again also bear in mind we're supposed to have "super duper true tone" thing activated, quite frankly the effect of moving my head 30 cm is much larger that the entire spectrum of action of true tone. It makes it ridiculous.

This is what I'm seeing everyday since Friday. And some other member in this thread as well, one of which successuflly swaped his blue phone to a working one, and another member had twice the same problem. Read the previous pages for details.

My bad phone start F17 and my wife’s perfect phone starts G6. I’ll check the other in the morning, but G6 is a winner in this household.

Haw crap then it's just a lottery.

Could you make a picture of both for the sceptics out there ?
Disable TT, put brightness 100%, and it should be the same tint on both...

Both of my Silver 256GB have this burn in issue. While Apple claims this is normal, it shouldn't happen for a $1000+ phones and what worse is Apple released the statement after product release (that's convenient!!).

For those of you who don't know this:

The first 5 minutes I played with the phone, I notice something is off.
The screen looks yellowish and too warm. It would look like night shift on. It doesn't look true tone at all. With true ton off, it became cooler, bluish a bit. Use the phone as GPS like I do, put in the middle of your car, you will know that this OLED screen sucks! Burn-in, Imperfect production.

Will send both phones back tomorrow.

They would avoid the sh*tstorm that's coming by quickly acknowledging the problem , define a metric of what's good and what's not, and propose a replacement program to the affected customers.

Instead, they prefered to slap their most loyal "day 1 flagship" in the face, send a statement after delivery of the product to cover themselves, and basically they try to lock you in with it.

The return rates of the X must be "off the charts" as well, Tim...

This is not surprising for those who already had contact with smartphones with OLED displays.
When Apple introduced the model, stating it would be featuring an OLED display, I decided immediately that I wouldn't be buying it.
That and the lack of Touch ID.
No one convinces me that the only reason Face ID was included on the iPhone X was the fact Apple couldn't find a way of integrating TouchID under the display.
IT was already demonstrated that TouchID is quicker and more convenient.
Just counting the days Apple will acknowledge the mistake and bring back the TouchID.
Wait for it.... wait for it....

So why do you think they got rid of Touch ID then?

Do you have pics of this “burn in?”

Because in my experience with OLED devices, which goes back to the Nexus S, burn in on a device purchased 48 hrs ago is unheard of.

And did you bother to calibrate your display which is a normal thing for flagship devices featuring OLED panels.

They will not bring back Touch ID. You’re going to be waiting for it for a long time that’s for sure.

Got a replacement iPhone X. It’s no better. Bear in mind I’m not expecting perfection. I just don’t want the screen turning green in multiple places when staring at the phone head on!

It’s all the more frustrating when my wife’s iPhone X is as close to perfect as you could imagine. No color shift head on at all. It’s maddening.

Didn’t even bother activating it. Back to Apple it goes.

It would be very interesting to see a comparison photo/video between the perfect unit and faulty one if you still have one (horizontal and vertical off-axis color shifts).

Mine starts F17, tilting back a few degrees the change in hue occurs. If it started at 30-45 degrees or so then I wouldn’t find it much of a problem. It makes True Tone completely pointless. I’ve tried the calibration and it just makes the hue change even more blue.

Oh I can also see the home bar faintly at the bottom of the screen when going into app switcher.

Thanks @S3rv3d : I think MacRumors & rest of the media will soon start to understand that this bluegate is a real problem. I agree with the true tone beeing pointless on such screen.

If Apple doesn't quickly create an exchange program, a lawyer will simply jump in our bandwagon and turn this into class action.

We'll see how it goes on monday.

I really want to keep this phone. But this is making it hard too. I find the colour shift strange when viewing especially when reading text on this site. Makes my eyes go weird, kinda like going cross eyed. I have to refocus on the screen. It’s not comfortable to read with the shift. I also have dust/hair under the lens of the rear camera. It’s not in a position to affect the images but annoying it’s there.

I would like to get a replacement but I won’t accept a white box. I don’t think there is walk in stock available though for a retail boxed unit.

After i calibrated my device using the instructions from a couple pages ago. The yellow tint is gone. Everything even looks crispier which i wasn’t expecting..
for those that haven’t tried the color filtering tools. Give it a go now!
For those who think that they shouldn’t have to do that and that it should be set up out of the box. You have a point. But they didn’t use your personal preferences for the setup. They did what they thought was best. Now use your personal opinions of what a device should look like. And tune it for yourself. It takes like 2 minutes.
