Just watched this video and the screen looks fantastic

Agreed their model looks great. Would need to know if they have autobrightness
Then it's bad for real. My X screen looks fantastic next to my old 6S Plus and my friend's 8 Plus. With Auto Brightness off the X blows both phones out of the water and makes them look very outdated.
Clearly there are good ones out there which makes this thread so much more painful.

Congrats on getting a good one.

I just turned TT off, and all my display accommodations off with auto brightness on and brightness set to full - I then compared my 7+, iPad mini 4 and iPhone X.

The iPhone X looks to be the most natural white when viewed head on. I do get a slight pink shift for 1/3 off the screen for a few degrees, then it shifts to blue, not THAT bad really. But also, NOT YELLOW.

Both the iPad mini 4 and 7+ appear duller, but still white.

Now when viewed in a photo, the X looks more pinkish, and the mini and 7+ appear greener - probably down to the filter layers.

Of note: my iPhone X appears identical to my iMac, and the iMac is set to D65.

The iPhone X is the Brightest of all displays even with auto-brightness on.

TT does give the screen a definite yellow cast that I don't like, not the same as night shift yellow, more of a dull 100 year old piece of paper look.

I’m still confused to what the problem is or what you are all seeing.

My screen is uniform and cold with TT off. TT on is a bit too yellow for my liking. What is all the shifting left and right about?

Haha, while I understand what some of them are seeing, it's kind of hard to establish what a primo screen would look like at this point, this thread is all over the place, with no distinct examples of what the X screen is ideally supposed to look like. I would really like to see someone post exactly what the X's OLED should be displaying...

Posting videos and judging based on them is not a good idea. You guys all saw how appalling my first iPhone X looked. I posted pictures of it. When I took it back to the Apple Store, they wanted to see it there - and of course - under their big bright lights it looks just fine with the brightness cranked to the max. I knew it would be a fruitless experiment. They questioned my reasons for bringing the phone back - but of course had no choice but to refund me.

I hate being in that position...

The screen shifts to a blue tint when viewed from and angle, which is normal with OLEDS, and still better than the dull off angle look of LCDs IMHO.

Kind of hard when everyones eyesight is different.

Some people see an off white color as pure white, and some see a bluish white as pure white.

So what’s the problem then? Mine shifts a little blue left to right and up and down. I assume it’s normal but it’s also uniformally cold which is nice.

You got a good one. This thread is also full of people who got what they perceive as bad ones. Happens with every product launch sadly but expections are high because this is such an expensive device and rightly so. Hopefully people will swap out to a good display model/live with it/return for refund.

Two problems.
The blue shift which I personally don’t care about.

The yellow screen with TT off and night shift off auto brightness off screen turned all way up down what have you.

Maybe need two threads dunno

The problem is that some of the shifts are extreme I guess. Mine isn't that bad either, and even has a tad of pink before the blue shift.

I’m lucky then because I have had piss yellow screens that are blocthly in areas from Apple in the past and played the lottery game.

This one is uniform cold with TT off and I really like it.

Hope everyone gets theirs sorted.

Any pics of a dud one?

This picture has a characteristic of bright white and slight tint on blue with TT turned off on my screen.

How does it look on yours?

This is my strange yellow screen when I switched off the True tone. And I assume this is a defect.
I make an appointment with Genius Bar tomorrow. Better to replacement.

This is exactly what I see when comparing my 6s to X display models (TT & NS turned off). No way I'm buying an X that looks like this nor will I play the lottery and hope to get a good one either. It shouldn't have to come to that.

To be honest, I can live with that slight difference. Quite negligible IMO.

Mind sharing a picture showing the top portion brigher than the bottom?

Silver model looks good. Minimum brightness on mine is so dark I couldn’t imagine using it.

Mine is the same on minimum brightness. No worries though.

Whenever I have a new phone, I find myself reading threads like these each and every time.

I should finally learn how to just enjoy my phones and quit looking for flaws by reading threads like these.

I’ll tell you how it looks lol. As stated earlier the image you posted when in the top half of my screen has a yellow tint. Scrolling the image down to the bottom half of the screen the yellow tint goes away. The phone is being viewed dead in to my face. This is highly noticeable on a website like macrumors because of all the white in the background in the forums. I’m not sure what to do at this point. People here are saying Apple Store is out of stock for weeks well then that will put me out of the 14 days window. Then if you do a white box exchange then that means you can never return the phone (but can you keep exchanging white box exchanges)? I’m honestly really frustrated right now because of the fact that I have noticed this it bothers me every time I view this forum.

My 256gb silver has a warmer screen head on and cool white when tilted. Put it beside my 8 plus, iPad Pro, imac and MacBook Pro it looks yellow However I took a pic of it beside my cool white 8 plus and it looks pink while my 8 plus looks yellow! This is with True Tone off as I hate it and turn it off on all my devices anyway. At least the screen is even I guess.

I keep checking reservations to buy another one to compare but so far no more stock. I did purchase an extra one at launch and it was identical to mine. Ended up selling it to somebody who wanted it.

So frustrating as I love the phone otherwise.

Been missing around with mine. So far with true tone on it does give it almost night shift yellow tent. With it off it does have a slight warm but with true whites. laying beside an S8 it looks little blue while the s8 looks little red. I can live with this
I for one won’t. Not at $1,250.00

I get a tint even at a 1 degree motion:

Debating returning it. It really stresses the eyes.

Ya same here. It gives me a headache in the evening. No issues on my partners silver. I think the belkin inviglass makes it worse to be honest.

But your screen looks well balanced in colour temp
