It is a peculiar “affliction” i first ever saw for myself on my Samsung S8+ display. Samsung issued a software “fix” that allowed us to calibrate the hue of our edges. It works but I am forced to use the Adaptive display setting that is over saturated vs the other two display presets that are more natural and accurate. Adaptive is the only preset that lets you adjust the color temperature of your display.I have this same pink hot edge running down the right side of the phone. Luckily I don’t have the yellow tint issue. Kind of noticeable when reading text from left to right.
Question for you all: Is the hot pink edge issue common in OLED screens? It kind of bothers me but there’s no way in hell im starting the panel lottery for it to end up with a yellow panel. If it’s a common thing I think I can convince my brain to accept it
So, the pink edge is a hardware flaw that Samsung mitigated via software. I don’t expect Apple to issue such a fix because iOS doesn’t allow you to fine tune the color temperature on your display.
I have not seen or heard of this flaw on earlier generations of Samsung phones and it’s not apparent in the ones I’ve owned prior to the S8+.
I tried and tried and tried to get used to it but never did. If not for the software fix I am sure I would have traded the S8+ in for a Note 8 by now. I don’t own an IPhone X but if I were to get one and see that pink edge, the phone would be going right back into the box and back to Apple. I did want to return my S8+ but Samsung has only one customer service number and it was getting hammered the entire duration of my return period. I couldn’t afford to wait an hour to several hours on hold just to get an RMA.

Exactly. Many times I’ve posted under different threads in which MR users were clamoring for OLED and chastising Apple for still using LCDs that everyone better be careful what they wish for. People here were talking like OLED would solve all of their display complaints. I’d started using Samsung phones in summer of 2016 and due to two recalls and different issues my husband and I ended up using 4 Note 7s, 2 S7 Edges, 2 S7’s, and 2 S8+. I noticed many variances and issues amongst all of these OLED displays.Yup to all...that's OLED for ya. Have myself experienced these OLED screen anomalies on many Samsung phones in the past.
Keeping my iPhone 8 Plus
I tried to warn people. I’m sad to see that people here are struggling with their displays. But yes, people, this is OLED. The pink hue I’m seeing in some pictures is new to me and I first experienced it with my S8+ this year. It was a “thing” with the S8 and S8+ models that many were afflicted with. I don’t see it as much on later versions of the same models so Samsung must either be calibrating for it in the factory now or found a way to avoid it in the production line. I can only guess.
FWIW, my husband’s iPhone X seems flawless, though it does have a very slight off-axis blue shift. It’s very mild, though.
