So the complaints here seem to be that some people's displays are too blue, some are too yellow, and most are upset because of the way the OLED displays are designed which produces more prominent color shifts. Yep, this all makes sense.

Guys there is definitely a difference between good panels and not so good panels. I compared mine to my friend’s and mine was yellowish with hot pink corners as others have described. I was going nuts for the last few days and finally today I had an appointment with Genius Bar. After much explaining and effort I got my phone exchanged. The new unit is definitely better screen though still not perfect but I am content now. If you have bad screen then don’t settle for it. There are better ones out there.

Didn't you just advise people not to settle, and then settle?

What I meant to say was that the new unit is close to perfect. Don’t settle for a bad screen.

You’re spot on. I also had a piss yellow screen. Took the 30 mike trek to my nearest Apple store. Genius there said my display was “suboptimal”. I had to return the following day for my replacement but the new phone is perfect.

For the trolls who insist this is normal for OLED panels you are idiots.

If you have a defective panel you will definitely know. Even slight shifts in the phone angle while typing go from yellow to White to yellow. Go to your Apple store if you're having this issue.

This.

It shouldn’t be that micro angular adjustments completely throw your game off

Off axis tint is characteRistic of OLED. But when u seen a good and a bad one you know it’s a lottery

I been stalking this forum since I got the X. I just had an appointment at Apple regarding the “yellow screen”
All of the display models there seemed OK but that’s just because of the extremely light brighting Apple stores have. I addressed this issue to them that it is most notable when the lightning isn’t so bright, they kindly brought me into the back and multiple employees had their X also and They just all looked at me strange when I said everyone’s looked yellow ish. They all said this was just part of the new OLED and the color switching at angles and noticble tints etc are Just part of the X, they offered I could switch to the 8 but I guess I’ll hold out for now. So I don’t know what to say at this point after spending about $1200 lol
Forgot to mention they did offer to exchange for another X but I didn’t feel like going through that process plus I already paid for an expensive screen protector and imagine having the same issue in the exchanged one lol

New Space Gray 256gb X and the screen is notacibly whiter than the silver one I just returned.

Still has a tiny bit of color shift to that cool blue if I tilt the phone back, but not nearly as much as the previous device.

Most importantly the screen exhibits no signs of yellowing at all.

So all in all, it's a lottery with the X at the moment.

So is it worth it taking lottery chance at exchanging my X for a new one? Don’t wanna waste my time if my X isn’t really as bad but definitely noticeable compared to my 7.

it depends how bad your screen is. If it is not too bad and you don’t get bothered by it then I guess it would be better not taking a chance of getting a even worst screen. Otherwise I will take my chance and exchange.

My screen look reddish instead of yellowish. It’s like there is a “light version of night shift mode” but night Shift is off. Is it the same kind of problem ? Is it normal or should I go change the phone ?

Is your screen uniform in brightness and Color? With True Tone it is normal for the screen to turn moderately yellow but not too much. Also try and turn True Tone off. It should be bluish white now.

With True Tone the screen is red without True Tone it’s still reddish but less. To get a proper white I need to change the hue setting.
For what concern the uniformity of the dark grey I wouldn’t say it’s uniform since it’s darker near the homebar and with more light in the camera zone. The thing is worrying me is that to get a proper white I have to change the tint settings otherwise it’s definetely reddish (even without true tone). Is it like that for everyone ?

With True Tone off on my X I get Barry to no yellow tint but a heavyish blue tint... is this a bad screen?

I think it’s a good one since I still get a reddish display even with True Tone off. But I don’t know tbh maybe it has to be reddish. Let’s wait for someone with better information on what should be the standard

Does True Tone off effect the OLED benefits on the phone itself? I don’t wanna have it off and have a phone like this for nothing lol

Slight reddish is fine. That’s how my current screen is. Proper white Color preference is different for everyone. Some people like blue whites while some prefer neutral or more warm white.

True Tone is not specifically for OLED panel. It is available for iPhone 8 as well. It basically adjust the white point of the display to make it show accurate colours under different ambient lighting conditions.

I gave True Tone an honest chance on my iPhone X for my first week of use. It looks fine in sunlight, but in low light and under fluorescent lights it makes the screen look way too yellow.

With True Tone off, my screen looks basically the way it's supposed to. So I've turned it off, and I'm leaving it off.

If the whole idea of True Tone is that it's supposed to adjust the screen's white point to match ambient lighting, then either True Tone is broken or my brain's colour perception is.

I agree. Its basically night shift in disguise.
