Holy Crap...I think just found out how to solve the aggressive yellow tone on the iPhone X screen (with True Tone ON) !!!

No joke. Try this. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > turn True Tone ON.

Then go to Night Shift and slide the Colour Temperature slider all the way to the left (‘less warm’). The Night Shift setting btw is still OFF.

On my phone the screen immediately turned a normal colour...the way it is on my iPhone 8 Plus with True Tone ON. No extreme yellow tone anymore.

It looks like somehow the ‘colour temperature’ setting was activated even with Night Shift OFF!!!

Try it and let us know...

Happy Bunny!

I think you are right, I just tried it and seems better, will try it tomorrow in the morning to be sure. I knew this yellow screen issue is somehow releated to software, because sometimes it happens that the screen has normal white color and then suddenly shifts to yellow... hopefully they will fix it

Whoa....that really did make a difference. Screen went from really yellowish and warm, to what I perceive as "normal"

THANK YOU! Doing this, then turning True Tone off again made a big difference for me. Display looks a lot cooler (though still not as cool as the 7). Glad to know it seems to be a software issue for the most part.

I tried this on my 7+ and it helped make my display Whiter.

How it is possible it doesn’t work for some of us? We have all the same firmware I suppose :)

When I move the Night shift intensity bar it returns a preview of the Ns temperature (cooler or warmer) but once I release the display looks like before.

Maybe we’re doing it in wrong way? Can’t understand...

Or maybe it is some placebo effect for some of us :D

It could be

Anyway, I like to experiment that kind of placebo too, i’m Looking Like a mad for a way to improve the overall cool-temperature without turn on the accommodation filters...

Pretty close. I think what's happening is the brief, intense flash of yellow caused by moving the Night Shift slider is tricking the brain's visual cortex into resetting its perceived white balance, making True Tone temporarily look less yellow than it would otherwise.

The effect only lasts a couple minutes for me, after which True Tone starts looking yellow again.

I went to my local Apple Store tonight.

On 20 iPhones X on display, 18 were shifting to blue when tilted (90%)
2 were shifting to pink (10%)

I feel the shifting to pink is more annoying because it is more dramatic at a slight angle : it's like having night shift on and off just by tilting slightly the iPhone to the left or the right (which is a normal usage)

Unfortunately I have an iPhone X shifting to pink.

I feel I will have no other choice but to return it because it is too distracting.

It's a shame though, this iPhone X was perfect on all other levels, but the pink shifting is really annoying :(

Thoughts? My 7 on the left at full brightness, True Tone and auto brightness off in all pics.

First two pics are with color filters off, second two are with color filters on.

I noticed the same thing at the Grand Central store in NYC. I saw maybe 3 units out of 10 shifting to pink. It looked annoying, frankly speaking. My unit shows a very slight hint of it before shifting to blue. That is the scenario that most of them have. There were maybe 2 units that didn’t shift to pink at all and would rather turn blue right away. I’d prefer that, my unit is very close to it, so I’m not gonna play this game of exchanging/returning.

I think I got two decent ones. The one of the left is a bit cooler, while the one on the right is warmer. But for some reason, it looks better especially when reading text.

There is a slight variation in color for both when they get shifted around, but not too bad, just a bit of blueish.

Still deciding which one looks best.
