So the warmer type.

For me, I don't go purely on what looks best to me (I tend to side with cooler displays on instinct) but I strive for the most accurate display—even if it makes me second guess the calibration. But I'm not sure how to gauge accuracy with smartphone displays. Even then, I know there are people who much prefer bluer 9300K tint. I think warmer colors make more sense with iPhones, though.

Holy Crap...I think just found out how to solve the aggressive yellow tone on the iPhone X screen (with True Tone ON) !!!

No joke. Try this. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > turn True Tone ON.

Then go to Night Shift and slide the Colour Temperature slider all the way to the left (‘less warm’). The Night Shift setting btw is still OFF.

On my phone the screen immediately turned a normal colour...the way it is on my iPhone 8 Plus with True Tone ON. No extreme yellow tone anymore.

It looks like somehow the ‘colour temperature’ setting was activated even with Night Shift OFF!!!

Try it and let us know...

Happy Bunny!

Wow thank you

I was so close to swapping mine out today but decided to keep it after doing this

i finally got a chance to go back to the apple store to look at the iPhone X units on display. none of them had as bad pink edging as mine did. it’s hard to photograph, unfortunately, but the pink bleed wasn’t just in a corner like others have mentioned: mine has a subtle pink bleed that extends up to half a centimetre in, depending on screen contents, brightness, and lighting. the “q” on my keyboard in portrait always looks pink to me!

so i bit the bullet and bought another iPhone (just days before my return deadline on my first one). i did the “wake up at 6am, order for store pickup” thing i heard about—available that same day!

anyway, the two phones side by side are like night and day. my original has pink bleed and extremely warm/yellow display. new one seems more neutral to me and no pink edges! colour shift is different: not sure if worse or better, but different. regardless, that doesn’t bother me as much as being bordered by pink all the time.

so much variation. i thought these were individually calibrated at the factory?

anyway the original is going back tomorrow!

Yup. It's crazy how every individual phone is different when it comes to the panels.

That's the thing, the warmer one seems to look best at times. Even text seems easier to read on. Not sure honestly, they are both decent as far as quality and not many of the issues posted here.

of course, after all that, my nitpicky anxiety is starting to kick in. now i'm noticing that the new display definitely shifts pink when tipped away from me (the old pink-edged one shifted green). maybe i'm overly sensitive to red/pinks; the pink shift is giving me flashbacks to the head-on pink edges.

i really need to let go of the idea of a perfect screen. i still think the new one is better though... i wish i didn't notice things like this!

I had the exact same pink edges on my launch day phone. At first I tried my best to unsee/ignore it but in the end of the day I just could not enjoy my expensive phone so I went to my Apple Store. They immediately acknowledged the issue and swapped it for a new one in a retail box since I still was in the two weeks window. The new phone has a first class display. No pink borders, it’s bright, even, not blue or yellow (in my subjective view). So far so good! Sure I know I have my share of ocd but those pink edges weren’t nice.

I have very slight pink edges near the power/volume buttons which is only really apparent on white backgrounds with my glasses on. If I remove my glasses, I can’t really see it.

Anyone else? I don’t think it’s enough to exchange just yet.

It seems that your phone is better off than mine was. Mine had that pink hue framing the display.

I think so, mine is really not noticeable really and without my glasses on (which have a computer filter) I can’t see it. Glad you had yours replaced.

There can definitely be variances in the iphone x displays, which frankly surprises me. From the tech side, certainly it can happen but I would have thought that apple would REALLY have had some extreme QA on the iphone x for at least the first batches. But, maybe they were just so short the displays (or cameras or something) that every display that wasn't clearly deficient made it into a phone.

My iphone x from launch day was clearly more yellow and muted than another one on display in the store. Same settings, same true tone, on or off, same brightness, side by side it was very clear.

In the end, I returned it. Might go with an 8+ instead but at a minimum I didn't really want that display all the time. It didn't make consuming even text content very satisfying. Also, for such a premium $$ phone, really it should be unquestionable from a quality standpoint.

Thoughts? My 7 on the left at full brightness, True Tone and auto brightness off in all pics.

First two pics are with color filters off, second two are with color filters on.
Any thoughts?

I’m really contemplating taking mine back to an Apple store this week, it was very yellow out of the box, the most yellow screen I think I’ve ever had, that’s with that stupid True Tone off. I really wish Apple would have some proper colour controls on iOS, it doesn’t have to be as in depth as a TV but give us the RGB or equivalent controls at least as the Colour Filters option just doesn’t cut it, it cuts some of the brightness and just doesn’t look quite right. I keep going into the filter and fiddling with it instead of enjoying the phone.:(

If white doesn’t look white then it isn’t accurate and looks bad, simple as.

Excited today to pick up a Verizon X so I can swap out my AT&T. The Verizon one gets better signal in my phone, even though it's not a scientific test.

But, opened the box and it was still very different from my AT&T screen. I uploaded a new video to show the differences. At this point, I'm inclined to keep the one on the left (AT&T). Full brightness and True Tone on for both.

But the one on the left looks more pink to me.
I had the same dilemma when I picked up 2 X’s, one for me and the other one for my friend. I kept the first one, because it looked more natural, less red/pink, maybe a little warmer, but I like that look much better than the red/pink hue.

I think another good place to do comparisons is the keyboard. Also webpages with a white background and see which "white" you prefer.

I don't even know anymore. Doesn't seem pink in real life, but maybe just got used to it. It is def a bit brighter than the warmer one.

I need to find or make an iPhone X wallpaper in white, that would be easiest.

And no, still don't know which one to keep. The other warmer one was an AT&T, but I just got a Verizon which is appealing due to the better signal in my home. But it def looks warmer
[doublepost=1510963799][/doublepost]Final photoshoot and I'm done with the phones :)

You can see multiple angles of two decent screens.

Yes, it was the same story: I gave my friend the one that looked more pinkish and that phone was a bit brighter. However, you don’t really notice that unless they are side by side, but you do notice the pink hue when the brightness is not all the way up. The main reason I went with the warmer phone is that it looked more uniform. When the screen was dim, it didn’t look too pink like the other one. You should think about the real conditions. You don’t stare at both phones side by side all the time. Choose the one that is more uniform in terms of brightness/hue.

If any of you guys have an x-rite colorimeter there’s actually an app that works with your computer and calibrates the iPhone / iPad. The app is called ColorTRUE I just downloaded it but haven’t tried it yet. I have a ColorMunki Display colorimeter and can’t wait to try this. Anyone tried this app?

All these photos don’t mean anything. There are so many variables. I picked up another X today. It’s a bit warmer than some display models, and other display models look like crap / pink tinted compared to mine. Mine is also brighter. My screen is uniform and shifts slightly blue and not pink at an angle, which I prefer. I’m going to properly calibrate mine using my colorimeter which I know will be perfect, assuming the app works, and end this insanity LOL.

As you can see from the photos, they are SOO CLOSE. Both are decent, so at least it's not as bad as I've seen on here.
