Excited today to pick up a Verizon X so I can swap out my AT&T. The Verizon one gets better signal in my phone, even though it's not a scientific test.

But, opened the box and it was still very different from my AT&T screen. I uploaded a new video to show the differences. At this point, I'm inclined to keep the one on the left (AT&T). Full brightness and True Tone on for both.

Did u end up going w att or Verizon one?

Screen more important to u than model modem differences?

How about three iPhone Xes, posing for a family picture, all with different color temps. Snapped today in my office.
From L-R: 64GB SG T-Mo; 256GB Silver Tmo; 64GB SG TMo

The first two are mine, of course, because I have bad luck with ANY type of panel lottery. The third is a friends who 'doesn't understand what the fuss is about' and of course, the one with the best screen among the three lol FML.

I had a sample of three, and incredibly different results too. two were similar but one had enough quirks with viewing angles and stuff it was inferior.

but ultimately all three looked different. those look drastically different

Does TMo being the Intel GSM model only bother you at all? or more the screen?

Did you get 64 and 256 cause undecided on storage? :p

Apple totally bullied me into getting the 256 because, of course, they eliminated the 128GB "goldilocks" option that the 7+ had, and one that worked perfectly for me. However, after doing some fall cleaning in iMessage over the weekend, I freed up a ton of space, which justified the 64GB size and will be my daily going forward. And of course I have to pay for it by having a screen color temp reminiscent of a Galaxy S2. That'll get swapped tomorrow and another roll of the dice at the lottery.

Ironic that my Note 8 has the most uniform display of any phone I've ever owned. I wish Apple would port iMessage to Android. Maybe for Christmas. 2024.

Gotcha

and do you care about it being Intel GSM only radio for the TMo version? or indifferent?

BTW the Intel GSM thing doesn't bother me at all - the phones are all lightning fast. It's the screen we're paying for here, and it better be as close to perfect as possible for consumer-grade stuff. Blue and pink do not equal white. :)

True

well good luck w your endeavors,

I think you just solidified the fleeting thought to try my hand possibly for a qualcomm

but I have no plans to go Verizon, my 7+ is intel, and my screen is ace -- the thing I'm looking at literally every time I'm using my phone haha

I'm in LA so T-Mobile is solid. In my experience Verizon is crap with topography and we have hills and mountains here. AT&T's network is way too overburdened, and when next year's phones are finally compatible with some of the new spectrum rollouts, I'll probably see what's going on with their speed/stability/capacity.

Just phoned Apple and they will replace it even after 14 days :O I hope the screen will be better this time, but estimated delivery is in 2 to 3 weeks :/

Have not decided yet. Doing one more photoshoot this week :) Then I'll let go my OCD. I do like the idea of a better signal, but as long as the screens are pretty close in quality. The colder one does have a bit more pink tint to it, but overall seems brighter than the warmer one.

My friend ... we all are iSheeps. Sad but true :) I already returned my stupid Iphone X. I’m a member of your FB group but sadly nobody cares anymore .Not my problem if the majority of X owners are really stupid and accepting low end products for 1000 dollars(1000 euros in Europe). Pace ✌️

Its €1159 for the 64GB model in EU, not €1000!
That’s $1366 USD!

Everyone is different, but the one to the left is the one I would pick. I cannot deal with any kind of green tint on any of the displays I own. I prefer a display to lean towards a slight pink/blue hue than green/yellow (which is very common in a lot of Apple displays, from iMacs, to MacBooks to iPhones). I tweak all my displays to lower the green... I even reduced some of the green on both my Samsung 4k TVs. I think my eyes are just overly sensitive to it and I perceive that kind of calibration as being dingy.

My iPhone X arrives today, and now I am paranoid about how the display will look. For some odd reason, I thought that with OLED (and the fact that there is only one manufacturer), the iPhone Display Lottery was a thing of the past. I guess not!

My display is really green, not yellow.

I tried to photograph it next to 5 other apple devices with perfect displays and almost identical hues and colour temperatures. The weird thing is that with multiple cameras the colours were inverted! ie, the X display was white and the nice displays were green. So weird!

Anyway, I can't get used to it. If I spend a while away from other devices I begin to get used to it, then if I use my mac for a bit and go back to the X it's just disgusting.

I've wangled an express replacement. Fingers crossed!

New phone arrived at 9am following a live chat at 4pm yesterday, which is just amazing service.

I am now that annoying guy that got a good one which hardly shifts at all off axis and has no green tint. It's still yellower than my other apple displays but it pushes red rather than green which gives a much better white and the greys and whites in settings for example have that high contrast 3D look about them.

The difference is not subtle, it's immediately obvious and gives a sense of depth with all elements sharper, especially text.

My advice is not to settle. Get it swapped!

Another point of interest, and this rings true for the good ones I saw in store too. The good displays look crap and green off axis but take a long time to shift to that. The bad displays looks amazing off axis but shift there instantly, which is really distracting.

Glad you got a good one - how did you get a next day replacement? Is it a new retail box or w white box Apple care version?

Apple direct and are you based in the UK?

What did you do with your original one?

Thanks

It's a white box apple care. They're not refurbished, they're service units. New phones without the accessories. I know some folks are a bit apprehensive about them but if they're flawless, who really cares?

Apple direct in the UK. Swapped via Apple Care + Express replacement service. I tried to get support for the yellow/green display before I bought apple care + and it was non-existent. Night and day after buying apple care. Straight swap in less then 24hrs.

New one is still with me so you can do a direct comparison. They provide shipping materials to send it back within 10 days.

If you want to play the lottery, I'd suggest applecare +

I think this one does have the pink shift, but seriously, if you've had a green display that shifts to blue 5 degrees off axis, the pink shift is far better!

How much colour shift is there on one of the really good screens?

And what are the chances of getting one of those screens

Thanks Alfie, appreciate your response, I haven’t got Apple care so went down the online retail replacement route. Have been waiting for 2.5 weeks and still on order processing. I got my yellow X on launch and got a replacement approved on the 5th November. It’s taken too long!

So without Apple care + they didn’t entertain your yellow screen swap out? What was there reasoning and concluding point when you tried that?

Alfieg, could you post pics please

Hi. I could but there is no point. Both my iPhone 7, 5S and iPad actually invert the colours so the bad one looks good and the good one looks bad. It's also not really an accurate measure anyway. You're better off swapping your phone out if you're on the fence.

They said I would need to go to the genius bar or return for a replacement.

Frankly 16hrs from live chat to new device in hand has blown my mind! Amazing service.

This new one doesn't shift to blue at any point. It gradually drifts to green but not noticeably until 45 degrees or more. My other phone was shimmering between yellow and bright blue in normal use.

So I had a super yellow screen on launch. Picked up another at the store a week after. Screen looked a lot less yellow and actually thought I could live with it. It has a slight pink hue on the right side near the edge that actually started to drive me nuts. Guess its back to the lotto.

I know most people won't notice, some people have good ones and think we are crazy, then there are the ones that have a blanket statement that all OLED screens do this and that. I refuse to be any of those. I mean I understand slight color shift, but come on with the overall color temp of whites and uniformity issues. Call me crazy I guess.

In india 64 GB goes for USD-1350 out right no plans. The demand is mental.
[doublepost=1511315541][/doublepost]Quick question my screen is perfect if true tone off no blues nothing pure white.

With true tone on its little yellow in certain light conditions, this is ok?
