I can't believe they'll get away with it.

Many android users get on my nerves by telling us Apple users are blinded, but I may finally see the light today.

I can't believe that they'll get away with selling "flagship" screens that have major variances, together with a so called "true tone" that implies a strict respect of colors... That you can move from yellow to blue by just tilting it slightly.

This is utter bs.

The PR stunt "blue is normal" after you've already pre ordered was also a nice touch, preventing us legitimate users that have "the worse of them all" blue shifted screens to get a replacement.

I know some screens are OK, i've seen them in apple store. And in internet reviews. How convenient. But it's not always what they ship. I'm still fighting with apple to get METRICS about what's normal and what's not for this yellowing/blue shifting, and then a quality program to replace the worst displays, but as people seem to "keep it anyway" i'm not sure I'm gonna win this war.

As others have pointed out, taking photos is pretty pointless as there are too many variables, especially when comparing between different users’ phones (undefined white balances, different cameras with different sensors, possibly different picture profiles etc.)

The ColorTrue app will also not fix any issues, as it’s just a sandbox environment to view your photos in a colour accurate app. It cannot change the calibration of your device’s screen for the entire operating system, it will just adjust the colours to be accurate within the ColorTrue app.

The only way Apple could be helpful is adding more advanced colour management features in iOS, such as the ability to add ICC profiles.

If you feel concerned, join my group :) But it's not looking good , everyone seems to move on.

I am not really bothered by blue color when moving the phone. What bugs me the most is that yellow color

Agreed. The blue shifting is unfortunately part of early OLED tech on small high resolution screens. The screen of my friend’s Samsung S8 has the exact same issue.

App is a piece of garbage anyway and wouldn’t recognize my computer. As long as I had my colorimeter out I re-calibrated my monitor since it has been a year and needed adjustment apparently, per the readings I got. My X while warm to naked eye is so close to my monitor at 6500K, but who knows how accurate the colorimeter really is or if the monitor can accurately show true white. Around and around I go.

My 1st conclusion: I am nuts. I tried the LG V30 and Pixel 2 and couldn’t care less about white level on those. Fire up an iPhone X, oh damn, better check for yellow tint and white level in store vs display models!!! It makes no sense. No idea why the X brings out this obsession and other phones never have. I am crazy is the only rational thought I’ve come up with.

I will trust my monitor and colorimeter compared to my iPhone X vs. the ‘perfect’ models at the store, which are not accurate just pretty to look at at full brightness based on my findings. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s what I’m going with.

2nd conclusion: MR is to blame for all of my iPhone obsessing. I never would’ve known about so many little issues had I not looked for them over the years. I don’t want to get banned from Apple if I exchange this one (this is 3rd one I’ve bought, returned 1st 2, didn’t exchange) and this issue is just not healthy for me to obsess over. Borderline irrational. I will try and not browse MR...who knows how long I’ll hold out...ignorance is bliss. Good luck guys and hopefully we can all just enjoy these phones and get on with life.

**Edit- snapped a photo of my setup with my colorimeter active and DisplayCAL software measuring white point set to 6500K. Monitor brightness is 135 cd/m2 and iPhone X brightness is set to about 40-45% with TT off. The phone and monitor are nearly identical in real life. So fear not guys / girls. If you're noticing your X is a little warmer than you're used to, chances are it is accurate. As others have been saying here all along.

My friend ... we all are iSheeps. Sad but true :) I already returned my stupid Iphone X. I’m a member of your FB group but sadly nobody cares anymore .Not my problem if the majority of X owners are really stupid and accepting low end products for 1000 dollars(1000 euros in Europe). Pace ✌️

Yours is a lot less yellow than mine then, can’t really show it in a photo though, doesn’t look the same as in person.

I was a launch day buyer, but I have been playing the iphone X lottery for the last 2 weeks in search of the perfect screen...I have probably either returned or exchanged 4 iphone Xs by now, BEFORE finally picking up a winner from an Apple store that was an hr away from me yesterday. It made me happy to have that nice crisp, blue screen without any yellow tinge!

Lo and behold, I had initially been buying the 64gb model and after finally finding one with the perfect screen. I had buyer's remorse and decided I should have probably gotten the 256gb, and then bought and picked up another one this evening - and of course, yellow screen.

I think I am gonna just keep the crisp, blue 64gb model since I had finally found the perfect screen which makes me happy. All the yellow ones bug me no matter how much I try not to think about it, and we should not have to settle at a $1000+ price point. I have already wasted so much time on this crap, that I don't think I can repeat it all to find the "perfect" 256gb model now.

Its sad that we even have to do this and there is not more uniformity in production. Best of luck to all.

I just gave up after one X. Got an 8 Plus. I don't have time for that. I'll wait until Apple can send out consistently good screens. It sucks, cause I really liked the phone.

Glad you found a great phone.

Happy to hear that some perfect unit exists in the wild :)
So, you bought the 1one and then returned for other 2 times until you step into the 4th, perfect one?

I have some other days left for returning, don't know how many times i can play this game.

I don’t know if someone has already done this but could the people here go to a site like this http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html

And put in their serial number to find out when and where their X was created, maybe there’s a pattern, who knows.

Mine was made week 44, November at site G6.
Mine was made week 42, october at site DN.
Screen is little bit yellow, but I wonder if it could be because I am using screen protector, I am not sure if it was yellow before :D But i dont wanna pull it down as it was expensive :D

There are definitely some units that have visibly better screens. I don't how to explain it, but when you see one with the crisp, blue screen it will jump out at you...and this might be subjective, but it actually looks sharper and brighter (I noticed it most with text were my previous yellow tinged screens would make text look ever so slightly blurred). I am a doctor (Radiologist) by profession, so I admit my eyes are probably hypersensitive to picking up these nuances haha :), but I do think it is real - I had looked at dozens of iPhone Xs both inside the apple store and in other lighting settings before realizing that the variation in panels is a real deal.

Just a word of warning, if you have a phone replaced/exchanged then you can no longer return the phone. I didn't want to potentially be stuck so instead of replacing the yellow Xs, I would return them fully and then wait until there was in-store stock for new purchase. I was worried I wouldn't be able to buy another X for a while, but the supply has definitely increased (may vary by country), and if you are diligent and check at the right times, you can probably pick up another one the next day. I have no idea if Apple has a limit on how many returns you can do before they tell you enough is enough.

I am definitely happy with the phone I finally found. The OLED screen (when it is not yellow), truly is a thing of beauty. And otherwise the phone was always good besides this and a few other issues (tinny speaker on high volumes). I kinda regret not getting the 256gb but cant go through this whole panel lottery again to try and find a 256gb now with the perfect screen - guess will just have to rely heavily on cloud services. Best of luck!

Am I crazy or the screen look dull and yellow-ish? Or gray-ish? :D I think it looks worse in person. What do you think, should I call Apple or just leave it as it is? But have to admit that when I was looking on other iPhone X - they seemed to have whiter screen and sharper text... Or do I have the better looking screen? :D Thank you

I replaced the one with too much blue tint and yellow and new one has no blue tint and screen looks like 8+ and happy with it. Though the top speaker makes crackling noise in high volume. I hope this can be fixed by software. Otherwise i have to replace it again

Did they replace it without hesitation? And how long did you have the old phone? I missed the 14 days period for replacement without any reason (EU legislation) :/

i completly agree with you, i have the same "sensibility" to the screen variation, so, yes, you definitly understand when you find the good one.

Thanks for the warning, i'm aware of, i have few days more to return mine that actualyy is not bad but far for a solid / crispy white. I've ordered a new one, coming in a week, and if i can, i'll try to pick up a third checking the store availability.

Yes, i definitly started playing the lottery game.

Is your unit silver o space g? I ask you this because in the visit i did a week ago in an AS i noticed the the silver one have the worst display compared to the SG, but probably it's just randomness, who knows.

Finger crossed for the incoming hunt!

Thanks for this. I was just going to make do with a yellow tinged (TT off) screen but after reading you found something better I will return the iPhone X and maybe try another to find something acceptable. Like you, I found text slightly blurry like reading through this thread and couldn't understand why some reviews were so positive about the screen it just doesnt look any better than my iPhone 7 a lot of the time.

I must be OCD or over sensitive when it comes to the display as I went through a similar thing with the iPhone 7 last year, it's just so much messing about and disappointment until you find something good.

Attaching a picture taken with my iPad of iPhone 6, 7 and X in that order. The X is more yellow in real life not pink as it comes out but you get the dull tinge and comparison to the LCDs from this photo I think.

My 64 GB silver is the same - week 44, Nov, Site G6. I'm happy with my screen. It's bright and white with no yellow (True Tone and Auto brightness off). Slight pink or blue shift when tilted. I have a very faint, thin pink line going down the right side that I can't see most of the time. I have a slight pink to blue shift on my 2016 rMBP. I returned 2 before settling on this computer and hardly even notice it anymore. I would return anything with a yellow screen however.

I saw my uber driver's S8 Plus off axis (from the side, sitting in front seat) for a little bit, and that thing was DINGY YELLOW AF

I've seen three iPhone X samples, and easily have the best one. the other two weren't even close imo

This is a numbers game for apple. Most people won't see it notice or care.

But those that do, it'll drive ya bonkers

and OLED is more of a lottery than LED, I'm afraid.

i finally got a chance to go back to the apple store to look at the iPhone X units on display. none of them had as bad pink edging as mine did. it’s hard to photograph, unfortunately, but the pink bleed wasn’t just in a corner like others have mentioned: mine has a subtle pink bleed that extends up to half a centimetre in, depending on screen contents, brightness, and lighting. the “q” on my keyboard in portrait always looks pink to me!

so i bit the bullet and bought another iPhone (just days before my return deadline on my first one). i did the “wake up at 6am, order for store pickup” thing i heard about—available that same day!

anyway, the two phones side by side are like night and day. my original has pink bleed and extremely warm/yellow display. new one seems more neutral to me and no pink edges! colour shift is different: not sure if worse or better, but different. regardless, that doesn’t bother me as much as being bordered by pink all the time.

so much variation. i thought these were individually calibrated at the factory?

anyway the original is going back tomorrow!

of course, after all that, my nitpicky anxiety is starting to kick in. now i'm noticing that the new display definitely shifts pink when tipped away from me (the old pink-edged one shifted green). maybe i'm overly sensitive to red/pinks; the pink shift is giving me flashbacks to the head-on pink edges.

i really need to let go of the idea of a perfect screen. i still think the new one is better though... i wish i didn't notice things like this!

i almost can't believe it but the newer screen actually does have slight pink fringing on the left, right, and top edges when viewed head-on (not nearly as bad as my first X), but not always visible-- seems to be worse with truetone on, and more so when tilted, even slightly. it seems most people complain about blue shifts, but i seem to get the pinks. maybe it's an eye thing? or just the lottery…

fwiw: original bad iPhone X was week 43, factory G6. current iPhone X: week 45, factory DN

i'm going to give myself at least a week to see if i get used to it before thinking about replacing again... it's really not that bad, unless it's at an angle. like on a desk :/
