This thread: When I tilt my phone and shake it while hanging upside down with one eye closed, I can barely see a pink hue on the left side. It's going back and this will be the seventh phone I returned.
Glad you got a good one. These issues can be really bad on certain phones. I had a diagonal black line that went from top left to bottom right that was visible on all gray backgrounds during normal use on apps like Amazon music. Apple tech saw it right away and I got it replaced. My current one is HORRIBLE. There is a bad pink shift on half the screen that gets even worse at the side edges of the screen. Happens on -slight- angling of the phone just by using it normally with one hand. I have tons of apps with white backgrounds and it is quite bad.

I should have just returned my last one and re-ordered, now I am stuck in the exchange process. If I can't get this one exchanged I will just sell it and move on to another phone. I'm in the vast minority but I hate OLED. As much as I hated plasma before it but for different reasons. Several family members have various LG OLED TVs and I've used several OLED phones. I'd take bright whites of LCD / LED any day over pitch black blacks (I don't sit in a cave all day with my phone or TV) not to mention awful banding with OLED. Can't wait for OLED to be replaced by micro-LED, but who knows how that will go.

Mine looks the same way. I compared it to my friends and the display model at best buy and mine actually looks better in comparison. The Pixel 2 looked awful so I'm grateful its not like that. but it is still somewhat distracting when using apps with a white background. I'm on the fence about exchanging though since it is such a gamble. Maybe I'll get use to it after a few days. I sorta wish they stuck with LCD in the first X body style and saved OLED for next year when perhaps it would be more reliable.

I don't think this is gonna be magically resolved by next year

Especially since 80% of people probably don't see ANYTHING wrong with ANY unit

You're probably right but I hope OLED tech improves or Apple makes significant progress with micro-LED. But because I'm neurotic about it, I've asked many of my coworkers what they think about my display and most see the slight unevenness looking straight on but all say its tolerable. So I'll learn to love it, I guess.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, they do seem like genuine issues.

I was thinking about several posts here where they show pictures of three different phones and they all look ok, and they are debating which to return or keep because one has a slightly yellow screen or something.

Sorry.

yeah after all the reading on this, i think i'll probably just hang on to my current (second) unit. the pink bands can be a little distracting on white backgrounds when my iphone is sitting on the desk (at that tilted-back angle), but most of the time it's not noticeable. i'm sure there are better ones out there, but just doing one swap was annoying enough...

wish i could unsee or just not care :p

after my limited experience with OLED on the iPhone X, i'm inclined to agree :/

After visit different stores, I found out that best displays are usually in devices with SN pattern F17V****JCCL. Closest to 6500K calibration. Mine has green-yellow tint compare to them.

I was able to reserve one early this morning at an Apple store close by for a replacement. It had this serial combination, and it was clearly the best of 4 (the one I was returning plus 2 display models). The whites look white, and the color shift at angles is barely noticeable. It dims a tad vs turning blue. And it was the brightest of the displays. The store employee agreed. He was actually shocked by the variance in displays.

The phone I just exchanged had serial F17, it doesn’t matter and is a complete lottery. The tech saw the pink screen shift at slight angle + even pinker edges and showed someone else who also confirmed it was definitely not normal. They actually encouraged me to keep exchanging if it happened again! I was expecting to be treated as if I had 2 heads and too nit picky, but both Genius Bar appointments went really well and the guys were super cool and accommodating.

My new one is serial DNP and has the normal slight blue shift, is uniform, and looked better and brighter than 3 store models I compared it to as well. No pixel defects or bad banding on dark screens when tested at home. So a happy ending finally for me. Happy hunting!

Third iPhone X arrived this morning. Serial starts FK. Worst pink screen yet.

I give up.
I feel your pain, mine was probably the same as yours. Sorry. The bad pink ones are really bad and if you haven’t gotten stuck with one you have no idea. Good luck if you go for another one.

My first with serial DNPsomething had pink edges and went through pink to blue when tilting so I assume the serial numbers have nothing to do with anything.

I think I have got a good screen saw some units. My serial start with DNP no pinks nothing, only slight blue if you tilt the phone.

Is that normal?

The pink issue is what I am struggling with. Slight variance in angle causes it to go bright pink and then into Blue. There is no way to look at the screen head on without part of it bringing pink.

I’ve got a Genius Bar appointment Thursday to get a replacement (hopefully). This will be my third X, both have been retail box so far.

I’ve got ever so slight pink edges on the left and right in the upper sides.

Screen is uniform and bright - do I exchange. How bad are people’s screens?

*sigh* Hey guys, having the same problem with my new iPhone X.
It doesn't matter if True Tone is activated or not, it also happens on all brightness settings.
I tried to record it:
giphy.gif

Is it the same amount of "bad" that you're experiencing, or is it worse on my phone??

Thanks folks

Thanks for the quick response, guys. That's disappointing to hear.
Since that's a big deal for me, I'll return it as long as I can.

I’ve gone through 4 iPhone Xs now all space grey. This has got to be the worst display of any iPhone IMO and I’ve been an Apple user since the first iPhone

1. No consistency between top bottom left and right. All the phones have lighter grey bars on the left to darker on the right. Very obvious in settings

2. All the screens are darker on top and brighter on the bottom. Again obvious in the settings menu.

3. All the whiter screens I’ve seen come across as reddy in sunlight.

4. All the yellower screens I’ve come across greenish in minimum brightness

Every screen including yours looks good in an Apple store at full brightness and very different once u leave

I don’t care about blue shifts or whatnot just give me a damn balanced (up down left right) display.

My 3rd iPhone X despite the above flaws had an overall good colour temp. Turn it around and right smack bang in the center of the camera, a piece of large fibre. They couldn’t believe it in the store and replaced it straight away. Just my luck.

4th one I’m on now looks ok but the contrast is set way to high especially with reds.

I don’t know any more

Why return it if it’s normal?

I actually like the blue shift. Looks nice.

Because to me, the color shift on the iPhone X is much more noticeable (and imho worse) than the brightness-shift (or maybe red-shift?) that you get on older LCD screens like on my old iPhone 5S or the quite current iPhone 8 Plus.

(Please ignore my reponse if your intention was just to troll me, I apparently didn't get the joke quick enough )

I’m being serious. I like my blue shift especially when it’s on my desk. It’s looks halo like. It is normal however. My S8 does the same.

Okay I understand, thanks for the explanation.

So yeah, for OLED screens, this behaviour might be normal, which doesn't mean that it's also good. I wish that Apple would have chosen another technology for the screen. But then -I guess- there were no alternatives (at that time) to achieve that thinness of the device without sacrificing something else, like battery capacity or a the improved speaker system, etc.

Agreed but this is potentially a reason for them investing in Micro LED screens.
