They’ve issued you a refund not a replacement.

That is weird, as I asked for replacement and they even sent an email with confirmation. Will call them on Monday I guess :/

They’ve issued you a refund not a replacement.

And I even received email sayingnthat my iPhone will be sent in one week time. That is why I am so confused

Back with more comparison photos for those that asked me a few days ago

Again, tough to capture perfectly with the DSLR, but I did a video which might help a bit more. In the end, I narrowed to the two shown separately in the photos.

My observation of what I would categorize as bad displays:

You can see the red color shift run up the whole phone and down when you tilt it vertically up and down a little

The good ones uniformly shift color across the whole panel, and aren’t AS sensitive to off axis angles

I think it has something to do with the polarizer, but could be the display themselves too.

Either way ive seen quite a few that look like this by now, and hate it!

Just got an X (64GB Silver) and noticed right away my screen looked a little off. Blue shift isn't that bad, but I compared it side by side with some display models (full brightness, true tone off) and whites on my screen have a pinkish/yellowish, dingy look versus a more clean, true white. As you lower the brightness, the dirtyness of the X also becomes more apparent. Not something I'm willing to accept on a $1000 phone. Unfortunately, all the Best Buy's in my area are out for 2+ weeks now, so its looks like I'm just going to have to return it and wait.

Edit: here are some comparison pictures between an X, Pixel, and 8 Plus. The Pixel is also a Samsung OLED panel but the whites are much cleaner. And I was actually surprised how close the Pixel whites were to the LCD of the 8 Plus.

There have been worse X screens posted in this thread, but as I mentioned above, I'm not settling when the device costs this much.

Is there a difference when auto brightness is off?

I have a nice white screen, but i like using color profiles. When I enable it, it creates a pink tint around the borders only. Its odd, turning off color profiles no pink tint at all.

Oh well. The screen lottery is EXTREMELY stressful. Cant deal with it ever again after the iPhone 4, 6, and 7

I am lucky that mine is very good screen. Ive seen multiple x and all terrible. Good luck lottery guys. If mine was terrible i would skip x and keep 8+.

What’s the best way to check for a defective screen?

My screen is uniform but has very slight pink edges left and right with my glasses on in certain lights.

I compared it to a display mode which didn’t have the pink edges.

Screen seems bright and I’m contemplating an exchange. I have no other problems.

I think I’d be quite happy to have a uniform tint across the entire screen, but having a screen that looks great but has a pink border around the entire screen is very annoying. I’m currently going through an exchange for this and a few other other issues.

I’ve had two x so far, first had faulty WiFi . This one seems to be a bit brighter at the bottom. And quite dim overall. I went to the shops today to check a few phones out. There is such a huge variation between the phones I saw. Saw 5 today at different stores. 3 were bad compared to mine. Pink tints , the final one I saw ( wish I hadn’t ha ) was perfect . Crisp whites very very bright . Mine isn’t bad by any means but it’s shocking how different the all are.

Saw some iPhone 8 Plus too looking pinkish and uneven compared to my old 6splus.

Interestingly I looked at some Samsung s8 notes and plus types. They had same issues. The plus had very pink edges. Another s8 plus was much better but over saturated and dark. I think this just goes to show the level of variations in every phone Screen. It’s a shame considering how much you pay. The screen lottery is a game I can’t wait to stop playing.

I might end up holding onto my X for a long time for this reason

I shattered my 7+ screen and paid out of pocket for a screen replacement and the replacement is more beautiful than my original panel was. Which was already pretty good

Was worried about getting a junk one and not being able to do anything about it except sell it to someone that doesn’t care or notice these sorts of things

And kept jailbreak weeee

All my iDevices and mac are good to go

I have a white screen. Perfect uniform which is a big deal for me. Same with the grey. No weird patches.

But I use color profiles and have the pink tint on borders with color profiles. Goes away when I turn it off. Sucks. But gotta get used to it lol

Colour profiles seemed to reduce the brightness a lot for me on my first phone. Not neeeded to use it on my second. This is an example of how different they are. The first even without True Tone on was so yellow it was horrific. The second one is fine without True Tone on. Still has a warm screen but ok.

I had my first iPhone X replaced due to a white line down the right hand side however my replacement has a nice pint colour shift when tilted up and down. Seems to be a lot more noticeable at low brightness settings.

Am tempted to get it exchanged but then I went to the Apple store today and several had the same issue... plus they had no stock for exchanges today...

Anyone else have a pink colour shift?

This thread: When I tilt my phone and shake it while hanging upside down with one eye closed, I can barely see a pink hue on the left side. It's going back and this will be the seventh phone I returned.

Yep, totally. It's so endemic that I wouldn't even think about exchanging for it.

Went to the apple store today and half the displays had it. Too high imo. Guess its OLED related. I dunno

I was at the Apple store yesterday for another issue non X related and decided to check out my X to compare to the display models. Of course the display model I looked at was perfect. I thought I had just a light blue shift when looking from the sides. The display had none and was a tad brighter. So I put one on reserve today to swap out. For a $1250 phone, there shouldn't be any issues. If the new one is just as bad or worse, I'll go back to my 6s Plus for another year.

After visit different stores, I found out that best displays are usually in devices with SN pattern F17V****JCCL. Closest to 6500K calibration. Mine has green-yellow tint compare to them.

Mine looks the same way. I compared it to my friends and the display model at best buy and mine actually looks better in comparison. The Pixel 2 looked awful so I'm grateful its not like that. but it is still somewhat distracting when using apps with a white background. I'm on the fence about exchanging though since it is such a gamble. Maybe I'll get use to it after a few days. I sorta wish they stuck with LCD in the first X body style and saved OLED for next year when perhaps it would be more reliable.
