Don't feed the trolls!!!! Obviously OP is Android fans. Look at all the phones he likes, why would iPhone be on his top ten list? This thread is ridiculous. Somebody just wants to stir another iPhone vs. Android thread.

I appreciate it was just your opinion, in fact I wrote that twice. We all have different opinions and to me the iPhone is better than your examples, in my opinion. I feel it's a great phone and a vast improvement on its predecessor. But accept not everybody is going to share that view. If I didn't think it was the best smartphone out there, I wouldn't have bought it and I hope you feel the same about the choice you made. :)

Out of curiosity, in order to place the iPhone in the top 10, what phone would you remove from that list?

----------

side note:

I don't think the marketing on any phone converts. If you are in the price bracket of the flagships you've really already picked your side and bought in the the the respective ecosystem. If I have hundreds of dollars in iOS/Android apps I'm not going to switch because of some new wizbang feature that the opposite platform introduced. In the end there are no "sheep" there are people vested in the ecosystem this is the big reason I hesitate to buy a bunch of stuff for my phone I've been on BB/Android x2/iPhone my next phone will probably not run the OS my current one does that means I'm not a prize for any team.

I agree to a point. I think investment in ecosystem leads to "loyalty", which in turn leads to further investment in said ecosystem. With that said, I think that only goes buy so far. I know of a few people who were heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem, and because of that, were in no hurry to switch over to Android. However, they became fed up with the iPhone 5 announcement, and decided it was finally worth giving up that investment. I say that to say, though investment plays a role, it has it's limits on keeping a person entrenched in that ecosystem.

So because his top ten list doesn't include the iPhone that automatically means he's he's a: a troll and b: an android fan? It never occurs to you that iOS doesn't work for him.

I haven't got a clue what half those phones are so I really couldn't tell you. I said a few pages back that I couldn't name 10 smart phones but would list the popular flagship devices sold here including the iPhone. The OS comes before spec for me so it's easy to make a very short list lol. :)

If this was the case the thread title should have been label just his top 10 smartphones? Why emphasize iPhone isn't in top ten list?

Exactly. Had he simply said "these are the top 10 phones I feel are on the market right now", then it would have been a simple opinion thread.
Had I started a thread titled "Here are the top 3 mobile OS' out right now and Android isn't even in the top 3.", what do you think the reaction would have been?

The OP stated his opinion..... But because in his opinion the iPhone didn't make the top ten you and a few others have blown a gasket! He even said where he would rate them. Again stating his opinion....yet you can't seem to handle that! He added the iphone because he was asked to! What is hard for you to grasp about that?

A friend of mine asked me where I thought the iPhone ranked in today's smartphone market. After doing a quick run down of phones I know to be better, I realized the iPhone isn't even a top 10 smartphone at this point. In no particular order, here is a list of my top 10.

1. Note 4
2. Note 4 Edge
3. Nexus 6
4. LG G3
5. Galaxy S5
6. Moto X (2014)
7. One Plus One
8. Xperia Z3
9. Xperia Z3 Compact
10. HTC One M8 / Droid Turbo

Note: I would probably put the iPhone 6 Plus at spot number 12, and the iPhone 6 a few spots behind that (around 14 or 15).

How exactly is the S5 @ the #5 spot when 3 Samsung executives lost or almost lost their jobs due to poor sales of that phone? Give me a break. You can get that phone for .01 or FREE with most carriers and it's Samsung's "next best thing" thus far (excluding the note series which are phablets).

I've had:

iPhone 4S (had quite a few of them)
Battery died
Home button died
Power button died
Wifi chip died
Volume button died
Microphone died
Speaker died

iPhone 5
Screen glitches and had to be replaced

iPhone 5C
Freezing after 8.x installed

iPad 2
Mark on the inside of the screen and had to be replaced

iPad mini
Total joke in performance after installing 8 and now keeping it on 7.1.2 for now

Find it strange you would own both a iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C. Makes zero sense.

I own a LG G3 as a disclaimer. I also own an iPhone 6 plus. I love all smart phones.

The iPhone 6/6 plus may not be the top choice for everyone. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But the Op is smoking crack by saying iPhone 6/6plus isn't in top 10.

Just google top smartphones of 2014. Almost all big websites rank the iPhone 6/6plus in the top 5. Many in the top 1-3 slot.

Fair top list

OP is partially right, there a ton of Galaxy product in this top
But the first one is a true killer

What is notebookcheck.net and how does one determine that they're "fair"? What's the criteria for that? The WSJ says iPhone 6 is the best overall smartphone. The OP says it's not in the top 10. Obviously there is no objective way to determine what the best is. Any list is going to be subjective.

Yes...... Why did you leave out the post was in the Alternative section? Did you do that on purpose?
If the post had been in the IPHONE section you might be right. But it wasn't......

They are not known for being neither Apple fans nor Android fans at all
Not everyone agrees with this list including me but it sounds fair enough

Its not.
When the first iPhone came out, there was barely nothing as credible alternative
When iPhone 4/4S came out, Galaxy S2 was the only one really good alternative although in my opinion it was far from away from i4 qualities overall
When iPhone 5/5S, concurrence brought on table, many serious alternatives like Galaxy S, Note, LG G2, Xperia, HTC One, Nexus...
They are all very close but 5S still remains as the king
Now, iPhone 6 came out, it has nothing more than its rivals
They all have some benefit features
Note 4 has the best display overall...
Xperia has waterproof...
I didn't even mention battery life like twice better for all those Android devices.

It could have been posted on another site like Cnet or Androidauthority and that still wouldn't make it any less wrong. :p

My opinion: the iPhone 6 is not the best smartphone on the market. Saying it's not in the top 10, you either know nothing about technology or dislike Apple. Sort of difficult to have relevant discussions with people like that.

Simply cause times are changing. The iPhone is automatically secured in the top spot or even the top 10 spot nowadays. Of course it's all just a preference of opinion, but several years ago you couldn't make a legitimate list without including the iPhone. That's no so today.

Being that said, I think it was the OP's intention to show the contrast of yesterday vs today.

I googled "best smartphones" for giggles and here's what I found: the iPhone 6(+) was in the top ten for all of them.

That is their opinion. Just like the OP stated his opinion.
I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion. What is top ten you might not be so for me and vice versa.

Obviously it's subjective. For the first four websites to put it in top ten then OP go out of his way to mention it's not just shows he's trying to get a rise out of the users on here.

The HUGE factor is the OS.

If one doesn't like iOS or finds it too restrictive, then many top tier Android phones would make it in the first 10 before the iPhone.

Doesn't make anyone a fanboy. There are just much more Android phones today that can compete with the iPhone compared to the past.
